Dragon Quest series creator accidentally shared news that Dragon Quest VII: Warriors of Eden and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King for 3DS are coming to western territories.
Reports are coming in from Twitter:

  • “Yuji Horii has just announced Dragon Quest VII and VIII will be released ‘in French’…?! Apparently a last minute announcement here at Japan Expo. Guess that means both titles at coming West on 3DS. I asked someone from Square Enix and it seems Horii dropping the bomb wasn’t planned.” (via @jkermarrec, 2)
  • “At Japan Expo, a few hours after our interview, Yuji Horii has confirmed here that Dragon Quest VII and VIII are coming ‘in French.'” (via @FFRing)
  • “Horii actually did mention 3DS for Dragon Quest VII and VIII localization. The translator got upset when he did.” (via @RedMakuzawa)
Of course, any bit mentioning only the French language is likely due to the announcement taking place at Japan Expo, which is in Paris, France. If it’s released in French, it will be released in English, as well.

Report: Dragon Quest VII And Dragon Quest VIII Remakes Being Localized. July 4, 2015 . 8:09am

Multiple sources are reporting that Yuji Horii has confirmed localized releases for Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest VIII at Japan Expo.

Following their interview with Yuji Horii at Japan Expo, Final Fantasy Ring are reporting that Horii let slip that Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest VIII for Nintendo 3DS will make it out of Japan “in French”. (Note that Japan Expo takes place in Paris.)

Meanwhile, MakuXV, an editor at Nova Crystallis, also claims that Horii mentioned a localized release for Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest VIII, and that his translator “got upset” when he did.

In the past, Square Enix said to Siliconera that they are open to the idea of publishing Dragon Quest VII outside Japan. (Dragon Quest VIII hadn’t been announced at the time.)

At the time, Dragon Quest mobile producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto stated: “We’ve gotten a lot of requests, we really want to do it, but right now, we need to hammer out what kind of resources we’d need to do it. We say this a lot, but, we can’t seem to get to the point where it’s justifiable.”

If today’s reports are to be believed, it appears Square Enix have seen sufficient feedback for them to consider localizing the Dragon Quest 3DS remakes. Bravely Default selling as well as it did probably didn’t hurt.

Weekly Jump to have latest Dragon Quest scoops for five straight issues

DQ-Scoops-Jump-Five-Weeks.jpg

For the next five weeks of Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, starting from the July 6 issue, which leaked last week, and running through the August 3 issue, each issue will have the latest scoop on the Dragon Quest series, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2016, the magazine announced in a press release.
That, of course, includes new details on Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King for 3DS, but also other “fan must-see scoop(s),” too.
Here are all of the “Weekly Shonen Jump x Dragon Quest” issues. It’s worth noting that the contents of Jump magazine usually leak on Thursday mornings (ET), four days in advance of its planned release date.

  • Weekly Jump Issue 32 – July 6 (leaked on July 2) – Included Dragon Quest VIII for 3DS box art, a new dungeon and boss, and teased a “big title” that will surprise you in the following week’s issue.
  • Weekly Jump Issue 33 – July 13 (should leak on July 9)
  • Weekly Jump Issue 34 – July 18 (should leak on July 16)
  • Weekly Jump Issue 35 – July 27 (should leak on July 23)
  • Weekly Jump Issue 36 – August 3 (should leak on July 30)
Outside of Dragon Quest VIII for 3DS, Dragon Quest XI is known to be in development—although not much is known about it other than that it’s for home console, offline, and will return to the series’ traditional mechanics. Dragon Quest Heroes II is also in the works for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita, which we haven’t heard from it since its April announcement.

The upcoming 3DS version of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King adds a new dungeon and boss monster.
The entrance to the new, small cave dungeon suddenly appears in a certain area of the game. The heroes, of course, are there to witness the surprise development.
Within the dungeon is an ominous red poison swamp. Many corpses tell of the dungeon’s horrors.
The new boss monster is named Jahagaros, a sealed demon monster who has been waiting for a group of heroes strong enough to reach the depths of the cave. Everything about Jahagaros is wrapped in mystery. Its true colors is something you’ll have to discover for yourself by playing the game.

