The Official Doc Savage Thread

I really need to get some Doc books....Doc what was the name of the book with the hooded men with spears standing behind Doc in the art ?

What's this from Showy ?

Ok...obviously I am knew to the whole Doc Savage world, I didn't realize the previous movie explored the mystery behind his father's death. I think I want to avoid anything to do with that.

Most Doc fans are not big fans of the Ron Ely movie. Even though it dealt with the mystery of his father's death....I believe I can freely say that they would like to see a new and better retelling of the story. And the fact that the movie is over 30 years old makes it perfect for being remade to introduce it to a new audience.

You know what, I really can't remember. It's by a particular artist I believe, last name with a W? It was for sale.

That was "Death in Silver".

That makes me feel better, because I would really like to explore that story. I think it provides emotion and I think it would fit well with an orgin to explore that arc. I wouldn't want to spend time working on something, and then realizing it doesn't resonate with fans. I am definately going to do my homework and put my time in on this project. I have a small window of opportunity here to get it out. Any details or elements fans of Doc like yourself, would want included, would help immensely. Whether it's certain lines, sequences, or plot points.

The only Doc Savage comic I own...

Though I have read many of the pulp novels with the Bama covers in French as a kid.

:yay:

Heh Heh. That must be from when Marvel did some of the Savage comics, in the 70's I believe? C. Lee?

Well.....first of all....are you planning to write a novel or a screenplay? The first Doc Savage book "The Man of Bronze" is all about him and the gang going to Central America to investigate Doc's Dad's death. So, it has been explored in book form. It's been used in the movie too....but people are more apt to watch a retelling of a story than read a new novel about it....in my opinion of course.

What are the premises of those two?

spook Legion was about crooks using invisiblity to steal millions from all over the country and for Monsters it was about huge giant men created to terrorize and steal stuff.

Meteor Menace might be a good movie, it's about a criminal having the means to travel faster then any plane in the world thanks to a orb shapped meteor or Roar Devil about a crook with the means to create earthquaks

Yep....those are good too.

Death In Silver is a good story but if they do a movie like that I think some people would think the silver men looks too much like KKK idiots

I am outlining ideas for a feature length script. Screenwriting is something I am familiar with and comfortable with, I could never write a novel at this point because it wouldn't be something I would enjoy. The Man of Bronze is what I have been doing some research on, and I wanted to tell an origin story leading into the Man of Bronze tale if possible content wise. I am not sure if the Man of Bronze novel features an origin.

I like those two ideas as well, would look good on screen and read well in a script.

That is a very cool premise.

The Man of Bronze isn't an origin tale.....it's the first published adventure of Doc, and in it they mention being taught from childhood to be the best he can. It is primarily a telling of Doc's investigation into his father's death....and the the aquiring of the mass wealth he now has.

He was wealthy in the beginning....but after this adventure he becomes a mutimillionaire.

A movie that utilizes this portion of the novel (if done more from the novel than like the movie) would be a beautiful and awe inspiring. It deals with finding a valley with a villiage of still living Incans....with the Incan pyramids and all that. Filming this at one of the refurbished sites would be quite the spectacle.

Wow I love the idea of him pushing aside some tree branches or climbing up over a hill to find the Incan villiage.

Doc struggles up the side of the hill, the veins in his arm rise to the surface as he wills himself upward.

EXT. HILLTOP - CONT.

Doc reaches the top and collapses, exhausted.

(OS) VOICES

Doc picks his head up and strains, many voices echo up the side of the hill. He rises and looks down upon...

A FERTILE VALLEY

lined with GOLDEN PYRAMIDS. The sun bounces of the massive structures almost blinding Doc. People, hundreds of them, are going through their daily routines below.

DOC
The Mayans...

So far Metropolisman and I are leaning on going with Doc Savage's birth in the Bahamas for the opening sequence. Braving the storm on the ship and then the mother being lost at sea. I think it sets the tone of the script, high adventure and a father and son left to fend for themselves. It gets both story arcs going, the emotional arc and the action story.
