I kinda like Barry's wally's is tooo, chinsey. I love how Wally's daughter is running though... very Beano lmao.
I wonder if Van Sciver has ever seen anyone run. It doesn't seem like an unfair question given the pics I'm seeing from Rebirth...

apparently, when Van Sciver runs, he throws his arms over his head. like all people obviously do.

I'm gonna link corps question to him, he has replyed to someone being a smart ass before, i'm sure he'll do it again.

He posts over on the GLC forums, and the art isn't that weird.

I mean, we're assuming they're running faster than we can see, and when you run you move your hands/arms...so of course drawing someone mid run is going to look awkward, let alone like 9 of them on the same page.

Go run around outside for a while and see if you ever crook your arm over your head like Wally is. Or see if your foot ever hits the ground the way Iris' is. It's not like artists haven't been drawing the Flash mid-run for decades already. They look silly the way Van Sciver drew them.

But you're right, it's not a big deal. Just something a few of us have noticed. Clearly, it's not bothering the vast majority of comic readers, who are still buying Rebirth in droves.

The art is the saving grace IMO because the DCU doesnt need Barry back, and only old ****s like kuribloodystoolisoua wanted him back.

But I was burned out on wally. He had a good ending in his run with the whole wife thing and undoing of the miscarrage and they brought him back too soon. He was happy with his family. He had a Jack Knight kind of send off. Bring him back in ten years. But after they admitted they ****ed up with Bart, they rushed him and his ****** kids back and tried to turn his book into the Incredibles.

I thought running iwth your arms above your head was fleeing.

VanSciver is obviously dramatizing their motions, but his art is incredible.

tbh, i'm not that much of a fan. i think his anatomy is off most of the time.

I would, but I can't run faster than the speed of light.

Why would that matter? In the DC universe, running is running. The Speed Force negates any wind resistance or other things that might impede the speedsters, so they're effectively just running normally at a much faster rate.

I agree 100%. But clearly Van Sciver brings in the money, so I'm sure we'll see more of his art on top assignments in the future.

evs on a bad day is far better than any of the benes any day

i remember noticing it not being uncommon in vansciver's drawings that the heads were a little small, but he's got much better at that. but other than that, he's generally really solid and does some incredible pencil work. i dunno, i connect with him a lot because i work in a very similar style.

I think he focuses on small details too much and neglects major things as a result. Compare the anatomy of Van Sciver's figures in action poses to that of Ivan Reis' figures, for example. Reis is a master of anatomy and knows how to draw a consistent human figure from all angles; Van Sciver does not.

Granted, Van Sciver's not a bad artist by any means. I just find all those anatomical errors and wonky poses to be so irritating that they hinder my enjoyment of his art.

still better than looking at benes art... or shane davis's art too... or ramon bachs

Benes you can rag on but Shane Davis? He is prolly one of the better up and comming artists in the biz, look at his Superman/Batman work for examples. He is great. Alot like Jim Lee with but he makes that style his own and much more fluid.

Something is very wrong with the world all of a sudden.

OK. Anyone who's seen my posts knows that Barry is my favorite Flash and that I think he is also the BEST Flash. You probably also know that I wanted him back for a longtime, and am glad DC has finally brought him back. But Flash: Rebirth....I mean I get they're establishing the characters for their roles/arcs for the next few years or so, so maybe it is really important that they do this (also trying to establish Barry's character, which I also get), but all I am saying is was the mini really necessary? I mean Barry seemed fine in final Crisis, even tho we didn't get much from his perspective. In fact, I preferred how he was written in Final Crisis to how Johns wrote him the first issue or two of Rebirth. It's just taken forever to come out and the story hasn't been worth the wait. I am sorry but it's true.....in my opinion anyway. the other thing that kinda bugs me is the retcon to Barry's background, I'm not sure why it was really necessary to have his mom killed by Zoom, that being the reason he went into forensics. It is interesting and it works, but at the same time isn't it kinda admitting that there was no "better" way (which I disagree with, BTW) to flesh out Barry's backstory than giving him a loved ones death, which is pretty much a cliche in any superhero story now? Don't get me wrong I prefer it to Wally West's stuff, especially his last stories :hehe: but still.....I dunno. For some reason I think I'd have been more comfortable with it immediately if it were done in the late eighties when DC rebooted Superman, Batman, etc, it would have fit in perfectly there. It's like Man of Steel but for Flash (I really loved Byrne's Supes, BTW, which is kinda funny). Hopefully Johns' Flash will get better once Rebirth is over. Barry in Blackest Night has been awesome, it's hard to believe that the same guy who wrote him in BN wrote him in FR (not that I am complaining). Anyway, anxious to read #6. I won't hold my breath though.

* Thawne messing with Barry's past but Barry still becoming a forensic scientist and The Flash reminds me a LOT of the new Star trek film, btw.

ivan reis is definitely the better artist, far more consistent. but, Van Sciver isnt far behind. i would say the two of them are some of the best artists in comics right now.
