I will not go into my problems with Johns as I do that far too much I know. So I'll keep my opinions to the issue at hand

Judged on its own merits, ignoring who the writer was I felt that the first issue just wasn't very good. At all. Nothing about it grabbed me and the 25th Century Rogues just feel like one of those ideas that would be better in a fanfic than an actual comic book

And the bit about Central City having the highest crime rate of any american city...I do hope that was just hyperbole on the characters part. Because in a universe that includes Gotham City that is just ridiculous.

I thought they said that it was Keystone with the high crime rate. And considering that Keystone is DC's version of Detroit, I can understand that.

No, it was definitely Central City, the city that Barry is in right now. I don't believe Keystone is mentioned at all in the issue. But like I said, they referred specifically to unsolved crimes, not crimes period, which isn't so big of a stretch.

The main problem you might have is that this is not the Flash from the TV show...that was Wally West, and a pretty young, irreverent version of him at that. This is Barry Allen, the Silver Age Flash, and his current characterization is a fairly serious guy who's kinda anal and not in the fun way of anal. That being said though, yes it's a pretty good jumping-on point even if you know nothing about the character.

Ah, I enjoyed the Flash of the TV show and that was the reason I was thinking of picking it up really. I may still give it ago but I'm leaning more to the no side rather than the yes at the moment if I'm honest...

amazing first issue!

lighthearted, fun, exciting, and just plain cool!

Geoff seems to be having fun with the always laid-back and cool Barry Allen!

This should be the tone of the flash series!Very different from Geoff's GL series.

I subscribed after finding out the first issue came out Wednesday. Can't wait to read it.

After thinking about it, I noticed that the key word here is "unsolved" crimes. Since Gotham has Batman, I can believe that almost all of their crimes get solved, even if they keep happening.

Put that way the statement does seem slightly less insane.

Bravo sir. Bravo:awesome:

Although JLU's Wally did also work in a crime lab. For like one episode. Which struck me as really weird, but I guess you don't necessarily have to be super-serious to be a competent forensic scientist.

Well Wally was shown to be surprisingly competent in the episode focusing on him. Flash and Substance I believe it was called, where we saw his Rogues gallery.

Yeah, but he always had the attention span of a gnat. It just seemed weird for him to be a police scientist. I liked the mechanic angle from the comics' "Ignition" more. Of course, Wally usually doesn't even have a job beyond being a superhero...

Look as CSI. They have that one kid with the blonde highlights and the "look at me Im so much younger than these people, I must be cool" attitude.

Right, 'cause CSI is the best a good a remotely valid representation of reality. ;)

Well, when you consider the fact that most people that become CSI's these days get their degree from various junior colleges, it actually is a distinct possibility.

All right, fine, Wally should've totally been a forensic scientist. Hell, he should've been president of the whole friggin' world. Happy now? :argh:

Well, when you consider the fact that George W. Bush got elected not just once but twice (but really only once), then yeah, he "should've" been president of the whole friggin' world. :o :)

does he still have a job as a police mechanic or what. I remember he was complaining about his money problems.

I like that Barry is the Flash and he isn't a total jerk. He is just more serious now. especially finding out that the villians are darker, friends like Elongated Man are dead and more, it's a suprised that he is able to make one joke.

I'll confess. I would have voted for the Justice League version of Wally. He would have put the "Party" in political party.

But not to run faster than a van for 99% of the cartoon's run. I love JL and JLU, but that still bugs me.