Alright, so at this point, I think it might be time to close this thread down. I'm looking at the last few pages, and I don't think there's been any actual DQX news (like actual news news and not just speculation or talk about DQX) since August of last year. All of the recent news has been about the remakes of DQVII and VIII, and DQX hasn't shown any signs of coming west-side. If someone wants to create some kind of general purpose Dragon Quest thread in multi, that's fine, and I'm sure we'll have room for a DQXI thread whenever it gets announced, but I just don't see any point to this thread now, especially since only zenith has posted in for the better part of a year and, to my knowledge, we have no Japanese posters, I don't see why we need to keep it going.

If actual news comes out about DQX, I'll reopen this, but as of now there's nothing to report I don't think.

ok so it was stated the in the former thread that was just close &n was being used as the thread for nintendo at least these titles were headed west til we hear about XI these two titles are in deed head to the Nintendo 3d's

Dragon Quest VIII’s Photo Mode Has Players Track Down Rare Monsters And Hidden Items. July 22, 2015 . 10:30am

Dragon Quest VIII
has a new feature that lets players take photos inside the game’s world. Pressing the start button switches the game into camera mode. Players can move the camera around using the slide pad, zoom in or out with the shoulder buttons and press A to take a picture. Photos can be saved on a SD card and exchanged with other players through Streetpass.
Square Enix also made new Photo Quests in Dragon Quest VIII. At the beginning of the game you’ll meet Fort, a photographer who gives players quests and a notebook to keep track of them. You can earn stamps by completing quests and if you get enough stamps you’ll earn rewards.

Some quests have players take photos of landmarks in Dragon Quest VIII’s world.

Other quests have players search for hidden items like this gold slime, which is behind a stack of boxes.

Fort may ask players to take photos of rare monsters too.

Or you can skip the quests and take photos just for fun. Players can capture a sunset or characters interacting with each other. If you fulfill certain requirements you can take special poses too.

ok so I'm not sure where this will end up. It could be for more then one console or an exclusive if it end's up the latter well that and bulder will have a new thread, I guess. If it's on two different consoles or more XI will be here in this thread.
I need to figure where builders should be after this . But it won't have it's own thread.
Even if it's taking a mine craft approach .

Rumor: Dragon Quest XI To Be Announced Next Week. July 24, 2015 . 6:51am

A Wall Street Journal Japan reporter tweeted that a letter of invitation from Square Enix states that it will be “a new title from the main Dragon Quest series.”

We previously reported that Square Enix are to announce a brand new Dragon Quest title in a presentation this coming Tuesday, on July 28th. A Wall Street Journal Japan reporter tweeted that a letter of invitation from Square Enix states that it will be “a new title from main Dragon Quest series.”

According to Wall Street Journal’s Tokyo tech reporter Takashi Mochizuki, they’ve received a letter of invitation from Square Enix for the event that will take place this Tuesday where a new Dragon Quest title is expected to be announced.

The letter states: “a new title from the main Dragon Quest series for the first time in three years.” Keep in mind that even though Dragon Quest X is an MMORPG, it was released in 2012 and it’s considered part of the main-numbered series.

The invitation also states that they’ll have more details on other Dragon Quest titles during the event. However, details such as platforms weren’t mentioned on the letter.

Again, we’ll take this by the grain of salt for the time being, and will have more details once they become available. The Dragon Quest event will take place on July 28, 2015.

Mochizuki notes that there’s no information about platforms in the invitation.

The latest main Dragon Quest, the online game Dragon Quest X, launched for Wii in 2012. Wii U and PC versions later followed.

Official announcement due tomorrow morning.
Gematsu has uncovered the official logo for Dragon Quest XI, which is set to be announced at tomorrow’s Dragon Quest New Title Press Conference.

