anyways, this was a great issue.bart as the new flash is awesome. i was the first to call the whole speed force taking on a physical form, never knew it would be bart. the art was great. although they need to tone down the shading a bit. as for wally and the twins,my guess is they are still in the speed force and until bart can master it he can then use it to bring them back.....maybe. i dont see how this is a dissapointment, it's only the first issue so relax.

True, this will make an awesome story is done right. It would be great for Wally to become this "teacher of the speed force" to bart as he becomes the new flash and that would leave him time to spend with his family and he wouldn't feel as id he's abandoning his duty. And if **** really did hit the fan, Bart could always lend him some speed. Not a disappointing read by far, i think the big letdown wasn't the story, but the realization that Wally wouldn't be returning as the Flash (just yet)

I was pretty let down by the story and art, not Wally's absence. That was a minor disappointment since it seemed pretty likely from the start that Bart was going to be the new Flash.

I will probably pick up the next ish, see if these idiots can turn their crap book around. Of DC #1's, I much preferred Wonder Woman, and I'd never read a comic of hers before either. Seriously though, was the art even that good in Flash? The first few pages with Jay looked good and then with the Bart/*****ey blonde guy stuff just looked crappy to me. Maybe it was because I was hating what I was reading so much, that bias leaked to the art.
No, I thought Lashley was great before this issue. Now it seems I was mistaken. He's a pin-up artist. No consistency whatsoever. There were basically three good sections: the beginning with Jay and the truck, Barry's voice-over, and the ending with Bart tapping into the Speed Force. Everything else looked amateurish at best. The proportions were just awful on a lot of the figures, the faces lacked expression, the rendering was dodgy. Lashley doesn't seem to be a marathon penciler.

Times like these make me wish that they killed him off so he wouldn't have to go through all that he is going through now.

i wouldnt take it that far... though his book is getting more and more bizarre and outlandish...

i agree... they didnt really do a good job of playing up that mystery... they could have thrown in a few differant canidates and really kept the suspense up...

the art was horrid... it really did take me out of the story alot... for something that DC was pushing as a huge relaunch they really dropped the ball here... when i heard they were bringing on the guys from the series, a cringe was my initial reaction, but i thought maybe they had something really good up their sleeves that DC was willing to take a shot on them... boy was i wrong so far... not only was i bored with the first issue, im totally uninterested in the second issue, which sucks because i was really excited for this series too... the art i just teriible to as i previously mentioned... it was sketchy and cheesey, like something you get at pizza hut with your kids meal...

Dido did mention that the person heavily alluded to being the Flash might not be the Flash

Exact words were the first Flash you see.

Did you like the Wally West version of the Flash? If you did, then you just contradicted yourself. Wally was just as much of a 'sidekick' as Nightwing is. They both started out that way and both of them have grown beyond the sidekick status.
I already said I had never read a Flash comic before this issue

Also, I would argue that Flash is not as bad as the other sidekicks/youth versions of heroes because in The Flash, the sidekick actually gets to take over and become Big Red at some point, whereas Dick will never get to be Batman in the comics and Supergirl is just a female mirror of Superman. There is no legacy with these characters, at least The Flash comic has made use of the sidekicks, so as not to render them totally lame and ineffectual.

And also, I don't appear to be liking The Flash, do I? So I win this round

um... ya... and grossly dissappointing... atleast the art on robin was fantastic... this art was garbage...

Wrong. He already HAS been the Batman. In "Prodigal"

I'm a hardcore Marvel fan, but I decided to give DC a shot with Flash. I considered picking up Flash numerous times before but just couldn't stand the art. This time was different, I hated the art but decided that the story may be cool enough to compensate. Flash is my favorite of the DC characters, so I would chance it.

Damn, that issue sucked. Bad art. Mediocre story (at best). I also tried Nightwing's OYL. Kinda lame. I don't like Batman or Supes enough to get their comic. Looks like DC just isn't for me.

Seriously, I haven't seen a really good artist on Flash for a LONG time.

I never really picked up Flash before because of the art it was the writers. Just look at the progression.

Waid.......Johns.......Danny Bilson and Paul Demeo......wha?!?!?!?!

to be fair TMOB has said that Flash has been pretty excellent since the 80s so I guess the books should be allowed a vacation of sorts:o

Jake, for the record, Dick has no interest in becoming Batman, hes just fine being Nightwing... i wouldnt mind someday seeing Supes WW and Bats hand their roles off like everyone else though... it just has to be executed correctly with a character the fans care about... a character that has been groomed to take the role, like wally was... not just a character created to fill the void right away like azrael or artemis...

Hopefully a very short one.

I don't care what Dick wants

Tim will never become Batman either

I agree I don't want to see Batman hand his title off to anyone but Dick. When Dick was Batman it was a great story arc and nice to see him as Batman.

You know what he meant.
No, I don't. He said he didn't like sidekicks, and I pointed out that Wally had been one. He said that Wally was different because he took over the mantle. I proved that others (Dick and Donna have both taken their mentor's mantle at one time or another. And for part of the 52 year it looks like Supergirl filled in as Metropolis's protector) I just don't like how people will take a bias against a character just because "they're sidekicks" In my opinion, the Teen Titans series of books (NTT, Titans, TT and Outsiders) have been some of the best written in the last 30 years. One of the employees of my LCS also had an anti-sidekick bias until I introduced him to the Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans series. Most of my favorite characters were sidekicks at one time or another, that doesn't mean they can't be great characters.

You missed out on the really good stuff: Guice. It was full of odd and funky leg muscles but that fit the book so well.

I thought you were speaking of artists above. I think it was Mike Barron way back then.
