Square Enix The Official Dragon Quest Thread

Dragon Quest XI for 3DS has 2D and 3D modes for the battles as well.

The events also have their own unique looks in both modes. As previously reported, Dragon Quest XI on 3DS won’t concurrently play in 2D and 3D throughout the entire game, and it’ll only be that way for the opening stages of the game. Afterwards, you’ll get to select which style to play, and can change between 3D and 2D styles at any time.

Dragon Quest XI is in development for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.

Dragon Quest VIII for 3DS screenshots introduce post-ending story
Published 18 mins ago. 3 comments.

"A certain secret" about the protagonist revealed.

DQ8-3DS_08-12-15.jpg

The 3DS version of Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King won’t end after the game’s main story is cleared. There will be an post-ending story that unlocks after you clear the main story.
Details on the new story are slim as to avoid spoilers, but according to Square Enix, it will reveal “a certain secret” related to the protagonist.
Screenshots show the protagonist standing in front of a door, beyond which this new story begins. There’s also an unfamiliar town where there appears to be no sign of life, suggesting there was some sort of incident.
After discovering a mysterious stairway, the protagonist will come across an unknown foursome of monsters, who fuse together to become a single monster of overwhelming strength.
Furthermore, within a dungeon, you’ll encounter a huge dragon that claims itself to be the Dragon God Sovereign (voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda). A “shocking truth” will be revealed after the fight, and the protagonist will not hide his astonishment.
This is unrelated to the new ending first teased in Jump magazine last week. Rather, it appears to be part of that “Ultimate Trial” dungeon with “Purple Treasure Chests” that opens up after clearing the game.
Dragon Quest VIII is due out for 3DS in Japan on August 27.

Dragon Quest Builders Is A Lot Like Minecraft But Has Plenty Of Its Own Charm
. September 19, 2015 . 6:00am

Dragon Quest Builders might look a lot like Minecraft or Terraria, but the game has plenty of its own Dragon Quest charm. Square Enix demonstrated what it’s like during Tokyo Game Show 2015.

Dragon Quest Builders
might look a lot like Minecraft or Terraria, but the game has plenty of its own Dragon Quest charm. Square Enix demonstrated what it’s like during their stage event at Tokyo Game Show 2015.

  • The goal of Dragon Quest Builders is to recapture and revive Alefgard that has been taken over by the Dragonlord.

  • You can get material by simply attacking the ground or branches.
=

  • Defeating a Slime will score you a “Blue Oil” drop.

  • You can then combine the Blue oil and a “Thick Branch” to make a “Torch.”

  • Similar to Minecraft or Terraria, there’s a hunter meter as well as an HP meter. When your hunter meter empties out, it’ll start chipping away from your health.
=

  • By making a building that is at least two blocks tall, adding a door and torch to it will make it into a “house.”

  • By meeting certain requirements, the name of your house changes. For example, placing a Straw Bed in an empty room makes it into a “Bedroom with Straw Bed.”

Last edited:

  • Once you expand into a base, you’ll have residents appear. Having residents around will be very useful, as they’ll do things like make items for you on the workbench.

  • You can use a bird’s-eye view to get a look at your surroundings.

  • It get pretty dark at night, so you’ll need a torch or some sort of light source. This is currently still under development.

  • Sleeping in a bed will automatically change the time to morning, and it’ll also recover your HP.

  • You can build a waterway to your base, which will come in handy for growing crops on a field.

  • Chimaeras drop items called “Chimaera Feathers,” which can be crafted into “Chimaera Wing” (or Warpwing) items.

  • While exploring, you’ll find random NPCs living in their own homes. You’ll get to interact with them, and have them move into your base or town.
  • The maps are said to be pretty huge.
  • You can equip multiple weapons at once, and simple rotate through them accordingly to your situation.

  • Weapons also have their own characteristics. For example, the “Wooden Hammer” can destroy rocks.

  • Building a house will score you some points. Once you get enough points, your base will level up, and you’ll get to build even more things.

  • You can stack blocks to make buildings in higher areas. The demonstration showed the player making an inn high above the ground.