The low-res image makes the subtitle hard to read, but it looks like it says, “過ぎ去りし時を求めて,” or “In Search of Departed Time.”
Additionally, we’ve unearthed the logo for an unannounced Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Scanner, which we’re guessing is some sort of smartphone game:

Logo-Leaks_07-27-15_002.jpg

Both logos are located on the official Dragon Quest website. They correspond to news stories that will be made tomorrow following the event. We’ve included links to additional logos for news stories that should also come out of tomorrow’s event:

You’ll notice a skip between images 1400 and 1403. Images 1401 and 1402 are just Dragon Quest Portal App-related updates. Nothing is uploaded past 1405.

DQ8-3DS_07-27-15.jpg

The latest set of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King for 3DS screenshots introduce the game’s StreetPass element.
Get the details below.
Personalizing Photos
You can personalize the photos you take in Camera Mode with stamps, frames, and various arrangements. You can alter your stamp’s size and angle to your liking.
Change Clothes
There were additional costumes in the original game, but the 3DS version significantly increases the costume lineup. Of course, you can use these costumes to take even nicer pictures.
StreetPass Photo Postcards
When you’ve finished customizing your photos, you can exchange them with friends via StreetPass. Exchanging photos is easy. After selecting the one you’d like to send to everyone, you can add a message and create a “Postcard.” If someone else has also set a postcard, you’ll automatically exchange postcards when you pass them. You can also see how your postcards have been evaluated (“Interesting,” “Pretty,” “Surprising”), as well as how many times it’s been passed around. Based on this, you can receive rewards like items or additional photo arrangements.
Internet Photo Postcards
In addition to sharing photo postcards via StreetPass, you can also share them via the internet.
Additionally, you’ll also get a look at the game’s alchemy element, casino, and Monster Arena. Unlike the original PS2 release, items created via alchemy in the 3DS version are completed immediately upon putting in materials, and there are tons of new items. The Monster Arena adds a new rank and new scoutable monsters.
Dragon Quest VIII is due out for 3DS in Japan on August 27.

Dragon Quest XI is directed by Takeshi Uchikawa and produced by Yosuke Saito with music by Koichi Sugiyama. Both the PlayStation 4 and 3DS versions share the same story, but differ in visuals and partially in development teams.

Here’s the main character:

The differences between both versions are outlined below:

Dragon Quest XI’s First 3DS Footage Shows Its 2D And 3D Styles. July 28, 2015 . 6:25am

Players will get to switch between a modern 3DS-style for battles, or go with a more old school Super Famicom 2D appearance for the fights.

Square Enix revealed that Dragon Quest XI is in development for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS. While the PS4 version has impressive graphics using the Unreal Engine 4, the 3DS version also has its own unique touch, with a mix of 2D and 3D graphics in two screens.

The top screen shows more of a modern Nintendo 3DS-style look for Dragon Quest XI, while the bottom screen depicts the game in 2D, similar to the older Super Famicom era Dragon Quest titles.

Unlike the PlayStation 4 version, Dragon Quest XI’s characters on 3DS have been remade to have a super-deformed look. As far as battles go, you’ll see the monsters walking around on the top screen as part of its symbol encounter system, while it’ll show up as random encounter.

Additionally, players will get to switch to a 2D mode for battles, as shown at the 2:45 mark, where you can see the top screen have more of an older Dragon Quest look to it.

At the 3:58 mark, they show what the events look like on the screens. Just like the rest of the game, you can see the newer style on the top screen and the older style on the bottom. In case you’d like to get a good look at both versions without missing anything, the game will let you revisit scenes to check them out again.

Dragon Quest XI is in development for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4.

Dragon Quest XI’s First PS4 Footage Shows Town And Field Exploration. July 28, 2015 . 7:35am

Dragon Quest XI’s first PlayStation 4 footage takes us on a little tour of a town and shows us how you’ll get to explore even the highest parts on top of the buildings.

