No it wasn't V, it was actually quite funny. You're just being overly sensitive.

Hey someone who's name rhymes with Don Shmedwards apparently will not be speaking at any event regarding the nomination:

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/46637.html

"If there is not an explanation that's satisfactory, acceptable and meets high moral standards, the answer is 'no,' he would not be a prime candidate to make a major address to the convention," said Don Fowler, a former Democratic National Committee chair.

Now I'd hate to speculate on someone so sacred that the mere mention of possible immorality is enough to term the most liberal democrat into Hitler's right hand of banning, but the silence in spite of this is a bit suspicious.

He didn't say that he didn't think it was funny, he just said it was wrong. Hasn't anyone ever said something that made you laugh but think or say "Man, that was really wrong" at the same time?

:hehe:
I know my history. None of the people who had my anncestors as slaves are still alive :hehe: and modern racism comes from uneducated, low lifes who I coudl care less about
The only thing I really take offense to are seeing confederate flags on a car. And even that that doesnt mean theyre racists :yay:
"Sigh"
Those people were oppressed. African Americvan now, for the vast most part, arent. Whats your point
I would have done the same thing if I were in that situation...but Im not.
Ok.

Yes we do. Times have changed. Of course we recognize them, but I have such a little amount of respect for any peopl hatin on Black people that they arent worth the effort to even think about because they have no say in what goes on in my life. It wasnt like that in the times your talking about, so having my opinion wouldnt have suited you well back then. But it does now :yay:

Please. Obama is a lot stronger then some candidate who has to play victim to get support.

?
Okay. To save time going back and forth - I'm gonna say that you shouldn't say you don't understand why folk would be offended, then say you DO understand in your response to me why folk could get offended but YOU WON'T because times have changed.

Stating the obvious as far as the day to day - the ignoring that most blacks in my experience do to exist in the "day to day" - because of the vocal minority who takes comfort in trying to reduce based on difference - does not excuse the fact that a man who has lived thru the time period where the phrase was common has used it to describe his opponent.

My point remains that he should have known better and since he didn't either:
one - he does know but is trying to get the dems to act out.
two - he is clueless and I don't want someone so unaware in his own backyard to handle foriegn policy.

V.

U got jokes - this may be hard for me to explain,....

Excel, for once we are in total agreement (and for the record, I love the XL thing). Obama is playing the victim card, if not directly, than through surrogates...and frankly, I can't figure out why. Its a ridiculous strategy but I doubt it will be effective. The African American base is already rallied behind him, and at this point I am 99.9% sure they won't go away no matter what he does. Therefore, playing the "racist card" can only have one desired effect that I can see. He wants to stir up the whole "white guilt" angle to get voters.

Frankly, I think the whole white guilt thing is a load of ****. What do I have to be guilty about? During the time of slavery, my ancestors were living in poverty in the boot. During the time of Jim Crowe laws, my great grandfather was living in poverty, working in steel mills. During the civil rights movement, my grandfather and father...you guessed it, living in poverty, working in the steel mills. I never did anything to oppress black people, my ancestors never did anything to oppress black people. I have nothing to feel guilty about. Most white Americans do not. The notion that we should be apologetic and hand this campaign to Barack Obama because a few jackasses use the word uppity with a racist over tone is ridiculous and frankly not a road the Senator should be going down.

Same thing with me. My ancestors came over here from Ireland in the late 1800s, lived in New York City for a while, emigrated to Kansas and then returned to New York. They have no connection to slavery and never lived in a state where Jim Crowe laws were on the record.

My mom's side of the family is pretty much the same, except her relatives came from the Mediterranean and settled in New Jersey before moving to upstate New York. I don't know why I should be responsible or feel guilty for something my ancestors never did

You shouldn't. But Jesse Jackson may cut out your balls.

ah, the beauty of being the modern day immigrant, I have nothing to explain or ancestors to apologize for.

Yeah, I'm getting Obama fatigue myself.....its a good thing he's going on vacation.

With the rest of the Dems in Washington. Have fun, guys!

I wonder if he's on a B-ball court right now. Working on that jump shot. My president better have a higher free throw percentage than Shaq.

I personally do not think anyone should have to explain or apologize for the actions of their ancestors, something which they had no control over.

No, you don't have to, but you just did that in response to Ex's comment. If it really didn't matter in the slightest the last page wouldn't have the family histories of half of this board.

I'm commenting on Obama's newest strategy. He does seem to be trying to invoke this feeling of white guilt.

Well, some people think that every white person in this country is guilty for slavery and segregation...

I wish Pelosi would go on a permanent vacation. I very seldom, if ever, say that I hate someone that I don't know personally, but my god I hate that woman.:o

Other than calling out some phrases, which many others agree are racially provocative, I don't see it. Didn't he spend father's day telling black men to man up? Or is that some double reverse racism white guilt play I'm not seeing? I won't say the media hasn't done that but to call it Obama's latest strategy seems a bit much.

Tire Joke
Posted Wednesday, August 06, 2008 6:24 PM By Christopher Beam

Call it the Candidate-Campaign Consistency Quotient: the ability of the candidate to remain in line with the campaign’s message. Judging from the past few weeks, John McCain’s CCCQ is low and trending downward.

Last week, the Washington Post noted McCain’s tendency to veer off course. When he was supposed to be slamming Obama for supporting a 16-month timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, McCain called it “a pretty good timetable.” When he was supposed to be building a brand for his energy plan, the “Lexington Project,” he told an audience “you can call it anything you want.”

Add a new drift to the list. After Barack Obama suggested last week that one way for Americans to conserve gas is to keep their tires inflated (which, um, works), Republicans started handing out tire gauges engraved with the words “Obama Energy Plan.” Yesterday, Obama mocked them right back: “It’s like they take pride in being ignorant.” Still, Republicans continue to push the point.

Republicans, that is, except McCain. During a telephone town hall meeting Tuesday, McCain conceded the issue. “Obama said, a couple of days ago, says we all should inflate our tires,” McCain said. “I don’t disagree with that. The American Automobile Association strongly recommends it.” Yet McCain’s Web site still has a section on its front page devoted to the “Obama Tire Gauge.”

Why the disparity? McCain’s camp hasn’t returned requests for an explanation. My guess: It’s easier for a campaign or party to take cheap shots on behalf of a candidate than for a candidate to take cheap shots himself. Especially when it’s such a basic, right-or-wrong question as whether or not tire pressure conserves gas. You can go after Obama for not having a thorough enough energy plan. (Although many disagree.) But if you’re looking for a specific policy to attack, maybe pick something your own candidate disagrees with. Otherwise, it looks like he's undermining the campaign's message—again.

I managed to get some shots of him visiting my hometown. I can't believe I made it in time. I was actually in the area 30 minutes prior to his visit, but had no idea it was going to happen (it was unannounced). I had to jet my ass out there the second I read about it.

Did a light shine down upon you while in his presence? God wants you to vote for Barack, you know.
