It sounds like crap to me except that they did mention alternate Earths. Now if Barry goes into a theater, spins on the stage and ends up in the Keystone City of Earth-Two then I might pass out. But as for the Se7en/Silence thing, please god, no. Cap'n Cold (or whatever rogue they use-Flash has the best villains in comics IMO) is not a serial killer. Flash should be light hearted and fun, and there should be good (for a superhero movie) science in it. Barry Allen was a police SCIENTIST, not freaking David Caruso with superspeed which is what Johns seems to think.

I love how people think he's such a Silver Age expert when it's painfully obvious to real Silver Age fans that he is anything but.

Still, maybe it'll work out especially if the procedural cop show craze is over by the time they actually get this in production.

Sometimes, you make good points and find that you're one of the smarter members of the board but in other times, I just think you're stuck wagging your finger, yelling out "That's not Silver Age enough!"

Geoff is not remaking the Silver Age; he's taking elements from that era and making it his own, with a modern twist. It's an adaptation of that era, so of course, things will change.

When it comes down to it, Barry's job in real life won't cut it because it's probably alot of paper work. I'm saying that shows like CSI, Dexter or the Silver Age Flash are all theatrical interpretations of that job. Just like cops in movies: you're probably won't be pulling any Dirty Harry stunts as a real cop.

In this quote, it sounds like Berlanti is weary of directing the film. I've got a feeling that he won't. In fact, I think The Flash is slightly more challenging than Green Lantern, since you're dealing with speed and time, and how they work in the visuals.

I'm a bit worried about his quotes. I like the CSI comparison but there is no was Flash as a character should be darker than GL. He should be the lightest of the bunch. Just look at his rogues it hardly screams 'take me seriously'

Macabre on the scale of Se7en and Silence o/t Lambs is definitely not the way to go with a Flash movie. Hopefully that's just where they are at this stage of writing and they'll move away from it as they progress.

I like how Barry's crime work could be a gateway to bigger things. He could uncover more and more evidence pointing to a greater plot/conspiracy, and that could eventually lead into other dimensions, supervillains behind it all etc. We see Barry discover more to everything, his life, the world etc. I don't see it becoming just like a standard gruesome serial killer flick.

Let us hope so.

Here's ED Douglas, who interviewed Berlanti for 'comingsoon/superheroype', and what he thinks of what Berlanti meant by 'dark':

So does Greg Berlanti mean that The Flash won't be comedic in any way?

Not at all... I'm sure it will be lighter when appropriate and darker when needed (like when dealing with corpses). I've talked with Greg a few times (and seen the new movie he directed).. he's a smart guy as is Geoff Johns and I know that the latter won't let them eff up a Flash movie (or a GL movie for that matter)... the director on The Flash is going to be HUGELY important.

Another interview with Berlanti, this time with the LA Times (Hero Complex)
GM: And what’s the status of “The Flash”?

GB: I did the story with Michael and Marc because of the release of ["Life as We Know It"] and because of the show ["No Ordinary Family"]. … They’re writing the script, and that’s really where we’re at with it. I’d love to say that I knew [what] was going to happen next, but I just never know — especially while we’re in the middle of the script. You’re tearing at it every day and going, “Oh, gosh, what about this, let’s try this. “It’s a real active part of what DC wants to do. The character, like Hal, I think it’s his time. I feel like in this environment we’re in now, our society is moving quicker and quicker. There are all these ways to connect; there’s an element of our society that feels like it’s on speed, for lack of a better word. There’s something very timely about the story of the Flash at this moment, Barry Allen’s story.

GM: Are you at all concerned about the movies being released amid what seems to be a glut of superhero-themed projects right now?

GB: You get your first chance to do something big and you think back to those things you loved as a kid. You want to make that happen. I feel like that’s kind of why this renaissance is happening. In terms of the glut, it’s like any genre of film, whether it’s musicals or dramas or cop stories: What are the things that distinguish it? What we’re doing with the Flash is, Barry Allen was a CSI, so this has to play as a crime drama as much as anything else. … ["Green Lantern"] is interesting because it’s a down-to-earth action movie that has [other] elements — we looked at movies like “Top Gun” because he was a pilot, and then it’s got this space-opera element. It really is combining those two things. I do worry about it, but I feel like if the movies continue to distinguish themselves, and people keep finding new ways to make them interesting, which I think everyone is, hopefully they can continue to [succeed].

Grodd or Abra as the villain behind the scenes.

Abra is probably better. Save for inaccurate historical records, he knows what is going to happen.

I think it sounds pretty interesting myself. I'd like it if they played up the mystery angle with whichever villain they choose.

As far as the tone goes, I'm guessing it'll be a "lighthearted character in a dark world" kind of deal going off of what Berlanti said.

I guess I'm alone here, but the CSI angle sounds excellent to me.
matrix mixed with se7en? where do I sign? :yay:

may I also add I'm sick of barry allen been force feed down peoples throats. people have grown up with wally west as their flash as barry has been dead for over 20 years and now barry allen is everywhere. I feel the same with jordan when for the longest time kyle was the main man.

I'll watch whatever flash movie they put out but I wish it were wally rather than barry. thank goodness for the justice league cartoon.

Maybe you are sick of Barry, but Barry is my Flash. Wally's great and I read the comics when he was in it but I'm a die hard Barry fan. Though on the GL issue I prefer Kyle, because I like him more as a person.

No he's not. If you don't like Barry then don't read it and don't watch the movie when it comes out. Nobody is forcing you (shoving down your throat) to acknowledge a fictional character, he ceases to exist when you don't pay attention.

The Flash is awesome, all of them, Barry, Wally, Jay, Bart. Barry makes the most sense for the movie because a HUGE part of Wally's appeal is his status as the sidekick who graduated to the big leagues (literally). Bring Wally is as Kid Flash and if there are sequels, graduate him to the Flash.

I'm the opposite, Wally is my Flash and Hal is my favorite Green Lantern. I liked the interview Ryan Reynolds did for MTV recently where he was saying how GL sequels could focus on other Lanterns like Kyle and John Stewart. Thats something that The Flash and Green Lantern can do that would be different and unique from what others superhero movies have done.

I prefer Barry and Hal, but I really wouldn't complain if next Wednesday I opened the issue to see Wally or Kyle starring again. There hasn't been a Flash or Green Lantern I haven't liked yet.

Same with me Flash13.
Hal is my GL, Wally is my Flash

I just think Barry is boring. But he's in the movie, so life moves on

Oh don't get me wrong, I love Hal, it's just that when Kyle became GL he connected with me in many ways. He reminded me of myself and my friends. Just regular guys from NY and all that.

Of the human GLs I only like Guy and John (Alan doesn't count). Hal's an arrogant schmuck that I want to slap and Kyle is too "everyman" to matter (though I liked Kyle back when he seemed to have his own personality).

Wow,I didn't even see that until now! Kudos!
What do you think of my Wally choice?

I dont see Aaron working as Barry. But he is a good actor, maybe with red hair he can convence me.

And i undestand the fer to seea edge-dark-violent Flashmovie, but i guess is a over-the-top reaction. Barry works with crime, what is a heavy scenario, but i believe the fun and funny moments will be present too. But is soon to really know about what been done with the script.
