The next Xbox

Again, I don't mind paying for Gold...Seriously. I can count on one hand how many times Live has crashed or been hacked...I'm going to assume that's due to my dollars funding what is a pretty solid online system. That's the least of my worries next gen.

However, if Sony gives me party chat with the PS4 with no charge...Then...Things will be different.

That's a good point. Live has always been pretty stable. Right now, I need Microsoft to put my mind at ease over every rumor I've read because as it stands now I will not buy the new Xbox. The Kinect things is stupid, the ban on used games is ridiculous and forced to be online at all times will alienate consumers.

yeah Gold has got to go. With Sony and Nintendo offering free online MP, there's no reason Microsoft is still charging what they're charging.
It doesn't fit with Nintendo's business but Sony are for sure kicking themselves that they didn't do the same and are giving up what would be a massive and guaranteed revenue stream far more profitable than the loss-making consoles themselves. People who've had Gold since launch have put in enough cash to buy a brand new console with minimal associated costs for Microsoft. I can't see it ever going. More likely Sony will continue with a tiered strategy but incentivise the paid version more and more as time goes on.

I don't believe the ban on used games and forcing it to be online will actually happen. Something like that can and will kill sales for your system. Limiting the rights of the consumer has never worked.

I never pay more than $30 now for live a year. :oldrazz:

The "always online", "ban on used games" and "Kinect MUST be one to play games" all sound ridiculous...Which is why I actually think they could happen. I've said this before but companies seem to falter on their third system...More so if the one prior was extremely successful. I could easily see Microsoft getting a big head over the 360 and flat out expecting everyone to buy this new system no matter what BS crap they pull.

I'm hoping they don't...But...I won't be shocked if they do.

And when it bites them in the ass, I'll be enjoying the PS4 (if it doesn't have the same features).

PS4 has also been rumored to not play used games. It's apparently something both Sony and Microsoft really want to push.

I never buy used games anyway so it wont affect me at all, and paying around $60 a year for a much better/stable online experience is worth it.

But the "must use Kinect" feature will sadly make me turn away from Xbox :(

Ever rent a game? Borrow one from a friend? Let friends borrow yours...mayhaps have younger siblings to lend games to?

It's not just "used" that will take the hit....It's all of that.

I don't ALWAYS buy used but I will (example: RE6 used for 24.99 was a better deal than RE6 new for 40 when I bought it) but it's BS, IMHO to take away that option.

And look for me to buy a Wii U only. Oh yeah, I'll do it. I'll do it!

Well, the good news that the recent leak with the Kinect games didn't mention anything about used games.

Also, this rumor was going around with the PS3 also.

Wow, nice. Prepaid online cards?

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a crucial caveat to the 'always online' rumour. And if there was it wouldn't be reported along with the rumour as it would kill the headline. And the used game issue I can understand although it seems to work fine for PC & steam. Kinect also, there has to be a 'but'. Most teens don't have room for Kinect even if they wanted to use it.

Maybe we're just standing in the way of progress, 2-3 console generations from now people will be laughing at the thought of their console not always being connected to the online.

Microsoft, Sony & likely 3rd party developers too. Probably all of gaming in the not too far future and I will only have a problem if the prices of anything less than the best games aren't amended to reflect this change. It's not like the booming areas of ios, tablet & mobile games are transferable. Neither are AAA DLC, XBLA, Steam, or digital purchases of books, films & music...so maybe people aren't as against it as they think.

Has no one thought about poor little ol' Gamestop? :( :hehe:

Sayonara to them if this goes through.

Developers just need to cut the spending costs on games sometimes...Seriously, no way some of these teams should be AS big as they are. Also, not every game has to be 60 dollars (or possibly 70 in the future?). I'm fine with paying 60 + tax for AAA games...But not every game is AAA...

Exactly. I'm annoyed that every game is $60, even games that only last a few hours anyway. Some games, like GTA, Fifa, Elder Scrolls games, Mass Effect, Halo, and older CoD games were games I would not have minded paying $60 for. But other games I don't want to pay $60 for.

My friend is a manager..He said he fully expects to not have a job within the next five years. Used WILL go bye bye..I'm not to keen on that but it's gonna happen.

Just as long as I get TB hard drives as well good digital only prices...I suppose I'll be ok.

I'm playing Fire Emblem on the 3DS right now...I paid 40 dollars for this game and I'm well over 30 hours into it and the end isn't even in sight.

I get that it's a hand held game...but still, there's NO reason for games that last 4-8 hours to be 60 dollars. I don't care HOW good they are.

Yep. Ebay and Amazon ftw.
I'll check it out next time. I did get a great deal on MSP online a while back.

That is sad for everyone that works in game retail. And I'll miss those shops being on the high street if they do die out.

A game without high development cost should be $40-$45 at launch. True AAA games that are paying to push technical boundaries I don't mind being $60 (although I'll still wait for them to drop a bit unless they're one of my must-haves).

It's because they sometimes price those games so high not for how much it costs to make the game, but for marketing costs.

I am fully prepared to be a Nintendo only guy once again. I hope Xbox surprises me and makes things OK, but right now I'm leaning Nintendo. I already prefer Hulu and Netflix on the Wii U and once they get me some new games I'll be A-OK. In all honesty, the only real reason for me to get an Xbox anymore is for Halo, and Halo 5 is a long way off.
