There's also more important things in this world to worry about, so how about everyone just clam down and get excited for the film because you're not doing yourselves any favours getting worked up over nothing.

Which is what exactly a WB spokesperson would say if he's asked to explain the discrepancy. I wish the world is as simple as that.

2.5/4 means it's above 60% and other 2.5/4 get tomatoes. Just act fair okay. Everybody is still acting calm but in no way we don't detect the discrepancy.

I don't know about conspiracies, but I do know about inconsistencies. RT main page says 58%, but the score is actually 60% on the Captain America page. Factor in the additional fact, as is being discussed, that scored reviews marked "fresh" for other movies are being marked "rotten" for this, and something doesn't add up. I think if the scoring were more consistent, the Tomatometer would be more in line with Metacritic's current score of 64.

EDIT: Within less than a minute of this post, the main page score went up to 60%, matching what's being shown on the Captain America page.

Of course there's a little fishiness going on. Not a lot, but a little. I don't think they're going to neglect to put reviews up, but delaying some reviews is definitely not out of the question. And you know what? It's the smart thing to do. Honestly, they'd be stupid NOT do it as long as they have "plausible deniability"...and they do...tons of it. But in this case, they don't even need much, because this is perfectly legal anyway.

Again, not saying it'll stay like this. But fudging the numbers juuuuusst a liiittttlllle to make the score a little lower for a few more hours, or half a day, or a whole day is what any company with financial self interest WILL do. And WB DOES have a financial self interest in this...they also have lots of stock holders to make happy.

Really, anyone with functioning brain and even the slightest knowledge of how the world (and companies) works should be able to figure this out.

Well least to say imho, the situation is interesting. I mean, I've read enough reviews that were labeled positive, and from what I saw, there's no way that this film would really be at the quality of being "rotten" given the things that I've read some people saying about this film.

If the positive reviews were mainly medicore reviews, then I could digest this, but some of the reviews I've read, have had people ecstatically praising this film...so something got...got

I've found all the "negative" reviews lacking of good reasoning as to why they didn't like it.

I'm still way excited. What's the run time for this?

Interesting post, but right.

Wow, the conspiracy theory really took hold last night. *Chuckles.*

Whether or not the film is fresh, it's not difficult to see a vague concensus already.

I see it this way:
I had way too high hopes for this for too long and nothing but enthusiastic praise would do nothing but raise those hopes and expectations even higher. If it continued like this all the way to release day, there would be no way that any movie would be able to live up to that hype in my mind and I would be bound to be let down.
Negative reviews will only help lower my expectations so that I may still be pleasantly surprised when I do get to see it.
Interesting theory about RT though...I can't say that I buy into it yet, but it is intriguing, nontheless.
But you do realize that this will just lead the diehard, anti-Marvel DC fans to ridicule us for crying fowl, though, right?

Me too while reading through negetive reviews i found myself saying " that wont bother me" almost at every complaint. I still feel that most negetive reviews are coming from people who just dont like the character/origin of Captain America cause from what i can tell from even in the reviews negetive the movie gets it right.

For me, it's not so much about negative reviews bothering my own experience in watching a film that I personally enjoy, but more about how I don't like the fact that the film that I enjoy is getting more criticism than it needs, which could possibly effect on how some people in the GA might see the film, and thus limiting the success of the film as well.

I've noticed a lot of the negative reviews really aren't that negative from my point of view.

You guys do know the reviewer generally decides if the review if fresh/rotten? Blame the critic, not the 'corrupt' system.

it's sounding like this is a "good" movie, nothing more, nothing less. That's fine with me, as long as this doesn't feel like a two hour long advert for the avengers. All this sacrificing good potential super hero movies for one big one. Is making me NOT want to watch avengers, there's no point having a bunch of mediocre films leading towards one big mediocre one.

This is a film i was really looking forward to.

For what it's worth I enjoyed the fim as much as I enjoyed the first Ironman.

It's not in the ballpark with Batman begins, or The Dark Knight. But, it is a very enjoyable film. I for one didn't think it should have had a PG13 rateing. But, oh well. PG would have been fine.

Everyone arguing about this in here is too close to the material and is shows. Whenever a film is in the rotten it's forum is brisk with talk of critics and critical agenda. (that's the only stat that matters as far as I'm concerned.)

I've also noticed that everyone that hates the film went in wanting too, while everyone that loves it went in wanting too. People that went in on the fence, indifferent or with mixed feelings probably come out that way. And thus the majority score is exactly where it is.

This will also be reflected when SHH puts the poll up on the main page. There are so many of these films out now that we all behave the way comic book fans do. If the best Spiderman comic is written tomorrow it will get mixed reviews because at this point the fans have picked their sides.

I think people are looking silly by causing a fuss at this point, it happens every time.

Btw the GL score was much lower than it deserved considering the company it keeps in the twenty percentile. Moreover, the divide between the TF audience approval vs it's critical one means something is wrong with the system if only a little bit considering the critics are supposed to serve the audience opinion not tell them which films they want them to see. I ask who cares what this group of people think? There about as important as a group of people that meet for coffee every morning. Just watch the movie on your own time and if it's good it will find an audience and you'll see more. If it's not good it won't.

man I can't wait to see this all again next year except on overdrive, every project is a fan passion monster.

God I do not envy the insane ***** storm the first critic to give The Avengers a negative review will get.

saw it last night and It was good but I think for marvel films anyway robert downey jr set the bar too high to live up to in terms of owning the role and commanding the audiences attention in every scene. Ed norton came kinda close in incredible hulk. I wouldnt be surprised if it makes around what thor did in total revenue. Anyone have a good gauge on how much steam harry potter still has?

Unlike Thor or Captain America, critics will go into the Avengers with some very real expectations given the build up. There's no doubt it'll have to be something special, a real game-changer or else they'll be much harsher.
