The Official Green Lantern Review Thread - Part 2

It's funny, the critics varying opinions of what's wrong with the film has spilled over into the fan reviews. No-one seems to be able to know as a collective what the issues are. Interesting.

People's opinions and perceptions differ. Imagine that.

It was obvious that this was going to be saved for the sequel and rightfully so. again.

Not from the first draft (Oa gets attacked directly and the Corp helps clean up the mess on Earth) or the trailers (Sinestro rallying the Corp) it wasn't. As one reviewer put it, it was all St. Crispin's Day speech, no Agincourt.

It just dawned on me that that problematic first draft was actually better than the finished movie. Ugh.

You're missing the point, generally when a film is received negatively there's a consensus as to what's wrong with the film, but the reasons for the negativity are all over the place, some even contradict each other, that's what's interesting.

I haven't seen the movie, but this? The sole criteria for becoming a Green Lantern is that you're either never afraid or you are but you fight regardless. What kind of cheap-ass version of Green Lanterns are these that they stay away from a fight cause they're scared!?

We had some regular humans here in NYC about ten years ago enter two burning towers to save people. No power rings, no super-strength, etc. They could probably show these lanterns a thing or two about being brave.

Courage isn't the lack of fear...courage is acknowledging and facing that fear head-on.

FEAR!!! The official darling theme of WB superhero movies!

Yeah. 6 down, only 3596 left to pick up the reigns and do something. It's like Pirates 3 when a British armada and a fleet of Pirates are staring each other down and then 2 ships do battle. Don't tease me like that.

I'm not really seeing that. In fact, just about every single negative review, and a few of the positive ones as well, point directly at the script as the main problem.

We were never going to see many lanterns fighting parallax and i knew it from the start. People just had to many high expectations. I wasnt expecting a fight with other lanterns at all but i got that so that was fine for me for an origin movie. We got to see Bzzd and Galius Zed. I couldnt be more pleased. And idk, but to me, Mark Strong was in this a lot. He was always doing something, saying something so idk how people said he was barely in it.

I loved how Sinestro and Hal went into arguments with the guardians who were portrayed as the fools, snobby bureaucrats as always. GL moment come to life!

I do think though some moments of the first draft were better than the final script but it was still great, imo.

Another random thought: what the hell was that cloud of rocks just outside of Earth? I hope Hal cleaned that up before he went back home because that looked like an extinction level event just waiting to happen. I'm not looking for exact scientific accuracy in a movie about green space cops, but that did make go "WTF?"

That was the asteroid belt, i presume. Not close to earth thought...i always thought that it was just parallax following hal through space and then he went around the sun.

I don't see where you get off blaming us when that's how it was sold to us. "Together we are still invisible!" "Parallax is coming to Oa directly!" "Fight it with me!" *lookatthecorplookatthecorpisn'titawesome*

He was in it for like 20 minutes tops! Tomar-Re and Kilowag got maybe five minutes total. And as for the rest, 2 second cutaways that we already saw in the trailer, and a pathetically inept 30 second fight just don't cut it.

Ugh! I was so psyched for months on end. The more I think about it, the less I like it.

When people involved with the film start sprouting Star Wars comparisons what are people suppose to think?

They were headed towards the sun. The astroid belt is millions of miles away beyond the orbit of Mars in the opposite direction and the average distance between rocks in the belt itself is, no exaggeration, about a million miles.

This one is from the Nerdy Bird over at Newsarama:

Apparently she didn't feel like writing a review so she put up a video. She says she was disappointed because she didn't see all the things that she expected to see in the film although she did praise it for the most part and recommended it as something fans should see.
The thing that gets me is that she said that she didn't see Nick Jones, Jr. in the film as John Stewart.

I'm getting a visual of a Green Lantern Jar Jar :)

In muy muy bright day,
In muy muy black night,
No evil shall escape mesa sight. :p

No. It was good. Didnt we see about 5 Lanterns fighting Parallax? WTF people were expecting? Huge battles? It was obvious that this was going to be saved for the sequel and rightfully so. People complained about Lanterns not helping Jordan on Earth. I had a problem with too but that can be easily explained that after Parallax killed about 6 lanterns, they were afraid. Jordan wasnt and that why he was good. He was corageous.

This movie was great and i`ll probably going to see it tomorrow again.

You shouldn't save anything for the sequel. You focus on one movie at a time. That's movie making 101.

Especially when a sequel isn't guaranteed.

I had the feeling that he was flying around space at highspeed and then he later went around the sun.

That's what bugs me now about movies, studios holding back stuff for the sequel that isn't guaranteed.