  • However, keep in mind that falling from high areas can result in death. Whenever your character dies, it’ll penalize you by making you drop some of your items. You can always go back to the spot to pick them up again.

Dragon Quest Builders details collection, creation, and construction
Published 10 hours ago. 24 comments.

New screenshots of the upcoming block-making RPG.
Square Enix has released a new set of Dragon Quest Builders information and screenshots, detailing the block-making RPGs three main elements: collection, creation, and construction.
Get the information below.
■ The Three C’s
Dragon Quest Builders is a “block-making RPG,” the first of its kind. In it, everything you see can be made into raw materials, which you can use to make a variety of items, and demolish, build, and remodel towns. It is a sandbox-style game where players can act on their own accord, while at the same time possessing the story and RPG elements that the Dragon Quest series is known for.
In order to revive a desolated world and the towns once home to the people, the game’s protagonist must use his special power to rebuild. Three elements will be required to do this:
Collection
You’ll need materials in order to build, which you can collect by breaking terrain or defeating monsters.

DQB_09-28-15_001.jpg

Creation
Some of the materials you acquire will be ready to use from the get-go, but by applying some additional treatment, you can create entirely new items.

DQB_09-28-15_002.jpg

Construction
With your created items in hand, you can start constructing buildings.

DQB_09-28-15_003.jpg

■ Blueprints
Items known as a “Blueprints” let anyone put together a building easily according to what’s outlined in the design. Of course, you’re not limited to Blueprints—you can also freely create buildings to your own liking.

DQB_09-28-15_004.jpg
■ Monsters
In the world ruled by the Dragonlord, a number of monsters are wandering the field. Monsters that appeared in Dragon Quest I will appear, of course, but so will monsters from across the series. This includes Slimes, Ghosts, Bunicorns, and so on. Monsters might also try to prevent your reconstruction of a town through monster raids.

DQB_09-28-15_005.jpg

Dragon Quest Builders will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Japan on January 28. If you missed the opening movie, catch it here. Watch 18 minutes of gameplay here.

Dragon Quest Builders Footage Shows How To Craft, Build, And Revive Alefgard. October 12, 2015 . 4:30am

Square Enix shared the latest gameplay footage for Dragon Quest Builders during a recent event,
where we get to see more of the game’s crafty town-making action.
During a recent event for Dragon Quest X, Square Enix had a little Dragon Quest Builders session, where they showed off the early stages of the game and how you’ll continue through the story by building and taking on quests.

[YT]Qkm1J_MyY3M[/YT]

The footage starts at the 1:27 mark of the video, where we can see the player as the female protagonist. They start out with some of the basics such as movement, breaking blocks, and placing them.

Unlike Minecraft and other similar building games, there will be helpful NPCs around to help guide you in your building adventures. They’ll also have various requests to fulfill as well. The footage shows the player fixing up a home for the NPC.

Using the material gathered, you’ll build or reconstruct towns. Once you run out of material, you’ll need to head out to the fields to get more materials to continue making more items.

The player is shown making a proper home, which requires a torch and bed. After creating an item that is needed for the request, the NPC will come running towards you to advance through the quest.

As you go through various quests, you’ll get new requests that will reward you with new recipes. This is how you’ll go through the game and learn how to make more items as you revive the lands of Alefgard.

Dragon Quest Builders will release in Japan on January 28, 2016 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

Unique Characters

DQB_10-19-15_004.jpg

By listening to what the people living in the game world have to say, you can get hints that help in reviving the town. These are important characters that will become guides on your adventure.
Rolondo is the bearded and dignified son of the former mayor of Merkid. What’s written in the “Merkid Record” book he possesses will apparently help in the town’s revival.
Prinn is a girl overlooking the town’s reconstruction. She’ll present the hero with a variety of requests.
You’ll also come across characters left behind in monster dens. You can drive away the monsters, save them, and bring them back to town.

Gather the Masses

Dragon Quest Builders details town, experience

Plus, watch today's "Extracurricular Lesson" live stream.

