I can't find copies of the leaked emails anywhere online, so all I can do is go by what was reported on by Variety, THR, and others and analyse this deal based on that reporting.

So that's the problem and why you dissonate so much from the others here. You're simply not as much informed as me and a few of the others here that took to their time to dive deep on the emails regarding Spider-Man.

Man, this has been made avaliable since April, 16th. There are a LOT to digest here, so take your time:

There's also a thread here on the boards, with people commenting on their findings and what not:

Sony E-mails on wikileaks

It has 27 pages and MORE THAN ENOUGH evidence for you to understand that Marvel would never agree with this if Sony was in control, basically because there is NO control when it comes to Spider-Man at Sony, they are just basically clueless when it comes to superhero films, while they are great at other areas. This deal is simply the best that could happen to them at this point, because Marvel KNOW how to make Spider-Man profitable again, and that's what they are trusting them to do. Good reading. :woot:

im really getting sick and tired of harry and Tallion's cocky behind attitude on here you knows it's guys like you I hope that you guys get proven wrong by official casting cause you seem to like rubbing your noses at people telling them crap like you know something and I am tired of seeing it here learn to humble yourself because all that's goin on is speculation and the fat lady hasn't even sung yet, you guys are giving Asa a bad name with me

How am I being a cocky ********? I'm just having Civil debates with other users that post in this forum. it's Dylan vs pretty much eveyone else mentioned in this forum.

And how am I giving Asa a bad name with you? as much as people talk about Dylan and try find every tiny piece of speck that indicates he got the role? shouldn't you be turned off on him as well?

I'm not rubbing anything on anyone's noses. I'm sorry if reality isn't what you'd like, but the reality is that we have a shortlist and we are about to get one of those actors as Spider-Man. And even if neither of them is cast, Marvel has been painting a quite crystal clear picture of what they want for this reboot. If you don't like what I'm saying, use the ignore button or reason with me why you think I'm wrong.

Basically, you people don't like anyone that tell you that the chances of O'Brien getting the role are the same as Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield getting back to play a high school Peter Parker. Again. Hence, it's not happening. That's the reality of things, and if you don't like it, I feel like me and others have been here since the beginning to help you adjust your expectations instead of keep hoping for a completely unlikely outcome.

And regardless if you want me to be "proven wrong", it's not happening not because Marvel is mean and don't want you to be happy, it's not because Marvel is on my side, it's nothing "against you" or "against Dylan O'Brien". It's about Marvel's vision. They want a kid that looks like a kid and make a trilogy out of that. That's been clear since the very first press release. If you haven't adjusted for that so far, even after more than one week after the short list was revealed, I'm sorry.

But let me tell you that outside the SHH bubble, Asa Butterfield, Timothée Chalamet, Nat Wolff, Tom Holland and even Liam James are getting a lot of fan support. Don't be mad at me for showing you why Dylan O'Brien as Spider-Man is not happening, because it's been right in front of you the whole time.

@ Harrry go back and look at your posts because thats exactly what i'm seeing telling people to give it up and get off the train before it crashes and that's just among other things cause I don't have time to go back and mark every little post you've done

@Tallion You really need to stop thinking if doesn't agree with you its because he or she supports DOB but I think you must've missed my posts back i'm not here for any actor i'm here for spidey and I do have a favorite but i'm not one who holds onto it whatever is best for Spidey is

but I dislike cocky people so i will do just that ignore

You are mistaken. I was referring to myself not anyone else currently riding the Dyl train:
I got off of the "Dylan Hype Train" right before it crashed, LOL.

And what other things do you mean?

You really need to stop telling me to stop if you are not calm enough even to type straight. If you have a problem with anything I say, please do us all a favor and ignore me all the way.

If you actually read what I'm saying, you'd realize that we have a lot in common. I'm here for Spider-Man and I also don't have a favorite, neither I'm the one that knows what is the best for Spider-Man. That's Marvel and Kevin Feige's job.

And I don't think you support O'Brien or not, you said it yourself that you want me to be proven wrong. I just told you why I'm not going to be "proven wrong", and that's because what I'm doing is based on analyzing what Marvel is looking for when it comes to Spider-Man. I'm right not because of any privileged information, but because we already have enough information to picture where they are going with this. I'm sorry, but attacking me and wanting me to be "proven wrong" or whatever won't change any of that.

This thread gets worse and worse by the day. You simply aren't allowed opinions anymore. It's utterly ridiculous.

my opinion is that Asa Butterfield kid would visually make a cruddy peter parker.

