Exactly. Marvel has been dishing out these great films, Iron-Man, Thor, Capt America, X-Men, etc... and they have avengers right around the corner...

WB has Batman and Superman. Those two will always be there, but this movie was a huge set up for other movies like Flash, etc... and even a lead up to JL.

How sad, I like DC more than Marvel too

Im in the same boat. I like DC more than I like MArvel (I like both but jsut prefer DC's characters) Ive been wanting a Wally West Flash movie since I was 9. Now I will be lucky to get a Barry ALlen Flash movie.

I like the destruction of earth above. :woot:

Anyway, I'm basically a Marvel guy but I will see the DC films out of curiosity.

They need to blame it on themselves. What is needed is a statement saying 'Yeah, we ****ed up', I dare say it'd more appreciated than trying to spin things.

why-o-why did they tag a director onto this project with no prior experience in this type of visual fare?

I'd imagine that the Green Lantern fans must be pretty ticked by the bad reviews. I really dont know much about GL, so I'm still curious.

Look at it this way....

...at least it took attention away from the badly CG'd mask that people were complaining about for months. :O

I wasnt around before Campbell was signed, who was the top choice for director? (Besides Speilberg, Abrams, and all the usual suspects)

Well in fairness Campbell has a good record of making entertaining films, he hasn't always hit them out of the ground for 6 but on paper he wasn't a bad choice.

so long as The Dark Knight and Watchmen exists and the donner superman movies...Marvel will never hold weight as they have nothing on that caliber. Blade is the closest to coolest marvel based movie yet. all the Xmen butcherd the comics and pissed of true fans of the medium, as well as spiderman ****in up the timelines etc that didnt need to be as so and that HORRIBLE wolverine spin off movie, blade 3, Thor and its overly avergae self, daredevil garbage, spiderman 3 garbage, the incredible hulk and its averageness.

The closest they got to taking the medium serious was HULK ang lee, but they got confused as to whether they wanted to go for the oscars or sataurday morning crowd with hulk dogs and stupid boss fight in the finale that ruined an almost dark knight caliber execution of a film

I need Marvel to just revamp their style of movie making altogether...

Stop the Marvel and DC ego stroking contest!!! Seriously, it is annoying, serves no purpose, and will just cause trouble!!!!

no, he was a bad choice because The Zorro sequel was really bad. He needs a great producer guiding him and a more realistic gritty approach to pull off good movies. He isnt a FUN movie guy. he makes gritty dark movies and as i hear that is NOT what green lantern should be and even star wars was dark and gritty from premise to directing style for them to compare GL to that franchise.

Martin Campbell was a BAD choice for this as he has NEVER done sci fi and this is the top SCI FI of all comic book characters. it seemd JJ ABRAMS would have been a good or a producer who knew sci fi such as Spielberg behind it.

Honestly...i'd have even taken Tim Burton over Campbell even tho alice wasnt great AT ALL he still would have figured the suit thing better with some amazing artistic approach like he had for superman. I LOVED his superman costume approach

Marvel studios has been at a consistent quality, give or take a few too many sam jacksons. They've been playing it safe mainly because they were giving like 500million dollars by paramount to do what they wanted and a GL (potential) caliber money flop would really jack them up. so they hire cheap directors and film their some of their movies in small towns and sound stages and what not.

Hopefully that changes next year, how that disney's deep pockets got their back and there's no more need for teasing for the avengers needed. However I do think you will only see the hulk 1 whereas in his own films it's about 2 and a half. That mixed in with the cost to realize iron man and then the other effects and the cost of the cast...Whedon is probably the second most stressed guy next to nolan(with all his pressure to repeat perform) working. Mark Webb is siting pretty for he's pretty much wrapped and coming off off the stinker that was 3. No where to go but up.

WB can't afford to play it safe imo. They have the money and they need to make an impact. I'd forgive GL if I seen true ambition in it but that wait to be seen.

Seriously, don't be one of those 'director has to have done this type of film before' type fans.

Problem with Burton is the 'making a good movie' part, though. He has visual style, sure....but style doesn't seem to be the troubling issue with GL.

I said it before and I'll say it again, Zack Snyder (Who actually was approached for GL) would have given us an amazing Green Lantern movie.

Before you say the story would suck, think about this: they get a good GL writer to pen the screenplay, too!

Sucks to be you then I guess.

Yea, im all about to give up on any marvel releases if movies keep coming out like Thor, Ironman 2, Incredible Hulk, Fantastic Four, SPiderman 3, Wolverine, Xmen last stand, Daredevil etc etc. Reason we can get away with changing things in Batman is because he is the focal point and has had so many renditions that anything dark and has the names we know in it will work out.

Where as in marvel we have a history that is engraved as the XMEN ORIGIN or the SPIDER-MAN ORIGIN so how they botch these simple factors up KILLS me

I know Captain america is going to be WACK as the director has an underwhelming track record and gives me no hope in that movie as well as the very cheesy trailers with the bad big headed look of an effect weak steve rogers has

agreed fully, but he's tied up with Supes unfortunately, but yes, he would have been GREAT

I think that Martin Campbell would've done fine if he had better writers.

Put some quality screenwriters on the pic and it would've fared better.

WB has come out with Superman 3 and 4, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Superman Returns...and now GL (supposedly).....did you give up on their releases?

B&R is one of the worst sins in cinematic history...it's worth at least three Fantastic Fours, two Elektras, and an X3 or two. :O

How so? I'm not following you there.

Hopefully you'll see this message before it gets buried

Studio's believe the negative buzz of the film comes from Comic Con.

Studio's also aren't getting the money they invested back from promoting at comic con. People find out the movie's going to stink and don't go to the theater.

So the studio's pull out of comic con.

Here's the thing about Campbell, he is probably the one director of the recent trend of superhero flick directors who had proven experience in big budget action movies and had success with them. Nolan, Favreau, Branagh, hell even Singer and Burton all had none. When fans talk about wanting someone with 'experience' you probably could ask for anyone more qualified than Campbell. And yet for one reason or another however it hasn't worked. Experience in a certain genre of film really means **** all, it may be helpful, but it's not the be all and end all.

I'm one of Snyder supporters but this would have been a career ender for him.
Just look at the script. I'd he escaped.

Exactly, nothing but Superman and Batman. Those characters sell themselves...

How can anyone be pissed off at the Tomatometer for the movie? When the movie critics helped Twilight get a 50% on Rottentomatoes.com? I dare someone to justify getting all bent out of the shape because of that.