Square Enix announced Dragon Quest XI for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS during their livestream event, where we got a first look at the newest title of Dragon Quest’s main series. The above video shows footage from the PS4 version of the game.

The video starts with a look at the protagonist of Dragon Quest XI, and they proceed to give us a tour of the town. The footage shows us the inside of an inn. In Dragon Quest XI, you’ll get to break barrels and pots, and also check drawers. You’ll also get to jump in the game.

You’ll get to see quite the distance in the game, including NPCs that appear in faraway backgrounds. Square Enix are aiming to make their world and its people livelier than ever.

Elevation is another big difference, as you can reach the higher areas of town, which will be a first in Dragon Quest. There will be occasions where you’ll want to explore the higher parts of town in order to find hidden treasures.

At the 4:28 mark, we get to see a little bit of the field exploration. The water and lighting effects are some of the parts that Square Enix are placing importance into, as they develop the game. Monsters will show up in symbol encounter-style, meaning you’ll see them out in the field before engaging in battle.

Towards the end of the video, we get to see the entrance of a cave. Dragon Quest XI will have its traditional dungeons such as caves, towers, labyrinths, and mountain paths. These dungeons will have all kinds of new and different gimmicks that are being brainstormed at the moment.

Dragon Quest XI is in development for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.

Dragon Quest XI On 3DS Won’t Simultaneously Play In 3D And 2D For The Entire Game. July 30, 2015 . 8:11am
Dragon Quest XI on Nintendo 3DS will let you play in both 3D and 2D; however, you’ll have to switch between the styles later on in the game

We got a first look at Dragon Quest XI for Nintendo 3DS recently, and the footage showed the game played in a newer 3D style on the top screen and an older 2D style on the bottom. This week’s issue of Jump magazine says it won’t be like that for the entire game. [Thanks, Game Jouhou.]

According to the magazine report, the part of the game that shows 3D on the top screen and 2D in on the bottom screen, as shown during the demonstration footage, is only like that for the opening stages of the game.

Later on after its opening stages, you’ll have to select which style to play, but you’ll also get to switch between its 3D and 2D styles at any time.

Dragon Quest XI: first interview with Yuji Horii translated
Published 4 hours ago. 19 comments.

Creator discusses his role, the logo, platforms, and more.

The August 3 issue of Weekly Jump, which leaked yesterday, features the first interview with Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii on Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time following its reveal earlier this week.
During the brief interview, Horii discusses his role on the game, its theme, the Dragon Quest I-esque logo, the platform choice, and more.
We’re providing the transcript in both English and Japanese.
Interview

Please tell us your role in Dragon Quest XI, Mr. Horii.

Horii: “I took on a supervisor-like role starting with Dragon Quest X, but I’m back on the scene in full force for Dragon Quest XI. I’m really shepherding it from start to finish, beginning with scenario creation. I want to also be involved in the final optimizations of the battles, etc.”

What’s the theme of this game’s story?

“This time it’s also the 30th anniversary of Dragon Quest, and we have the subtitle “In Search of Departed Time.” We’re putting a heavy emphasis on that 30th anniversary. The story itself has the theme of “time.” So, we’re hoping that people who have followed the series all along will have that sense of nostalgia, and that new players will have a sense of fun and excitement. The same may be said of the supported platforms. It’s already been announced, but Dragon Quest XI will be released on two: PlayStation 4 and 3DS. Furthermore, on 3DS, we you can enjoy both 2D and 3D. You can choose to play in either old pixel-style 2D graphics or fleshed-out 3D. Of course, you can switch [between modes] in the middle of the game, as well. Including the leading edge PlayStation 4, with 2D, quasi-3D [Editor’s Note: he’s talking about the chibi 3D from the 3DS version], and full 3D, we’re giving you various types of Dragon Quest so you can follow its historical evolution.”

