The Offical Kilowog Thread

What would you rather?

  • CGI: Hulk

  • Make-up/ Suit: The Thing and Hellboy.

The same style they used for Gollum in the LOTR's films should be used for Kilowog IMO...

Given Kilowog has more humanoid proportions than Hulk or Thing, I´d go more the Hellboy route with him, combining prosthetics (with some animatronic movements) and a suit.

I'd put money on a combination of prosthetics, puppeteers and CGI. Del Toro pulled it off beautifully in Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth and it looks ten times better than most CGI characters.

I didn't vote yet, it's hard cause CGI you can do a lot with Kilowog but if you had a guy in suit, it might look more real then CGI, I mean, if you look back at Fantastic 4 with Ben Grimm it wasn't that great but it's been 4/5 years and we can possible get something good now.

Michael Clark Duncan should already be signed. I mean he is doing DirectTV commercials and Disney show cameo's. Physically you can't find a better match, voice wise is perfect and he is use to heavy make up. Anyone silly enough to bring up the "he's already been in comic book movies!!11!1" shouldn't even bother because he will be under make up.

He should be the list - this is an occasion where there is no benefit in being creative.

CGI or CGI mocap is going to be cheaper and look better than an actor with makeup. Case in point, CGI was used for the Silver Surfer, and an actor with makeup was used for the close in shots where actual acting was required. The CGI looked better.

Metal and artificial things have always looked better in CGI than organic stuff.

So what was the excuse for using CGI insted of a Body builder for the HULK?

Mr. Hyde

The Mr. Hyde character in "The League of Extrordinary Gentlemen" was played at some times by a stuntman with prosthetics or by CGI. Did you notice any difference there?

True, Mike would be almost perfect!

I really didn't. The effect used for him were really good!

I am still in the camp have an actual actor in suit, with makeup, posthestic stuff, and then enhance certain elements with cgi.

Agreed!

The big guy Michael Clark Duncan is the perfect fit to be cast as the "big poozer" himself. He is physically perfect and his voice is perfect as well. He would do a good job being the GL trainer for the new recruits.

The role should be his!

I can't wait until next years 2010 Comic Con, the marketing and promotion dept for WB's should go off on promoting the GL film.

They need to hand out cool looking GL rings that can light up to the fans attending the Con and maybe even the Hal Jordan GL mask.

Make GL T shirts with the GL symbol in the front that say "Don't be a Poozer" on the back! Or have Kilowogs face in the front and on the back and have it either say "Don't be a Poozer" or just "Poozer"! :gl: :hehe:

Hes much bigger than people. Kilowag has dimensions that could be done by a human. And whenever prosthetic can be used, I say do it, because its definitely better.

Yea i hope wb's marketing folks this time around play it smart and promote this film like crazy. like what marvel did with im wb should do with gl.

if WETA or ILM is behind the CGI, I would say make Kilowog CGI. If not, get the dudes who did Hellboy 1 and 2.

Kilowog

Kilowog is listed at 7'8". That's much bigger than most tall folks (let alone Michael Clarke Duncan). In fact he's taller than the Hulk. That would lead me to believe that he should be CGI. It will be a lot cheaper than trying to fake it with a normal human being.

well they could always go with a real actor in a suit, and then later in post make him look taller then he actually was while filming.

They could do the Hellboy thing, but his facial features need to be CG, like his eyes, the snout, etc.

John Travolta in Battle Field Earth
Just like they did with "John Travolta in Battlefield Earth: Saga of the Year 3000"? You could do much better than that with CGI (and cheaper too).
