Sneider himself never claimed the list to be official.
He claimed they were 'strong contenders' who he 'heard' of from multiple 'sources'.
He made this claim after saying that Marvel/Sony had made an official list, but he made sure not to claim that his was the official list.

Proof, please. :)

The new “Spider-Man” movie has been shrouded in secrecy, and as with any shortlist, there are actors in the mix whose identities remain a secret. It’s also possible that one of the aforementioned quintet may not end up testing for the coveted role, but as of right now, those are the five actors TheWrap has heard consistently from trusted sources.

You mean people except Talion, PeterBenParker, Airwings, and Warhorse.
"A shortlist that people around here may like better"
That's why I said may. :p
Maybe I should have said:
"A shortlist that some people around here may like better"
:whatever:
But I think we can all agree my list contains more people who would actually fit the part of pp and sm really well. :yay:

Currently, this what I'm thinking:

Who I want for Spider-Man:

Dylan O'Brien or Shameik Moore

Who I wouldn't object to:

Nat Wolff, Asa Butterfield, Billy Unger, Timothee Chalamet (in that order).

Here's another thing to consider.

Kenneth Branagh said he was left unimpressed with the screen tests of the actors on the shortlist for Thor and went back to square one and found Chris Hemsworth.

To that end, some people can, and invariably will, argue that one of the actors from this shortlist will without a doubt end up as Spidey. But what if they don't? What if Marvel is left unimpressed with this particular shortlist with a time gap toward the filming of Spidey's scenes for Civil War that's getting smaller and smaller with each passing day? Does anyone really believe under this circumstance that they are just about to screen test? Or is the reality that screen testing actually happened a while ago?

I know that. But like I said, the general public i.e casual audience who look at such news are probably perceiving it as the list of spidey candidates.

Who cares what they think? As long as WE know that it's not real and that the one who'll be chosen will most likely won't be someone from that list.

Thanks for the links, guys. I didn't read any of those caveats as meaning that the reported-on shortlist wasn't real, but others' mileage may vary.

who is Shameik Moore?

To me, the really interesting thing about the list is not the names, its the age range.
In the weeks ahead, if we hear more names,
They will continue to be in that range .

When Sneider talked about the possibility of Spider_Man Not being white ,
He mentioned it on the Meet The Movie Press Podcast.
He NEVER wrote about it in his column because he couldn't confirm it.
The fact that he wrote about this list in The Wrap speaks volumes.
But the fact he never claimed it was official also speaks volumes.
His hand was forced by the tweet that came out which practically asked for someone to make up a list and gave a wink to Sneider for him to release it.
He had to release something then and there, not on a podcast, and thush e wrote a short article. He took aboutanh our to gather who he thought was most likley for the role (based on sources) and put together a top 5 list. However, from what I have seen Sneider not only hates DOB but he also seems to think that the actor must be under 21, and Marvel/Sony would not change their minds on that. Thus it's OBVIOUS he wouldn't put Dylan on the list, because he has already stated he doesn't think he would get the role. Also, he made it clear that the list was not official and that Marvel/Sony may have other people on their list as well as they may not have some of his choices.

I do. If the general public's perception is loud, who knows what marvel will do about it.

It doesn't matter where he mentioned. When he mentioned it, it became a huge buzz and big news.

I do not watch Meet The Movie Press but I clearly remember him tweeting about Spider-Man not being white. Did he not later delete the tweets?

...because Marvel/Sony are so stubborn that they wouldn't even consider someone 21 who was perfect for the role?
:loco:

I don't know if he deleted the tweets but he called spiderman fans racist.

Ya its not right any one person should prevent any one for liking or hoping x person is a pick or isn't a pick. When like I brought up we don't know all the finer details of this casting.

As for if this list was really who are last spideys standing. Even though I am not too keen any any one. I would prefer asa Nat and Tim over the other two guys. But still those 3 are not ideal pick. Same as dylan ya I like him to get the role. I think he would hit all the right marks. But he isn't the only option out there. Just going by majority of the 20s and under we all talked about he is the more ideal pick. Now is there some unknown or known actor out there better likely just I not to verse with 20s actors at the time I don't know who would be the best.

Another thing too we have to think of. If it's true that spidey scenes for civil war are being filmed to june. That gives us a month to then. Logically with all the stuff that goes on for a film production. Ie costume has to be fitted to actor. Are they in any scenes where they need some training for wire work or what not. These things take more then a few days or a week to get set. I wouldn't be surprised if when actor is revealed they been locked in for awhile now. And been in training and fitting.

So as far as 'confirming it' there's that, but he also made the claim that Marvel/Sony have no comment on his list. Thus it was not confirmed.
My point was that if there was NOTHING to the list at all.
If he felt that there was NO POSSIBILITY that any of these guys could be cast,
Its not going to going to make it into The Wrap.

I think he'll just say and do what seems plausible just to get media attention. And it works.

Ya he may be a decent known reporter. But we already know he doesn't know much on spidey. And thought different things like not peter and not white was to happen. Again no one is correct all the time. And we should not take there words as that. Untill they have official confirmation from the only folks that matter marvel studios and sony pictures.

I want to see a press release from Variety or Hollywood Reporter. And I mean now.

Yeah, it does. It says he was blatantly trying to capitalize on what Steven Weintraub (Collider Frosty) has posted earlier in the day. NOT that he felt these guys were it.

He merely capitalized on an opportunity to get clicks on his site, and mislead everyone in the process.
