Dylan O'Brien was cast to play a high school Stiles in Teen Wolf FOUR YEARS ago. He was 19 year old back then. Why Marvel from all the studios would fall for the same mistake that Sony fell twice casting an adult to play a high schooler, when even freaking Teen Wolf got it right?

If it makes you less sad, Marvel is following the type of casting that Teen Wolf did with O'Brien back in 2011, they are casting a 18-20 year old actor to play a 15 year old character. Just like it happened with Dylan O'Brien... FOUR years ago.

Thinking about this, you know what would have been cool?

Back when Raimi decided to walk and Sony decided to reboot, what if Sony and Marvel decided to make the deal then. I believe Marvel expressed interest in doing that. Bring Feige in at that time and go with the idea of a high school kid. Then Marvel finds its diamond in the rough in Dylan O'Brien. The Amazing Spider-Man follows Marvel's ideas for the series and we get a better movie. Then we would have already 2 Amazing Spider-Man movies established in the MCU. Norman Osborn would be established in the MCU. Spidey could have cameoed in Age of Ultron. The next Spidey movie would be Amazing Spider-Man 3. Spidey would already have an established relationship with Tony & Steve and make Civil War mean even more. And with Infinity War being ideal for Pete to get symbiote, the black costume would be in the 4th Amazing Spider-Man, and not seem rushed if they give him the black suit, unlike now in which it would be the second MCU Spider-Man movie.

Sigh. What could have been...

Nothing is in stone until we hear it from Marvel or Sony. There is always hope.

Throwing in my two cents

I honestly think O Brien, if he isn't chosen (whch I don't think he will) will go down as one of the best Spider-Man choices that never happened. Him and MIchael J Fox.
I don't think O Brien will get it because he's a fan favorite. I feel like fan favorites never get the role. But maybe Im just not paying attention.

I think actually casting a high schooler is a neat idea. ANd I love the idea of putting, and keeping Parker in high school for a bit. However wouldn't that make filming harder due to child labor stuff with the SGA (they don't want more Diff'rent Strokes kids)

I still think O brien could pull off High school and he still seems younger than the rest of the Avengers so the age difference will still work.

Im very skeptical of Asa Butterfield. He's not a bad actor but I just don't get charisma from him. Charisma is very hard to fake/act. It takes a very talented actor/actress to pull that off

Someone make a ****ing Flux Capacitor, go back in 1985, and get MJF for the Spidey role!

Curious about Michael J. Fox. For what incarnation of Spidey was he considered?

He wasn't considered. Im just saying that if they made a Spider-Man movie back then he would've been perfect

He wasn't, but people have looked at him and thought he would've been the perfect Peter Parker AND Spider-Man. He had the charisma, acting ability, comedic chops and likeability to be the character.

So he had the misfortune of being born in the wrong generation.

Back then Michael J Fox would have been perfect. Hard to imagine antone else as Marty McFly. He just has so much charisma. O'Brien is the same sort of actor for me. Just pores out of him. Think this is why many think he is perfect for the role.

Spider-Man in the 80's, Michael J. Fox or John Cusack would have been perfect! :yay:

I gave up on Dylan O'Brien getting the role when I read Fiege's comments about them wanting the character to be 15-16 years old. Doesn't make Talion's posts any less annoying but unfortunately I have to agree with him at this point, all the signs point to them going with a younger actor. I hate it but that is pretty obviously the direction they want to go in.

I wish they would change their mind and just pick the best actor for the role instead of pigeonholing themselves into this High School angle but I think it's pretty obvious from Feige's comments and his leaked Sony emails that he is going to force the High School angle through no matter what. He wants High School Peter Parker so we're getting High School Peter Parker. Personally I don't think the High School angle is the least bit interesting but it's obvious Feige thinks it's the most interesting take on Spider-Man. It's very disappointing but it is what it is.

Cusack?

Not sure about that but I guess it's moot. I like Cusack but I don't think he's charismatic enough for Parker.

Cusack?

And we call Butterfield too boring for the role? :hmm

Hey man can you do me a favor, find more actors to champion that dont look like Peter Parker, it's really cool how you do that over and over again! :ikyn
If we talk looks only, Aiken did look like a ordinary teenage boy five years ago, and even more so in Fay Grim (2006). He was scrawny and would have suited the role of the awkward science nerd Peter Parker. For Spider-Man, he would have bulked up (obviously).

What's up with the bashing of his looks? Do you have a problem that his Irish heritage is slightly visable? But that's all, he's not weird looking or creepy at all so don't start claiming that or compare him with Kodi.

No offence Talion but you're being even more obsessive over this than the Dylan supporters, just stop, It's annoying.

So he had the misfortune of being born in the wrong generation.

In a way, but he was in the classic Back to the Future trilogy, which is impressive on any résumé. He, in himself, was compelling to watch. The actor for Spider-Man and Peter Parker needs to be charismatic, and not just rely on the worldwide reputation that Spidey as a character has built up over the years. That's why some people think you can cast anyone in the role and it would still do well just because of Spidey's name. But that's missing the point.

im really getting sick and tired of harry and Tallion's cocky behind attitude on here you knows it's guys like you I hope that you guys get proven wrong by official casting cause you seem to like rubbing your noses at people telling them crap like you know something and I am tired of seeing it here learn to humble yourself because all that's goin on is speculation and the fat lady hasn't even sung yet, you guys are giving Asa a bad name with me

Thank you! To me, Harry hasn't been that bad but everyone of Talion's posts is just "Dylan O'Brien is garbage, his fans are garbage, he's not getting the role, etc,etc.."

Sigh. Kids

Check out...

Sixteen Candles
The Sure Thing
Better Off Dead
Say Anything
The Grifters
Grosse Pointe Blank
High Fidelity

Sigh. I've seen them already

Don't be condescending

Sorry if it came off that way. It was meant in a more joking way, particularly with Rodrigo, who we have had our run-ins before. :cwink:

But back in the day, he seemed right for Pete/Spidey and was charismatic and funny.

Agree to to disagree... :yay:

That was interesting. Nat Wolff is Amy Pascal's favorite, and let me tell you Pascal if you're reading us:

He looks TOO OLD to play a teenager.

Look for kids like Asa Butterfield, Timothée Chalamet, Liam James and Tom Holland.
