Ah, crap. Wrong retcon. I thought your face was post-Crisis on Infinite Earths. :(

I'd feel bad for derailing this thread so much if it were about a better character.

What if someone punched you in the kidney? I bet you'd feel bad then. In general, and about getting punched in the kidney.

His comics suck straight across the board now. I'm so glad Bedard is taking over Outsiders. Now I can read it again.

true. he's had enough time on both books to prove he's not the right man for the job. with all the hype they're giving green arrow lately, with the marriage to black canary, you'd think dc would take the opportunity to put together a really great creative team to try and bump up sales even more. i wouldn't mind bedard on that book, too. hell, use the same creative team from the black canary miniseries. that was pretty good.

You notice?
How there is not that much fuss about the marriage?

I would expect female readers everywhere would be rising up in droves to protest BC settling for GA.

yeah, i'll have to ask the next female comics fan about that the next time i run into one. it's not like dinah's a pushover, though. she's handed ollie his ass on plenty of occasions. she obviously knows what she's getting into and the fact that there's more riding on the outcome of this relationship than just those two, if he ****ed this up and went back to skirt-chasing ways, she'd probably castrate him in the most painful way possible, with the entire hero community queued up for their turn when she's done.

i'm just hoping this is finally a step in the right direction to make ollie a decent person after all the years of ****ing up.

But if Ollie's a decent person, he's boring.

no, he can still be an arrogant ******* without sticking his dick in anything that moves. it's all about moderation. if he stayed the same one-trick, horn-dog-pony he'd be boring. this is character development.

Character development that you know will be abandoned in a few years by people who miss the horndog Ollie. I just don't see the point of this whole affair. Let Ollie and Dinah continue to get over each other. Realizing someone's not right for you and moving on is also character development.

I agree with sinewave. My favorite Ollie is not the Judd Winick one who was an blathering idiot on top of being a jerkass, but the Smith/Meltzer one who's just a jerkass. Moderation!

i'm hoping it won't be abandoned because that would just be a step backwards for the character. he's got three proteges now. if he's in his late 30's, acting like he's still in his 20's, that would turn off a lot of his readers. he's got to be able prove he can learn from his mistakes. if he's willing to retrain himself into a better fighter so he can become a better hero, then it makes sense that he'd try to achieve some emotional growth as well.

exactly. i long for the smith/meltzer/hester era.

I guess we did all the b!t¢h!g when Kebab Gud had made 3 or four threads about the subject months before it happened. There were some female posters there as well. I think Twy was against the marriage/proposal, but I'm not sure.

Way I see it, which seems a stronger way of seeing it since the release of GA:YO, is that he was a skirt chaser in his youth when he was arrogant, selfish and out for a thrill that he could afford with his money. He did what he wanted, and he didnt care who he hurt or who he pissed off. Then YO happened (I think we should take that as the official origin story, no more pot smokers with a row boat, no more falling over the side - YO really drives home how he became a hunter and why he saw that he needed to continue to be so). Ollie returns to the mainland a better person, but thrust back into a semblance of his previous life (still has the money, still has the rep - but can't go being who GA is, that kinda thing doesnt fly in the city) and so always tows the line between who is is now, and who he was. And sometimes that line gets blurred. He sees society for what it is now and becomes a liberal enforcer. But there is still the temptation of what higher society can give him, so he slips back into the old ways every now and then - throwing money at something or using what god gave him and people's assumption of what person he is to nail what he wants. The man still has desires.
