The Official Green Lantern Review Thread - Part 2

This is why I think Green Lantern is not a bad movie but a frustrating experience. There are scenes with true greatness but the whole movie felt like a missed opportunity and that's heart breaking.

It might happen though. Not sure this movies is terrible. I am worried but in some case the hatred gets overblown. Some critics did bash Thor.. clearly not as much but after seeing that and really enjoying it I still have some hope.

Oh I know.....I'm just saying that IF the movie is bad...why would anyone want a sequel to it? Just to have more presence in name only? If a movie is bad then we should hope and pray that it doesn't continue....if nothing else than to remind us that the last one happened, y'know? :O

That's called fan service and blatant attempts to set up a sequel. Even if it doesn't make any narrative sense.
i know. its straight up bad writing. if they want to service the fans, then they should write a competent script that actually makes sense.

They need to dump Berlanti and his crew especially if they are writing the Flash.

Perspective, Ghost Rider cost 110 mil and made 228 mil back.

GL cost $300 mil and needs to make that back and then some with an even worse rating. I don't think it'll be able to do that.

We'll find out for sure once it's released if audiences connect more with the film than critics did but I find it doubtful that it'll connect to the point where it can make back it's budget let alone make more than that.

I forgot the used a huge budget on this film. It will have enough trouble breaking even. I thought this might be a hit but not expecting huge numbers.

300 mil is production costs+Marketing, real budget is not 300 mil.

yeah that shouldve been removed... after what happened in the movie he seemed like a good guy and one who really was changed into believing the power of will.

maybe he was just tempted

I know next to nothing about the Green Lantern comics but I enjoyed the movie.

That makes no sense either...

It's not like Sinestro had any depth either, we can't see why he would do that.

Some people keep complaining on here that critics are over-bashing this movie, but the average score on RT hardly proves this to be the case. It's currently at 4.4/10. That's basically 2 stars. If they were really being vicious, it'd be accumulating 1-star reviews. Not the case. The majority don't despise it, they just don't think it's a good movie. Which it isn't.

That's the problem with RT. The consensus percentage tends to mask the degrees to which critics like/dislike a movie.

Thor, a film that's being bandied about like crazy lately, may have a 77% fresh rating, but it has an average grade of 6.7. That does not equate critics "loving" the movie.

The world isn't black and white, neither is the critical system.

lmao...ill be directing movies then so it will be my movies in this forum. Maybe one day i can bring black panther to the big screen and blow yall away

Here we go....

the "I'll be making movies later on that'll show all of you!" guy.

Forget about Black Panther though...make us a sick Dr. Fate film and you'll have my respect.

But in other news...I watched the movie...don't know what to say though. It's like, it wasn't THAT bad, but then it wasn't THAT good either. Obviously not the best CBM I've seen this year by far. Maybe after a second time through I'll have a definite opinion on the movie, but even that's not a good sign. It'll, I think, for surely get a sequel, but who knows if WB will want to keep Campbell or get someone else, or even ask for new writers as well.

Of to see it in a few hours, I havent been this nervous about a movie since TDK.

I just saw it, and I was pretty disappointed. Id have to say that most of the reviews are right on point for me, and thats really odd for me to say.

That makes no sense either...

Exactly< I mean it was cool to see it on film, but it made zero since. No talk about him resenting Abin Sur, nothing. As a matter of fact, before it happened, he was telling Hal basically good job, and then he just instantaneously put on the fear ring.

Another thing that bothers me a LOT.

This movies kept building side stories that kept going NOWHERE. Like Hal and the problems with his family and his care for his little cousin. I felt the death of his father hunting him was barely touched. Everything about the Green Lantern Corp and how they operate. His nerdy friend was literally just f*****g there, and so many others.

And yet they decided to stick with the love story, wich was dull as it gets.

Trust me when I say they are gone, including Campbell. If WB is lucky and the public embraces it enough where it makes some cash to get a sequel I'm almost certain all of them is getting the axe. Them reviews do not sit well with the suits and they aren't going to risk it with that crew on a second outing. Those negative reviews is going to affect the box office no doubt but will it be enough to tank GL? I don't think so. I think it's likable enough where it can get between 160-200 million domestically. I personally found it entertaining and I found myself smiling when Hal was working the ring. Ryan did a good job as Hal. It's worth seeing.

At least that film got good reviews. I've not been this worried since Spider-man 3

They won't keep the creative team. Superman Returns is an indication they won't. All them dudes are gone, even the folks in Craft services and the cleaning crew.

5.5/10

- One dimensional characters, not enough Sinestro. He barely did anything.

- Hammond was a poor villain. There was too much focus on him when he really didn't go anywhere.

- Too much Blake Lively, the romance was tacked on and didn't fit well

- The first reveal of the CGI suit completely took me out of the movie, it looked awful. The mask indeed looked painted on, even in 3D. The audience laughed at the cheesiness of that costume.

- Too much setup, not enough payoff.

This movie indeed was a whole lot of nothing. No heart. Weak dialogue. No memorable performances. It didn't even flow well.

I can't possibly see how this would have good word of mouth, there's nothing good to sell this film. Even the SFX was unremarkable by today's standards.

It's heartbreaking because this was such a wasted $300 Million dollar opportunity.... that may not come again.

Not sure, but I believe Uwe Bol tried to copyright the phrase.

Hah. That made me laugh, nice.

Wasn't there a rumor going around that he'd be directing a Gears of War or God of War movie?

So...we'll be seeing a GL reboot? Like...a Green Lantern: Rebirth movie in five years? Haha.

You know, I wanted to wait to see the movie in September (that's when it gets released here) but I don't think I can take 2 and a half months of negativity (that I'm not part of LOL). I'm watching a bootleg copy as soon as it comes out. Sorry WB.

Don't say sorry.

When a studio churns out crud they deserve nothing in return especially in these times.

Maybe they'll make that Jack Black movie they've been wanting to do. :oldrazz:
