I'm willing to admit it is looking more and more that the Paleyfest thing was because Dylan didn't get/was not considered due to age and had a NDA and/or did not want to talk about it. And if he was not considered due to age, that would be a shame. I think Dylan can still pull off a high school student, just make him a junior or senior instead of a sophomore.

Dylan O'Brien was cast to play a high school Stiles in Teen Wolf FOUR YEARS ago. He was 19 year old back then. Why Marvel from all the studios would fall for the same mistake that Sony fell twice casting an adult to play a high schooler, when even freaking Teen Wolf got it right?

If it makes you less sad, Marvel is following the type of casting that Teen Wolf did with O'Brien back in 2011, they are casting a 18-20 year old actor to play a 15 year old character. Just like it happened with Dylan O'Brien... FOUR years ago.

Asa, to me, does not have the look. His blue eyes (I know that's superficial, but more often than not, he has brown eyes in the comics) and he looks really young (more like thirteen) and while I think Spidey should be thin, he looks to skinny, like a boy as oppose to a teenager. He may be a very good actor, but I don't know if he can pull off the charismatic wiseguy in the league of a Robert Downey Jr. or Chris Pratt. Hopefully, if he is cast, I am proven wrong.

It's funny that you say that, since the way that Peter is drawn in your avatar looks JUST like Asa to me. Asa Butterfield looks very Steve Ditko's Spider-Man, while Timothée Chalamet looks very Mark Bagley's Spider-Man. I love both approaches, and I hope that the best actor for the role gets the part.

Talion never ceases to amaze me. Must be because I'm not worthy

Tobey Macguire was 27 when he played a High Schooler. Garfield when he was around 28. And I, and no one else I've ever talked to, ever had a problem believing it. Not sayin that means O'brien (or anyone else in particular) is in the running, but just sayin

I thought about changing my user status for a minute. But then I thought: Nah. I am WORTHY. :woot:

Sony's not going to make the same mistakes they made with McGuire and Garfield by casting someone whose age doesn't allow the character to remain in high school for longer than one year.

Yeah, Asa looks NOTHING like Peter Parker. :whatever:

Correct. That was then, we are in the now. One of the biggest complaints shared by both the general audience and the critics was the fact that these actors were too old to be playing teenagers. I understand what you are saying, but when Marvel says that they are spending more time in high school, what they are really saying is that they are casting younger, and by younger they mean teenagers, as proved by the very short list. Have you noticed that UNLIKE the actors that WEREN'T involved with the casting, these actors NEVER denied that they were up for the role? Nat Wolff "plead the 5th" and that was about it. The others you can all NOTICE that they are indeed running for the role. Just look at how they behave in social media. Look at Chalamet's instagram exile, look at Liam James "my time will come" cryptic tweet from April, 13th, look at Asa Butterfield's reactions on Twitter and social media, look at D'Onofrio's endorsement over Nat Wolff, look at Holland gratuitously showing off his physical skills. They ARE contenders and they are acting as such.

It's there for those willing to pay attention and see other actor than Dylan O'Brien.

Are you really that incapable of understanding simple straightforward reporting, such as the following?

The next step for Sony, of course, is to recast Spider-Man. The studio is looking to go back to Spidey’s roots and put the character back in high school, which would require it to cast a younger actor, Variety has learned. Andrew Garfield is no longer playing the character.

Notice that it says "the next step for SONY", not "the next step for Marvel".

That is such a bizarre thing to tell people. "Hey, the guy you want for the part is going to get it, but don't be sad, they're going to use the same casting process to cast someone else. That makes it okay."

Also, I'm really very curious. What "hope" am I "keeping alive"? I really do want to know.

Talion, the Variety article that I quoted above in my response to MyDudeSpidey clearly says "The next step for Sony is to recast Spider-Man", not "the next step for Sony (and Marvel) is to recast Spider-Man".

I don't know, reality is what reality is. My fiance survived a car crash and while she didn't get herself hurt or died - because she could, the car was a total loss, she fractured her collarbone and is going to have to spend three months bed ridden. Life sucks, but it could be worse, you know? It's all perspective.

Figure of speech.

Marvel and Sony are working together to bring Spider-Man back to the big screen in live action. The deal is there in the emails if you want to read it. Or don't. It won't change that you could get a HELL of a better idea of what is going on if you got to research them instead of just going by what the trades are saying. This is a Marvel and Sony venture. Together. And yes, this is unprecedented. Let's hope that Kevin Feige from Marvel Studios will be able to steer Spider-Man's boat, because if you haven't read the Sony emails, the people at Sony don't have a SINGLE clue on what they are doing.

That sucks. I hope she does well.

Yeah, okay. Are you sure you didn't just immediately assume that anyone who might disagree with you once or twice is "against you" and therefore a Dylan supporter? Because that's what I got out of your "figure of speech." But since I have made it clear multiple times in the past (often in posts addressing you) that I don't support him, I thought I must have just been confused because that would have been absurd.

I just hope this ends in a few weeks, now that AoU released it´s just matter of time until they announce the actor or something, if it´s Sony work to announce i expect it to be sooner (arround May 11 to May 22).

I think is going to be Asa for the reason i expressed before: he looks the part (imo), he looks younger than anyone in the shortlist, he is well known, from what i´ve heard he can act and most of all: the rumor of him beeing Marvel´s pick, btw i know Sony has to pick but if Marvel (allegedly) want him that´s a good sign...

i expect an event hosted by Sony but Feige would be there to present him and maybe show the concept art for the suit ala black panther...

I got off of the "Dylan Hype Train" right before it crashed, LOL.

I don't believe in people against me here. That's absurd, there's nothing to be against me here, and those who attack the users personally here are punished. I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about the situation in general. I don't talk about people by the way, I'm always trying to discuss facts, ideas, concepts and notions instead of people. I'm sure that this is not the first time that you think I get the "wrong impression" when it's not the case at all. I don't care if you like Dylan O'Brien or not, I don't think you are "with me or against me", that's not the way I operate.

Don't forget that Multiple sources also confirmed that he was the favorite.

I expect a MARVEL and SONY event, with Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal together as the producers.

Like I said, absurd.
But when you quote me and the use the word "you're", I'm going to assume you are talking about me--just like me using the word "you" in this is me talking about you. And then when you refuse to clarify what exactly you mean, hypothetical questions start being asked.

I can't find copies of the leaked emails anywhere online, so all I can do is go by what was reported on by Variety, THR, and others and analyse this deal based on that reporting.

We have a thread for it here on the Hype. it's also on Wiki Leaks.
