^ I don't know what world you live in, but Dylan O'Brien cannot convincingly pass for a HS-age teenager.

I'm 11 years older than him, and he looks like someone of my age should (I look extremely youthful).

Hence why if they were going the college route, he'd be perfect in that regard.

It's all perception. Some think he looks too old, some think he can pull it off. Remember Sony's track record of casting their previous Spider-Men. Dylan seems to fit the pattern if you ask me.

Posted this in the teenager thread:

I know most fans (not just talking about SHH) try to make excuses for Dylan's age/look and how he can pass for a 15 year-old, how some 15 year-olds look older.. even though most of the 15 year-old kids in my school look pre-teen (most of them look YOUNG) the fact is, the younger the actor looks, the easier it will be to be able to buy them as a 15 year-old kid to the general audience.

It doesn't matter if some 15 year-olds look older. most people would mistake them for being older anyways, Peter has to look like a believable 15 year-old in this movie

Yeah, but that track record cost them -- twice.

Tobey was in and out of high school under the first hour in the first film, and Andrew was able to do one film before his age set in, so they rushed graduating because of it.

Dylan could maybe pull off one film in high school (Talking about the first solo film here) before we'd get that pattern all over again.

The people who think Dylan O'Brien looks even remotely like a HS-age teen clearly don't know how youthful-looking most actual HS-age teens look.

Wanting someone who looks like a 34-year-old adult playing a HS-age minor is like wanting someone like Julia Roberts to star in CBS' Supergirl as a 24-year-old Kara Zor-El.

Here's another thing to consider.

Kenneth Branagh said he was left unimpressed with the screen tests of the actors on the shortlist for Thor and went back to square one and found Chris Hemsworth.

To that end, some people can, and invariably will, argue that one of the actors from this shortlist will without a doubt end up as Spidey. But what if they don't? What if Marvel is left unimpressed with this particular shortlist with a time gap toward the filming of Spidey's scenes for Civil War that's getting smaller and smaller with each passing day? Does anyone really believe under this circumstance that they are just about to screen test? Or is the reality that screen testing actually happened a while ago?

Hey, you should look up the trouble Quentin Tarantino had when looking for the right Col Hans Landa. He almost gave up until the very last actor auditioned, and it was Christoph Waltz.

^ Marvel isn't picking the actor, so whether or not they're impressed by any of the people mentioned in the Wrap report means jack-squat.

What we need to be concerned with is whether Sony likes the actors mentioned in the Wrap article.

O'Brien is (or maybe was now?) a favorite at SONY based on the e-mails.

I have this distinct feeling that if Marvel don't get their way, they will walk.

^ Marvel could walk away from this deal, but they'd be guilty of breach of contract and wouldn't be able to have Spidey show up in Civil War or any other film. They'd also lose their merchandising revenue.

It turns out he wasn't. He was never attached to Spider-Man per the Sony emails revealed through Wikileaks. You can check that out, his name was just mentioned for a Edgar Wright movie, but nothing else. I've a theory that Variety claiming that O'Brien and Lerman were "mentioned" as candidates for Spider-Man is a reference to the rumors created by redditleaker23456, and not anything remotely linked to reality. It's not a big deal of a line, it's not like Variety said that they were the runner ups, they just said they were "mentioned", and since that doesn't make sense with what Marvel is going for, I'm willing to believe Variety was never mentioning something that they got from people from Sony themselves.

Got'cha.

Can we guess that the e-mail regarding Rothman bringing up Elgort, Lerman and O'Brien to be one of the fake ones, then?

You meant "doesn't make sense with what Sony and Marvel are going for", right?

Okay sir, we get it... Sony is involved too, no need to stuff it down our throats everytime somebody mentions Marvel.

If people wouldn't continue to push Sony out of the picture, I wouldn't keep feeling compelled to remind people that Spider-Man is still Sony's licensed property and that they therefore have THE final say when it comes to casting him for Civil War even though it's a Marvel Studios production.

Not fake, it's real. But it's not about Spider-Man, I was the one that brought this email up in the first place, and I thought it was about Spider-Man, but it turned out it wasn't.

That's about Baby Driver, a movie Sony is making with Edgar Wright, and that they thought maybe O'Brien or the TFIOS dude.

Here's a link if you guys are interested on the Edgar Wright's Sony project that could have O'Brien as one of the contenders:

Ohh, alright.

Phew.

Why can't you just let the fans be excited by the fact that Spidey is in the MCU and that Feigue is going to have influence? why do you have to be so negative?

Destroying the hope..

How is pointing out the actual facts of the situation when they continue to be ignored or downplayed 'being negative'?

Regardless the fact that DigificWriter brings good points, it's quite clear to me that other than the animated movie, it's Marvel that is calling the shots right now, and I think that Sony is wise enough to acknowledge that Marvel will make them a LOT of money.

I've heard that the deal that we've read in the Sony Leaks isn't the one they've signed on, and I trust them to be right. What I'm not particularly sure is if there isn't more to that than what the "official" deal tells us. I still think Marvel is co-financing the Spider-Man films, regardless of what it's officialy been said. If that makes me a truther I don't know, it's just that it makes sense, even if it's been done in ways that we would never get a definitive answer about that.

In short, Marvel is the one calling the shots for the live action Spider-Man right now. Sony is the one paying (mostly) for that, but they are trusting Marvel all the way, as they should, because Marvel has proved time and time again they know how to make these films.
