The Obvious Plot Holes (Ending Spoilers)

Okay, Another stupid by me: What happens to Abe's back fin when he wearing his black B.P.R.D. suit??? In the first film it was kinda small, but you notice that in this film that its much bigger. In the scene where he and HB are leaning over Liz and they are very drunk you notice his back fin and I was just wondering where is it when he wears his black suit???

hey why did hellboy quit in the end?

Too many questions and plot holes when you think about it... Bottom line, I think the story needed work.

It was too complicated in Hellboy...

Yet too simplified, with gaping plot holes in Hellboy II: The Golden Army. The story that is.

Hellboy really needs a good villain.

the plot holes don't really bother me, I still love the movie.

More of a continuity error than a plot hole, but when I watched this for the first time I was puzzled during the scene where Hellboy is lying on his side and the image changes as if the camera were lain on its side to show us Hellboy's perspective. First the view looks towards Hellboy and he's clearly lying on his right side. Then in the Hellboy perspective shots the view of the world switches to Hellboy's view as if he was lying on his left side.

hell why didnt the king melt the crown thousands of years ago in the 1st place instead of breaking it up, the humans broke their end of the deal anyway

Also why doesn't Liz just fry all of the tooth fairies in the begining instead of waiting till all of the agents are dead? When the tooth faires first showed themselves the other teams memebers should have left and then she should have fried them instead of standing around shooting thousands of tooth faires.

Because all of the agents would have died from Liz blowing the place up, she was trying to give them time to get to safety. Another point is, in both the movies and the comics, she has been afraid to totally unleash her power around others since childhood.

As for the other plot holes mentioned in the first post, its true only Abe new she had the piece when she was taken back to the bureau.

Can anyone explain why in the first film liz is blue and in the 2nd she yellow when shes on fire?

Did i miss something?

According to Del Toro and Blair, the reason for the change in blue flame is cuz the character of Liz has more control of her flames. In the first movie she was kinda out of control and the blue part of the flame is the hottest part of the flame, but now that she is in control she wont go so out of control that the density is off wack and you end up getting uncontrolable blue flame.

IMO the blue flame made Selma Blair so sexy, and the yellow kinda hid her beautiful features.

^Thats kind of a reasonable explanation, though I do agree she looked sexier with the blue flame. But the change didnt bother me too much.

^oh yeah, man Selma looked awesome in this new movie, I really liked her hair. She looked awesome in the first also.

For those interested...

Here's an excerpt from the original script that describes the Abe breathing apparatus. This is taken from the Art of the Movie book.

Interior, the Library - Night.
On the upper floor of the library, Abe opens a high-tech case containing a pair of scleral lenses. Blinking and grimacing, he inserts them into his eyes. He then takes a gill hydrator - a handheld, pressurized water injector - and hydrates himself by pressing it against his gills. Hearing a voice, he peeks over the railing. The princess is at one of the book stands, reading.

Also from the book is an excerpt of what would have been the end credits sequence which got cut before it was filmed. The studio wouldn't pay for it. There'll be more info about this scene on the upcoming DVD.

Exterior, Antarctica - Day.
Five Zinco Enterprises helicopters land on the hard, icy surface of Amundsen's Glacier. A row of guards in black snow garb flank each helicopter.

Out of one of them exits Roderick Zinco, billionaire, madman. He carries a mechanized container, a little larger than a hatbox. Camera follows as he enters through a crevice and into--

Interior, Nazi Lab, Antarctica - Day.
Light shines through the ice walls and onto rows and rows of machinery. Tanks, weapons, and death rays out of a bad '40s pulp novel line the walls. Zinco approaches an eight-foot-tall, headless robotic body. He locks the mechanized box into place on an opening on top of the body. Several pistons fasten themselves and four metal covers rise at once, revealing --

-- the head of Kroenen, floating in thick, green liquid inside a glass jar. Out of its severed neck a set of wires connects to the base of the mechanism and snakes its way into the main body of the robot. The mechanical colossus takes a couple of steps, and Kroenen smiles...

ZINCO
It's all exactly as you promised --

Out of the shadows emerges Rasputin, dressed in a black robe and holding a small leather book. In his chest: a gaping hole, steaming softly in the cold Antarctic air.

RASPUTIN
And so shall be the end of it all...

^That scene would have been STRAIGHT out of the comics, bastard Universal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That would have been superb!!!!!!!!!

I'll give the same response I always give when people mention "plotholes" like this in movies:

If the conflict were resolved in the first 15 minutes, it wouldn't be much of a movie, now would it?

Well I hate it when people give that as an excuse. That is an excuse poor writers try to give when plot holes arise from their stories. Either they are too lazy to think of ways they could resolve that plot hole, or they just missed the plot hole completely (which is understandable). But these problems can be worked upon and resolved by skillful writers through constant editing and critiquing their own writings. All movies are not plot hole free though, but to say that plot holes must exist just to have a 2 hour movie pisses me off. Anyways I love Hellboy II even with the plot holes and all.

^I dont think the crown thing was much of a plot-hole though, Nuala and Abe never let on that they had the crown piece, so if she doesnt know about it, she cant melt it. Not to mention Nuala would never have given it up to melt anyway.

It was probably cut for budget reasons.

The Zinco scene is in the bonus features of the 3-disc set, its set up like your reading a comic though, so its just pics and some voice over. Kinda cool. a little bit graphic, just cuz they show this guy getting crushed into 2 peices and its very slow.

Just alot of really nothing, some extra, very short scenes of liz, and a long intro scene to the prince when he working out.

Yup. No Abe using the spray. Glaring plot hole remains with no explanation ;) .

Zinco thing was kind of weird on the DVD. It felt a little cheap.

i for 1 didnt like the movie one bit. i tried to watch it in the movies and fell asleep, then at home and almost didnt make it all the way though.
