The Offical thread to Vent if need be.

there are 2 major "opposing" tendencies in supes comics..
one tends to make the whole thing more "cartoonish" like..
the other goes for more "keep it real" feel..

First one has Mxyzptlk - as a major "protagonist" - and frankly, I never cared for it..
To move/translate it, (him), to a whole other medium as he is there, (in comics), is as ridiculous as it gets..

So smallville did the only thing that was the right thing to do, - moved him to the "appropriate" - "keep it real"
environment, which a (non-animated) tv show is by it's nature way more then the original (comics) medium..

Mxyzptlk is better than Toyman. Smallville did a good take on Mxyztlk, though.

Yeah, it shows a lack of imagination. They couldve made Myx some type of dream/fantasy episode in which a lot of crazy things happen and have Clark wake up as if it were a dream but really show a hint that it may not have been. Greg Rucka in Adventures of SUperman did a great Myx story.

My main problem is, there introducing so much to Smallville thats from the Superman era such as Lois. I feel like we are been shown everything but Superman himself. Pa Kent is dead, Lois has been introduced, various people such as Aquaman have entered Clark's life, fortress etc etc. I feel like it's superman minus the costume now.

Adventures of Superman #646 is one of the greatest comics I have ever read, top 3 easy.

Ok I'm just nipicking here but I laugh when I see it. In the ep Fragile at the start when the glass starts to shatter everywhere Maddie's foster Mom escapes the attack but she sees a mirror shaking she walks over and stares at it and screams as the shaking gets worse, then it shatters and kills her. I just think it's funny that she had time to avoid that death.

i want to vent.

why is it people always think their ideas are better than the show's writers?

Because they're on the internet, on a message board, and they feel BIG, lol. It's always easy to judge something or someone from the outside.

Gough said that episode was the network's idea...

They nearly universally said afterwards that it's one of the worst episodes ever that was mostly saved by some good work in post production (the voice over was added later).

The problems with the show's stories aren't always the fault of the writer. DeKnight has endlessly referred to how the network notes have ruined what was otherwise a good episode.

Looking in from the outside, its easy to blame the writers when that's not always the case.

They wrote the episode, they deserve the blame. I dont care if the network pressured them, they couldve made a decent episode out of it other than that garbage we got to see. And its not only the bad episodes, the season finale was so underwhelming its not even funny. I thought this thread was to vent? Let me vent.

Its also easy to eat it all up just because you really like the show.

Exactly.
Didn't DeKnight say something like his scripts have to go through 12 more people after him before you see the final product? That's the exact same thing the HL writers used to always say when fans would complain. It's really amazing how many people have their hands in the soup.

I didn't hate "Thirst." I know, I'm the only one.. LOL.. but like every SV ep, there were things about it that I liked a lot. I did hate Buffy and all that silliness, but I liked that we actually saw Clark, Lana, and Chloe doing some real (ish) college-type stuff - like going to parties. I hated the make-up job they did on KK, but I liked the outfit. And Clark as Zorro, and his associated lines were great. Also, going against the grain, I didn't like the voiceover they added. WAY too Veronica Mars, but I guess only people who watched VM might be bothered by that.

I love it when the regulars interact outside the norms - so I really enjoyed the scene where Lana was going to bite Chloe, and I, of course, loved the scene where Lana bit Clark.

The opening scene though.. with all the sorority chicks in the hot tub eating the pizza boy..!! seemed SO out of place in the series. I guess it did set up this particular story, but still.. yuck.

I didn't hate Thrist by any means, it was like third or fourth from the bottom when I thought about grading Season 5 eps, but it coulda been a lot better...

The hot tub scene and the scene where Lana was mangled at the bottom of the steps were too much for me...

Other than that, there actually were some good things to recommend it like what you've mentioned.

:D

So, it wasn't all bad.

My main problem and I just bought season 5 dvd is the quantity of kryptonite that is around. It would seem to me that the eaqsiest thing in the world would now be to obtain it. How is Superman ever a threat to any villain in this world especially when he goes public?

Does all the kryptonite disappear somehow because as it is just need to take a stroll in smallville to find some.