DQB_10-30-15.jpg

Square Enix has released a new set of Dragon Quest Builders details and screenshots, specifically introducing the town and how you’ll gain experience and level up within it.
Get the information below.
Town
The town is the protagonist’s base. Here, he’ll construct buildings and level up. If he levels up, he can learn new recipes for making items and further the town’s development.
Experience Points
There are three requirements to construct a building: “enclosing a building by at least two levels of blocks,” “providing lighting (such as torches),” and “placing a door.” You’ll gain experience points for simply constructing a building, but by fussing over the interior…
Camp Gauge
When the Camp Gauge reaches its maximum point, you’ll level up. You’ll obtain different values of experience based on the items you place, so try placing a variety of items.
Recipes
Not only can you level up the town, but by talking to villagers when you’ve obtained specific materials, you can learn new recipes. Exploring all over is the key to unlocking new recipes.
Using recipes, you can make items such as the “Storage Chest,” in which you can store created items, or the “Signpost,” a regular item of the Dragon Quest series.
Villagers
In Dragon Quest Builders, by developing the town and rescuing scattered villagers, more and more people will inhabit the town. To make their lives easier, they’ll ask the protagonist for various requests. By taking on these requests, the protagonist will be granted various rewards. Additionally, villagers will help fight off monsters when the town is invaded.
Dragon Quest Builders will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Japan on January 28.

Square Enix has released a new set of Dragon Quest Builders details and screenshots, introducing equipment and the game’s first boss battle.
Get the information below.
■ Equipment and More
The materials you create on your adventure will allow you to make various recipes and items to benefit the world’s revival. You’ll also be able to create familiar Dragon Quest series equipment to attach to your character, including weapons, armor, shields, and equipment. You can equip up to five things at once, and they’ll be reflected visually on your character, as well.
Some of the recipes you can learn to make new items can be obtained by handling requests from monsters.
Initially, you’ll use your equipment to break down the terrain (for material). But the terrain you can break down varies based on the weapon you’re using, so you should test out various weapons. For example, the “Big Hammer” is best for breaking down stone, while the “Stone Axe” is best for breaking down trees.
You’ll learn special skills as you progress through the story, including attacks with wide range that you can use not only to battle monsters, but to break down a large part of the terrain at once.
■ Big Bosses
The first boss battle you’ll encounter is in Merkid against the Golem enemy. He’ll slam down his fists and throw large rocks that endanger the town. You can set traps for the Golem to activate. At times, he’ll break his posture and fall to the floor, opening your opportunity to attack.
Dragon Quest Builders will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Japan on January 28.

Introducing Dragon Quest Builders' second continent.

DQ-Builders_11-25-15.jpg

Square Enix has released a new set of Dragon Quest Builders details and screenshots, introducing the game’s second continent, Rimuldar.
Get the information below.
■ Continents
There are a number of continents in the world of Dragon Quest Builders. And several regions are present in each. Since the monsters and material that appear change by region, you’ll make new discoveries even by exploring the same continent. You can make preparations for your journey in town before departing. You can freely go back and forth between each region using the “Travel Gate.”
The Monsters of Merkid
You’ll encounter several monsters in the first continent, Merkid. In the Grasslands, you’ll encounter monsters like Slimes, Dracky, and Chimeras. In the Mountains, you’ll encounter Hammerhoods, She-slimes, and such. In the Desert, you’ll find Scorpions and Bunicorns. And in the Mines, you’ll find Rockbombs and Golems.
Towards a New Continent
After repelling the monsters and bringing peace to the town, you can move forward towards the next continent.
■ Rimuldar
After restoring the light in Merkid, the hero heads for Rimuldar. In this land, due to “a certain pathogen” spread by monsters in the past, an illness has plagued the continent. To treat the disease, you’ll help a nun named Elle build a hospital. The land’s only doctor is an “Old Doctor Gen,” who might know a cure for the illness. People awaiting help are scattered about Rimuldar. You’ll bring them back to town for treatment in the hospital.
There’s also a training dojo set up by some monsters.
■ Monsters of Rimuldar
Some of the monsters that inhabit Rimuldar include the Scarewolf, Caterpillar, and Walking Corpses.
Dragon Quest Builders will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Japan on January 28.
