The Official Doc Savage Thread

Meteor Menace might be a good movie, it's about a criminal having the means to travel faster then any plane in the world thanks to a orb shapped meteor or Roar Devil about a crook with the means to create earthquaks

I like the Roar Devil story from what you've shortly stated about it here. Theres a comic convention going on here now and I'm going to check for some classic Doc Savage titles to pick up for research. Maybe an origin story would be a better way to start. Give him a fresh start on screen for many people who haven't heard of it.

The only Doc Savage comic I own...

Though I have read many of the pulp novels with the Bama covers in French as a kid.

:yay:
I looked through my stuff....I don't have that one.:csad:

I have all the other Marvel books....all but one of the DC books.....all the Dark Horse ones....all but one of the Millenium books....and the Gold Key one (2 copies:woot: ).

I've seen the French books on the net.....like you said, they use the Bama covers, but with some kind of border around the pic if I remember right.

Oh....and Showtime.....I don't know where my head was at....it's Mayans he meets in "The Man of Bronze"....not Incans.

Ahhhh, I got ya. Makes more sense.

I'll have to edit my little script snippit.

Those who use their imagination to tell stories and stretch the imaginations of others are all in the same league.

Cool I've found a new favorite hero besides Jason.

I actually think the Ron Ely film wasn't half bad, it actually caught the feel of early Doc stories.

I feel it was too campy. It needed to be more like Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The question is, should Metropolisman and myself watch this movie, or steer clear of it until we write the 1st draft?

What I do want is for those interested in a Doc Savage movie, is to give me sequences that they want to see in a film.

My buddy and writing partner Metropolisman, has been in attendence at Heroescon this weekend in Charlotte. He's been mingling with comic writers and artists and enjoying himself. I know he spoke with Jamal Ingle while there.

While there he came across a large amount of Doc Savage novels that he purchased for our reference:

1)The Man Who Shook The Earth
2)Fantastic Island
3)The Annihilatior
4)The Death In Silver

It has begun...

Yeah, I mentioned that earlier....but he wants to do a story covering his birth on to the first novel.

You should watch it.
True, but it was quite a bit before Raiders, it was around the time Ely was Tarzan in the seventies.
Oh, I know....I saw Doc at the theater.:woot: I was just referring to how I would have liked it to be.
I just don't want it to cloud my judgement while writing.
I don't think it will cloud anything....it might reveal what not to do.

1. Doc in the lab
2. Monk and Ham arguing
3. Criminals with Thompson sub machineguns
4. Empire State Building
5. Jungles (exotic locals)
6. Monk chasing beautiful dames
7. Hair raising escapes
8. Lots of sci fi

Be sure to read several to get the tone and nuances of the crew.

Well, I'm back from a great three day weekend at Heroes Con. I believe Wizard World: Philly was going on as well.

The turnout was fantastic, and a lot of great talent was showcased each day. DC Nations panel on Friday was a great experience and they shed some light on future projects and cleared up a few things going on with 52 and Countdown.

I bought a few things, and spent more money than I expected but its only one weekend a year, so its something like a new Christmas. I got a few issues of the Animal Man comics from 88 and beyond and can't wait to begin reading.

On my last day there, which was today, I stumbled upon a small box filled with Doc Savage novels. Showtime had asked me to look out for any Doc stuff and right as I was about to leave, there he was waiting on me.

Can't wait to dig into these stories. Keep us informed of what would translate well onto screen and what some of your favorite stories are.

Don't forget the ribbing Monk and Ham gives each other C Lee! Always gives me a chuckle how those two threaten to kill each other but they actually good friends-although neither would admit it :p

I will check it out then, is it available on DVD?

6. Monk chasing beautiful dames

All noted. Thank you for your suggestions, we will take them seriously when writing them, especially coming from you.

We will start with the four above, and whatever else we can get our hands on. Metropolisman is going to read them and then send them forward to me, meanwhile I will get my hands on some more titles.

From what I read of the reference material online, that is a big part of the stories and their rivalry spans decades.

Yep, Monk has a pet pig he named Habeas Corpus to irk Ham and Ham has a pet
chimp he named Chemistry. They each trained their pets to do pranks on each other