You guys also revealed the logo…

“The logo gives off the impression that we’re turning back to Dragon Quest I, but the dragon in the background is actually facing in the opposite direction from the Dragon Quest I logo. It’s been a long time since we had the number behind the title, as well. [Editor’s Note: The last Dragon Quest title to have the number behind the logo was Dragon Quest III.] In many ways, it is a sign that we’re returning to our origins, while still evolving. It takes the idea of Dragon Quest I, but we’re beginning anew with Dragon Quest XI.”

What’s the reason you’ve chosen to make Dragon Quest XI for these two platforms?

“Well, we knew we wanted as many people as possible to be able to play it. We’d like people to be able to really settle in and play on a console, but at the same time it was great to have so many people playing Dragon Quest IX when it came out on a handheld, so we were really torn over which system to put it on. In the end, we just said, ‘Well, why don’t we just make it for both platforms?!’ and kicked off the project. We thought about what style would be best for each platform, and the results are what we have now. It’s pretty interesting that you can play the latest game in 2D pixel form, right? Of course, you can fully enjoy the story of Dragon Quest XI even in this mode.”

When do you think the game will be released?

“We’re working hard with the goal to release it before the Dragon Quest 30th anniversary year ends, so please look forward to it.”

What other things are in store for the 30th anniversary?

“Actually, we’ve been planning a lot of events. Most of it still has to be kept secret, but I want to stir up even more excitement than the 25th anniversary. We’re thinking about various projects, and a lot of games are coming out, so please look forward to the future of Dragon Quest.”

Comments

Horii on the PlayStation 4 Version
“The beautiful images, the sense of space… it’s all just amazing. For example, you can clearly see people and monsters who are still way off in the distance. The idea is to give players the sense that the world is there, and in motion.”

Horii on the 3DS Version
“At the start of the adventure, there will be 2D classic events on the bottom screen, and 3D events that unfold on the top screen. Taking full advantage of Nintendo 3DS’s capabilities, we’re pursuing a sense of fun that is unique to Nintendo 3DS.”

Horii on the Protagonist
“His background and everything has already been decided, but…the full details are still secret (laughs). But…he’s a cool hero, you know. You have Toriyama-sensei’s design, so use your imagination.”

Published 1 min ago. 0 comments.
Another new post-game dungeon confirmed.

The 3DS version of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King will add a new ending, the latest issue of Jump magazine reveals.
How the game ends is unknown, but here are some hints (potential spoilers, of course): “surprise developments,” “an angry King Clavius,” and “a sad protagonist.”
Additionally, after clearing the game, there is another new, still unknown dungeon to be explored. This dungeon, dubbed the “Ultimate Trial,” will feature “Purple Treasure Chests.”
Thanks, Kazu4281.

Dragon Quest XI’s First Screenshots Show More Of The PS4 And 3DS RPG. August 12, 2015 . 8:24am

Square Enix revealed the first screenshots for Dragon Quest XI: In Search of the Departed Time, that show us a closer look at the upcoming game on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.

Square Enix revealed the first screenshots for Dragon Quest XI: In Search of the Departed Time, that shows us a closer look at the upcoming game on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.

Starting with a look at the PlayStation 4 version of the game:

Here’s what the field looks like on PlayStation 4, where you’ll see different scenery and monsters in the areas.

The town appears to be surrounded by castle walls. There are homes shown in irregular parts on the walls, I wonder what that could be about.

Here’s a look at the town area from a higher perspective. You’ll get to walk around in all the parts shown in the screenshot, even across ropes.

The battle screen shows us a some familiar monsters. As for the battle system, it’s in the traditional turn-based format, with symbol encounters, meaning you’ll see the monsters on the field prior to starting the battles.

Next up, is a look at the 3DS version of the game:

The above shows a look at the more modern 3DS style on the top screen, along with the old school 2D style on the bottom.

Here’s what it looks like when you’re in town for both styles.
