(Quietly - I'd pay double price for the return of Max Mercury,... ESP if he can teach Barry Allen a thing or two.)
Don't be silly. All speedsters are ******s compared to Barry Allen. What, does Barry need listens in how to get old and die like a chump? Because if Barry needs lessons in that, then sure, Max can give him some lessons. I think you're forgetting that Barry Allen is THE GREATEST SUPERHERO THAT EVER EXISTED MMMM****NNNYESSSSSOHAGAAAAAAAAAAAAORgasmmmmm....

I was coming off Waid's run when I read the trades of Johns' work. So I'm not saying Wally was totally absent from the book, obviously, but I think it's pretty clear that Flash become less about Wally--or any of the speedsters Waid focused on--and more about the Rogues and the cities. I know some people liked that direction; I didn't.
I disagree a little ; I think it was about wally as a husband too. Cities, rogues, and husband. And I think the regular flash Rogues were under-used, so the G.Johns Run was a good thing for them and it was important to develop the identity of the cities. Nevertheless, I agree that it could have been more about the Flash himself. But too much hero is bad and too much of the villains is bad too. So, IMO, while I loved Johns run, I think it is complementary to the M.Waid's run.
Hey, but come on, more flash-centered issues and you would have seen a bunch of the hypers around here whining about how everything turns around the central hero. It would have been "allmighty Wally" here, "Jesus Flash" there , ...

Nah, those complaints don't come up until we have another legacy character to compare our favorite legacy-holder to. So when Barry comes back, then you'll start seeing the "almighty Barry" comments.
Has there been any information about Max Mercury returning? I thought I read that somewhere, but I might be mistaken.
I haven't heard that, but it wouldn't surprise me. His whole schtick is that he jumps into the future by brushing against the Speed Force. Last we saw him, the Rival (I think) had taken over his body and forced him to run into the Speed Force. He could've just wound up at a point in the future the comics haven't gotten to yet. Really easy out for his "death."

I thought that was Hal Jordan

No, Grant Morrison and Dan Didio are both on record saying that Barry Allen is the greatest superhero ever.

But you know what's nice? Even though Grant Morrison literally thinks that Barry Allen is the greatest superhero ever, he doesn't have to write Wally as a simpering ****weed, even when Wally is right next to Barry. Wonder of wonders, he actually writes Barry as needing help from Wally!

Geoff Johns, pay some ****ing attention.

Do you really think Johns would write Wally like that?

No, I haven't read any of Johns' Flash stuff (yet). I just heard it was good.

It's great. Maybe the best. But Rogues' Revenge also makes it very clear that Wally is a joke of a superhero, and that nobody ever respected him.

But no, Geoff Johns doesn't disrespect legacy characters. He loves Wally and Kyle!

You gleaned all that from a couple lines of dialogue.....?? I interpreted it a different way, but Potato Potahto....

I'm getting mixed signals here...
Signal one: Geoff Johns is a great writer, and his Flash is no exception.
Signal two: Geoff Johns clearly has no respect for Wally West, and he never did. That's a flaw in his otherwise very solid writing.

Mark Waid wrote the best Wally/Flash stories... (the first time around)...

:yay:

Signal three: Johns is not a good character writer, and his Flash run is just one example of that.

Signal four: I disagree. I do think he's a better villain writer in general than a hero writer, but he did excellent character work on the first JSA series. I really miss Jakeem Thunder and Sand. Maybe that one stands out in my mind because Johns is good at writing interpersonal relationships. The nature of Wally's relationship to the various Rogues, for example, was very well done.

Probably one of the more ridiculous things said here. This, coming from a not so big fan of Johns lately.

I dunno, the only time I really read anything concerning Barry Allen was in COIE and he sacrificed himself in an incredibly heroic way to where he deserves to be called on of the greatest superheroes ever. I'd still prefer Barry to be dead and Wally to be the main Flash though.

Yeah, that is pretty stupid. GAH worthy.

Me too. Even though they're both still on the team. :o

For the record, I'm with TMOB: Mark Waid's Flash run from the '90s is the best of all time to me. Johns came close, though. Even Morrison did well, handicapped as he was with Millar.

Yeah, because he's ****ing Mark Waid.
