The Official Flash thread

i assume this will link up with the titans at some point. they mention there that all the top genetic researchers and cloning experts went missing - which is why robin isn't outsourcing for his superboy recreation attempts. A clone turning up in outsiders hints to the location of all them scientists.

Besides, you can't have a JSA without old man Garrek around.

Makes sense that it's a clone - and not the new flash as according to thinder or boomer he wasn't all *that* fast. seems like he got them more because he surprised them than anything else.

Crappy issue, but completely made up for it with Katana's preptime line!

i thought that the latest outsiders issue was pretty good, i liked Nightwing taking out that whole group by himself, that's the Nightwing i love, not that rubish in the current Nightwing title :(

I do agree with you there, outsiders nightwing, much like titans robin really do seem to hit the spot far more than in their own books.

i've just been a little dissapointed at the pace of the story. when compared to titans, outsiders seems to be crawling at a snails pace and almost an entire issue dedicated to action and one reveal really didn't help.

do like the codenames though. wirework and his wolfpack sound so much cooler than the loeb batfamily's usual "B, H, O etc..."

you don't like Robin in his own title at the moment?
i think so far Robin has been the best title OYL bar Batman and Superman, he has grown so much i think, and him putting Shiva on her ass in the last issue was quite awsome. :)

it's definately not as bad as nightwing, but you can see far more character development in both titans and in the batbooks. those both show robin not only having completely come into his own, but having become quite dark and edgy. don't get me wrong, robin OYL is a good book, but i still enjoy the charecter as he's portrayed in the other books more, which - given that he's not the sole star of those books - is definately saying something.

HAHAHA, was thinking the same thing. from the way she draped herself over him in the first issue, i was expecting that a romance had developed over the last year. wouldv'e been great to have seen tim go for the bad girl, and would have added a lot to the cyorg/wondergirl/robin relationship.

Jay himself isn't very fast at the moment because the Speed Force is gone. He's relying on his metahuman powers of super-speed, which only take him up to the speed of sound.

But he says, "My grandpa's uniform was the only thing that could survive the trip back." That implies more than just Bart outgrowing his Kid Flash costume.

If the Speed Force no longer exists and it was a Speed Force aura that protected them from the adverse effects of moving at such high speeds it would explain why a special costume was needed. I know Bart said that he still had some speed locked in his body, but maybe it wasn't enough to produce the aura. We'll have to wait and see if it's explained how Jay's metagene has adapted him to withstand the rigors of super-speed. Maybe it'll be like Quicksilver's adaptations, which would suck; heck, speedsters being reduced to Marvel level (except cosmics like Eternals and stuff) REALLY sucks. :(

Was Barry's costume somehow rigged to withstand the effects of super-speed? I thought it was made of normal materials. Plus, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense no matter what the costume is made of, given that half his face is exposed. The absence of the Speed Force is a really bad idea for DC, in my opinion. Speedsters who are practically snails now, no cover-all to explain the quirks of near-light speed, and now Jay is the only person who can even run fast because he had some heretofore unknown meta gene. I really hope the OYL Flash comic turns things around and restores the speedsters to their rightful place as some of DC's most powerful heroes.

Yeah, it's pathetic. The fastest man alive is once again relegated to worthless, sub-Superman, sub-Martian Manhunter, sub-Wonder Woman speed, thus becoming redundant in pretty much every situation. :(

I don't think it was made of normal materials especially considering how Barry burned off his footwear when he got his powers. When Wally started wearing his modified suit (the one that looked like Barry's but without the eye slits and had modified lightning trims), it was made by STAR labs and was also made with special materials. This was when he was starting to get some of his speed back and surpassing the speed of sound, it was also pre-Speed Force. There's also a scene in the back of my head where Wally was all @#$%# up and he was saying that the stuff Barry had left for making the costumes had been destroyed, I think he got a Flash ring that still had a costume in it.

As for the uncovered parts, if his body is modified to withstand the rigors of super-speed those would be the parts that wouldn't be affected. The clothing, which has not been altered by the meta-gene, is what should burn off because of the friction.

You spelt crap incorrectly.

I'm OK with Jay having a meta gene, I understand that the accidents that caused him, Wally and Barry to tap into the Speed Force changed their biology first, so before they knew they had the Speed Force they were relying on a metagene. Unlike Bart who only got access to the Speed Force through biology.

But still, speed of sound! Jay was faster than that in the original comics. This isn't the DCAU.
