How hard is this to understand??? He said that the PS3 sold more units than the 360 when Gears of War was released. Thats not the "WHOLE" year, as you said. Thats near the end of the 360's first year, beginning of the PS3.

Come on guys. That is the worst stat I have heard.

And yet PS3 still managed to have better sales than Xbox 360 did when Gears of War came out. Now THAT's pathetic (for Xbox), unless you for some bizzare reason think that Uncharted is a better game than Gears of War.

Please tell me how he can change that in any way. He said that the PS3 sold more units that the 360 did WHEN gears came out. Not "even with", but "when".

If we go back in this thread, you'll remember where I compilled all of the data for the 3 territories and the PS3 did come out ahead of the 360.

And in fact the ytd difference between the PS3 and 360 in America is largely deminished by the PS3 versus 360 sales in japan, and when you factor in how the PS3 is outselling the 360 in America, they've actually sold very close to one another this year, with the PS3 having an edge.

The 360 outsold the PS3 by 2:1 this year.

All the top selling games in Japan that aren't DS games are Wii games. What's thr attach rate at (keep in mind the DS is the top platform in Japan, the Wii is still doing well though.

THird party stuff isn't selling as well as it should, given the userbase, but I don't think the attach rate is bad or anything, I could be wrong.

You are. Aside from the usual suspects (Wii Sports, Mario games) no Wii games are doing well at all.

To be fair as well the PS3 had to compete against a well established 360 that had a cheaper price and a much larger library, and the 360 crowd having already bought a console not feeling the need to buy another. Then tack on the Wii launching very close to the PS3 and selling insanely well and I'd say the PS3 had a much worse launch date.

The 360 by comparison had it much much easier. If you wanted a next gen console and didn't want to wait a year, you HADto go with the 360. It had 0 competition at launch, and a year to build up a library. Remember all the "PS3 has no games" like 1 month into it's release? It's because they were comparing it to the library of a system with a years head start to a system that was only out 1-2 months.

The 360 was competing with the mammoth PS2 which was still seeing big releases like God of War 3 while big-name games from the big developers were getting pushed back to 2007 and 2008. Not to mention the PS3 is enjoying a good portion of it's success due to it being the cheapest Blu-Ray player, which probably explains why even it's best games are having a hard time breaking a million, if at all.

According to NPD numbers, the PS3 is not outselling the 360 in N. America.

As someone who worked at Circuit City for the past 3 years, I can assure you that the XBOX 360 had plenty of competition:

- No available consoles from January-May.

- The PS2. It was now down to a very low price and had tons of games, including the GoW and the Guitar Hero games keeping it VERY alive and in demand.

- The PS3. Yes, the PS3 didn't launch until a year later, but I'd actually argue that there were more people not buying an XBOX 360 in its first year because they were waiting to see how good the PS3 would be before they chose which console to buy than there were people actually choosing the PS3 over the 360 once it finally came out. The promises of what the PS3 would be in 2006 were MUCH more of competition to the XBOX 360 than what the PS3 actually delivered on in 2007. I can't tell you how many times in the 360's first year that I heard "I'm not buying any until I see if the PS3 can live up to its promises."

God of War 3 isnt even out yet. And if you meant GoW2, that wasnt released till earlier last year

I am comparing PS3's year one performance against Xbox 360's year one performance. PS3 managed to out-do Xbox 360's year one performance, even though Xbox 360 had pretty crappy competition at the end of it's first year, and PS3 did not have a "Gears of War" type AAA game to push it.

He clearly says PS3's year 1 performance vs the 360's year 1 performance. Whats so hard to understand about that?

Actually it is. It's outselling it in Europe overall, outselling in in Japan by whatever 2 digit number, etc.

For the YTD stuff, the difference in America between the PS3 and 360 is like 2 million? The PS3 outsold the 360 in Japan, this year, by like 1.3 million, lowering the year difference to 700k, the PS3 is already selling in 1 year what it took the 360 to sell in 2 years in Europe. They're neck and neck, and when I tabulated the PS3 sales back in November-ish, they were ahead of the 360 yoy by 281k.
