The funny thing is, I didn't want O'brien at all when his hype and support was the strongest, and he was (to the best of our knowledge) still in the running.. And now I really want him ha

I stopped wanting Dylan so much because he'd own that role so hard and more because I wanted to see the naysayers reactions when he did get cast. Which is sad, because now I just feel vindictive and I don't like that.

I just want to be happy that Spider-Man finally gets to join the Avengers.

This whole mess of mocking and all of this other crap i've sen but forgot needs to come to a close and really soak this up and enjoy the fact that some of the things we've wanted when the tasm boards was still lively is coming true (well most of it) spidey is playing with the mcu and no matter what at the end of the day this is spider-man who would've thought that we would get this chance to even talk about it and look forward to an mcu where we might see him or hear other characters mention him and then fight by them and interact how freakin awesome is this let's get back to that and throw this other stuff out the window

If he is cast... I will enjoy this thread so much. :woot:
If not then we have nothing to lose, he's an underdog at this point. The people who want Asa are the ones who have something to lose now!

People didnt seem to mind that Tobey wasn't funny. -_-

Heh. But seriously, I'd imagine most of that comes down to writing.

Tobey was funny in my opinion, however most of the humour stemmed from the Parker luck (which is great by the way) and not from Spidey's own mouth.

I want a mix of Tobey's Parker and the quippy Spider-Man we all know and love.

It's actually easier to go from comedy to drama than the other way round. Comedy requires a unique sense of timing. For drama, everyone can be serious in life (and usually are at some point) and draw upon that, but not everyone is able to be consistently funny. Some people don't even seem to have a sense of humour.

Also, the most funny people in real life around others are the most serious people when their alone.

I just made that quote up but it's true.

I too have heard several times that comedy is harder to pull off than drama.

I think that's part of why the Marvel Studios actors have been so successful. Look at Evans, he has a background in comedy, yet he nails the dramatic aspects while still being able to put his charm and humour in there. Both RDJ and Hemsworth are funny and charismatic and act the dramatic parts greatly. Chris Pratt is another perfect example of this. They all have the best of both. As of now, I have a hard time seeing Asa Butterfield being able to succeed in the same way. And that's for a character that actually requires the best of both.

Alright kids.....enough with the pettiness and attacks on other posters.....THIS THREAD IS FOR THE DISCUSSING OF WHAT ACTOR CAN BE THE NEXT SPIDER-MAN....NOT WHICH POSTER HAS CHANGED HIS MIND ABOUT THE ACTOR.

Cap's humor stems more from his fish-out-of-water nature, and there is not a trace of Evans' Johnny Storm or Jensen (Losers character) in his performance.

He still has the charm and timing though, coupled with great dramatic acting. The point still stands.

That's true. His timing helps him keep up with RDJ even while playing a serious character. Spidey, IMO, represents the quick wit of Stark mixed with the heroic nobility of Rogers.

Exactly!

Nigh forgotten? Pretty much every one (making film and animation) references the Ditko version for inspiration.

That doesn't mean the Ditko one is the most iconic. That means they took what he had and expanded on it to make it more iconic.

I definitely think Ditko's Spider-Man is the most iconic.

I think it's a given that Steve Ditko's Spider-Man is the most iconic.

Heh. But seriously, I'd imagine most of that comes down to writing.

Even if people didn't mind (which they did), Kevin Feige clearly minds, and has explicitly stated that we're going to get a funny Spider-Man. That means he won't want to settle for a Maguire-like performance from the Spidey actor.

And it's not just down to writing, otherwise that means that anyone can do comedy just by reciting their lines, which is obviously not the case. Certain actors can make even the most funny lines fall completely flat because of their delivery, while others can turn even serious lines into comedy gold (see James D'Arcy in Agent Carter, for example).

I agree. Peter needs to have that geeky, awkward highschool personality, which I think Asa could pull off. But he also needs to exude quippy confidence and charm with his powers and intellect.

I have a hard time seeing Asa being funny and charismatic. But if he's chosen, I'm sure Feige will have seen his funny side.

I have a hard time seeing it as well. It's going to be difficult for me if he is cast, because I don't feel like he embodies the character, but I trust Lord Feige. I will be truly torn, but I will try not to pass any judgments until I'm getting up from my theater seat.

Yeah, I'll be torn. He does look the part though, IMO. I just wish he had the charisma and humor of someone like Nat Wolff.
