Well... Tobey Maguire was cast as Spidey and he's not funny, like at all.

just please don't make Peter borderline jerky this time, both as Peter and as Spidey.

Spidey is a wise ass, but not jerky wise ass. and Peter shouldn't be a jerk, either.

the only time Peter and Spidey should be allowed to be jerks is right after he gets his powers and goes on a bit of a "power trip." once Uncle Ben dies, that should all come crashing down and Peter should be more humbled.

Yeah, Tobey was too passive, Garfield came off as a jerk (at least in the first one). I really hope they get the character right!

And yes to whoever suggested that whoever gets the role should be required to watch The Spectacular Spider-Man! That is still the definitive Peter/Spider-Man!

Who ever is peter. I do hope they get both sides of character right. The shy nerdy but slowly developments into a confident guy when othet. And the witty quips jokes terms spider.

I hope we dont end up with asa. He isn't a total fit for the role for me. But if he does get role I do hope he gives us what we want in the role.

I just don't see Asa or the shortlist guys as ideal picks for the role. And I would like so many more for role. But man I hope we get reveal soon.

I agree. The actor that plays Peter/Spider-Man needs a presence on the screen that can compete with Robert Downey Jr. I don't see that in Asa.
And again, Asa is British like Garfield. Pete's a kid from Queens! It just reminds me of the posts Dark Raven made concerning "getting" that Spider-Man's New York Jewish sense of humor.

And that's how it starts. the fever, the rage, the feeling of powerlessness.. that turns good men.... cruel. :(

We know better now, don't we? Dylan didn't come from the Heaven above us. No, he came from THE SEVENTH PIT OF HELL!!! THE FALSE MESSIAH!!! THE ANTICHRIST HIMSELF!!! :oldrazz:

Ya that Jewish humor thing they should really try and do that. Also ya I would love this time if an actual American was picked. And bonus points if they a new yorker.

I still say for the role we need someone like Jim Carey or Robin wilkiams. Known more for funny side of acting. But could also pull off the more dramatic stuff.

Wasn't someone talking about its far easier for a funny actor to do more drama acting. Then trying to go from being a drama actor to funny roles.

Dylan is an American and a New Yorker. And he's good at comedy.

Though in the article I listed on the previous page, dramatic actors can do comedy.

I am not saying they couldnt. I just recall what ever post it was. It's harder for drama actors to go to comedy acting. For stuff like timing natural wit and etc....... stuff.

That is why ideally I would want someone more like dylan. Since we can see that he came do both humor and more serious stuff. And has that natural wit and charm. Where as asa we just see the serious acting side. And have no clue if he has any good skills or could pull off comedy without it being forced.

That is why dylan or folks in his wheel house is who I rather have seen on short list or be front runner. Just look at how mcu been built up so far. With more comedy bent on things. And folks like Pratt and downey. You want someone who a mix of both for spidey pick.

Asa looks British too. Like if you saw him walking around New York, you could tell he's not from New York. Just my opinion though

Those two can be a little over the top. I picture more of a Michael J. Fox, someone who's likeable that has good comedic timing.

Again, I agree.

And this is not being a "Dylan lover." This is coming from me being a Spider-Man fan!

Just like Iron Man and Peter Quill, Spider-Man is primarily a comedic, fun character and when needed, will get serious. RDJ is a comedic actor, so is Chris Pratt, and either guy can get dramatic at the right moments.

We've seen Dylan O'Brien do that in both Maze Runner and the latter of Teen Wolf season 3B, he'll do it once again in Scorch Trials.

I've never seen Asa do comedy, so I can't judge him on that front, but from what I have seen of him in interviews and such, he just seems very stiff, wooden, and awkward. He seems like a nice guy and is regarded by many as an up and coming star with great acting abilities. I agree. But just because he's a great actor... It does not necessarily mean he has what it takes to pull off Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Eric Stolz is a great actor and he didn't have it takes to pull off Marty McFly... Nuff said.

Asa Butterfield isn't right because Spider-Man should be "someone like Dylan". :whatever:

Thank God that the rest of the internet seems to be WAY more welcoming to one of these kids becoming Spider-Man. :yay:

Totally I said it before I would prefer dylan he hits all the marks I want out of mcu spidry. But he isn't the only one who could do it. Do I have other perferd names no. And that is more cause I and not to versed with the current 15 to 25 yr old range actors. But asa well could be a decent peter he isn't my ideal spidey.

But if he does end up named peter. I again hope for the best. And curious to see how his take will be. But ya I be a little disapointed at first. But if in the end he or who ever hits the marks I probably be happy.

Talion this isn't we don't want asa cause he isn't dylan debate. We are debating on if asa could perform well and not force on the comedy side of the role. We don't want to see another Tobey situation here.

We just want to see both spidey and peter be handled in the right way. And ideally for what the character is. It would be a wiser move to go with a comedy based actor. Then trying to take a more serious actor and hope they can do comedy.

No, because Dylan is like Spider-Man.

Any argument given for any other choice can be changed to favor O'Brien on here, and I find that very puzzling.

What if people honestly believe that Dylan is the best choice? An opinion shouldn't bother anybody, we all have them.
