Technically, the FF's Human Torch is as much a legacy to the original Human Torch as Hal is to Alan...

Change for the sake of regression is a pet peeve of mine.

mine as well

well DC wrote both Alan Scott and Jay Garrick into retirement....DC aged them....I can respect DC for having "legacy" characters....I don't think Marvel could pull it off...

Marvel doesnt have any sidekicks in the classic sense, I think Bucky was the only one and he has taken the legacy at the moment.

but its not to the extent that DC has it is my meaning.....I was skeptical about Barnes as Captain America but, for the world he lives in, he fits....that and he gets to bang Natasha...

Johnny made that title his own. Marvel did a damn good job of a legacy character.

Even when the android came back, Johnny's character wasn't phased.

Jealous DC Nation? :D

Well, there's no point lording it over DC's fans. Plenty of them dislike this regression nonsense, too. Tell it to DiDio and Johns, who are unable to just appreciate their nostalgia as nostalgia for whatever reason. They've gotta remake the DC universe after one of its creative highs into the same old stuff they knew as kids.

Plus, if it were in the same vein as Johnny and Jim, it wouldn't be so bad because neither of them have ever really been solo characters. One's a Fantastic Four mainstay and the other is an Invaders mainstay.

I was just being surly. However the Torch is a great case study. Does this mean that the JLA as a team really isn't as established as the FF / Invaders?

Also Jim had plenty of solo efforts.

Well I'd say the JLA is a little more like the Avengers than the FF/Invaders. FF/Invaders have had a much more stable lineup than JLA and Avengers, which are usually assorted with heavy hitters and B-list supporting characters. Superman is Superman, but Human Torch (Johnny Storm) is Human Torch of the Fantastic Four (if you get my drift)

None of them ever really took off. His greatest success as a character has come through teams--either the Invaders or the West Coast Avengers and the Heroes for Hire in later years. So, in a sense, he's never really been a solo character. He's most thought of as being a member of one of those teams, just as Johnny is most thought of as a member of the FF.

I'm not sure what you mean about how established the JLA is. They're certainly as established a team as the FF or the Invaders. But Barry's not just going to be on the JLA, he'll be in the solo title as well, whereas the best we can hope for for Wally (since we know Kyle is apparently the level of 'respect' DiDio is shooting for) is a one-among-many appearance in a team book. Solo series > appearances in team book. That's not to say Wally's team book won't be great (although I doubt it will be, since Winick's been running Titans into the ground, as I understand it); it's just a disparity in the implied validity of the characters. Wally's a Flash, but he's just in some team book, so he's not the real Flash.

Of a Fantastic Four character? No. So un-jealous, it would be hard to find words for it.

Established is the wrong word I was looking for. Hmmm....

Solid? Are teams with a steadier lineup more convincing to the consumer?

I dunno... Make sense?

I'm glad Barry's back. While I've enjoyed Wally's stories, Barry has always been the Flash to me, just as Hal has always been GL. (I guess its my age)

I only hope they do a good job of it. Barry died as a hero, and his legacy was taken over by Wally - Perfect. Just as I imagined It always would be. Now if Barry returns, while i'm really excited I hope it doesn't sour the good history Wally has built up.

Anyway I'm really excited about this, plus with the poetential return of my era's version of Aquaman - i'm looking forward to DC heaven

Well, it will. Be ready, and don't say I didn't warn you.

Yeah, for all the platitudes and placations Johns wants to throw at us, the simple fact of the matter is that Rebirth will take Wally out of play as the main Flash and reinstall Barry in that role, which will necessarily diminish Wally. There's no way around it.

Anybody know when Rebirth actually comes out? Startin to get antsy...

Is there anyone left dead in comics?

It's already been done in the final arc in Wally's own title. Apparently Wally can't keep the same power level he has gotten without making Barry look weak. :whatever:
Now he's back to his Silver Age speed IIRC. I bet Barry 's speed is amplified to Wally's previous level.