EDIT: Nevermind.
No, please tell me why Marvel dislike the talented actors Lerman (stated earlier this year) and Asa. I got the feeling that the studio has a personal disliking for them in person, and it isn't anything professional (their acting skills etc)

I was imitating Talion. #Sarcasm

Agree. There are a couple people who refuse to let you have an opinion on who you want to play Spider-Man without telling you every time that your opinion is wrong and they know better
Nothing is official yet and until it is then everyone should be allowed to support who they want to. With that in mind it is my opinion that Dylan O'Brien is the perfect actor to play the character and I have yet to see any other names that would change my mind.

The truth is, you can root for whoever takes your fancy. However it's also worth considering how likely it is for that person to be chosen. So whilst you are free to support whoever (as everyone is entitled to their opinion) others are entitled to call you out on that opinion. Freedom of speech and all that.

Oh I see I am not the only one telling this guy that Sony has basically no real say in the creative direction of the new spider-man franchise and his involvement in MCU just because they release a press release to save face that they do, its not like they can put out a press release saying "we are idiots and dont know what we are doing, please help us Marvel"

Geez, I wish this was 2010 and we were discussing the actor for the first reboot.

I soo would have been rooting for Liam Aiken. Age-wise, he would have been much better than Garfield. Maybe even we could have gotten ASM III, the Irish-American actor wouldn't have grown out of the role as fast as Garfield did.

I wish it were 2001 and we would have got a teenaged Andrew Garfield for the first Raimi movie.

Hey man can you do me a favor, find more actors to champion that dont look like Peter Parker, it's really cool how you do that over and over again! :ikyn

Replacing Tobey with Andrew back in the day?
We need a fan-edit or something! :D
But could you tell the difference between Garfield and Franco? :hehe:

Dylan O'Brien was cast to play a high school Stiles in Teen Wolf FOUR YEARS ago. He was 19 year old back then. Why Marvel from all the studios would fall for the same mistake that Sony fell twice casting an adult to play a high schooler, when even freaking Teen Wolf got it right?

If it makes you less sad, Marvel is following the type of casting that Teen Wolf did with O'Brien back in 2011, they are casting a 18-20 year old actor to play a 15 year old character. Just like it happened with Dylan O'Brien... FOUR years ago.

I have no problem with an 18, 19, or 20 year old playing the role (easier if he's not a minor). Teen Wolf got it right not only age wise, but they found a charismatic fellow with a talent for comedy. THAT is what I'm looking for. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I don't see that in Asa.

And I am in no way some Dylan "fan girl" you like to paint supporters of Dylan for the role. First of all, I'm probably older than you, and have been a fan of Spider-Man dating back to 1972. I had never heard of O'Brien until these boards. Because of it, I checked some things out. I know what I want from Pete/Spidey, and of all the candidates that have been suggested, I think Dylan fits the bill the best.

I feel you guys are too hung up on age. I get it, they want someone more authentic for a teen. I would be fine if they found that diamond in the rough no one knows like Teen Wolf did with Dylan. Problem is, I don't see it in any of the so called final five. Maybe in Chalamet or that Wolf guy. But the Wolf guy looks around the same age as Dylan, so why not include Dylan if that's the criteria? And what happened to Charlie Rowe? He looks more like Pete than these five.

It's funny that you say that, since the way that Peter is drawn in your avatar looks JUST like Asa to me. Asa Butterfield looks very Steve Ditko's Spider-Man, while Timothée Chalamet looks very Mark Bagley's Spider-Man. I love both approaches, and I hope that the best actor for the role gets the part.

Asa looks in NO way shape or form like Peter Parker as drawn by Ross Andru in the 1970's.

I highly....very very highly....suggest the petty squabbling stop and people post civilly. This crap is getting old for me (and I've only been keeping up with the threads in here for about a week...hard to imagine how some of the regulars are getting sick of it)....and I'm tired of it.

Unless you post your official credentials that prove you work for Marvel/Sony....you don't know anything for sure...you are just another poster on here stating your OPINION!!!!!!!

People are allowed to post their OPINION of who should be Spider-Man without having to put up with the crap being dished out in here. I don't give a damn who you want to be Spider-Man...if you act like a rude child you will called for it. So shape up or ship out.

At least we all share the opinion that this is getting truly annoying

It almost makes Marvel seem cruel at this point :funny:

As in what's my opinion with Asa: cast him (with contact lenses if possible lol. He looks like he might shoot a blue energy blast out of his eyes any moment)

Yeah, Asa looks NOTHING like Peter Parker. :whatever:

The irony is that Peter Parker doesn't even look drawn like a teenager in that comic. :o
