The Official Hawkman Thread

Isn't Hawkman's true nature uncivilized and barbaric? I thought that was the whole point of the character: he's a high-class dude, but he loses all that sophistication and fights like a brutal demon when he puts on the Hawkman gear.

Okay, is it just me or did Hawkman look really silly in wearing a welding mask over his Hawkmask? This was in the issue introducing Citizen Steel

True, but Hawkman's persona never really was part of his personal life as Carter Hall. You can see in the end of Hawkman Volume 3 that it started to interfere with his work, as a curator of a museum and substitute at College, and personal personal life with Ray and Kendra. He was able to distinguish between being Carter Hall and his Hawkman persona, until the Headhunter started to make it seem as if he can't be both civilized Carter Hall and barbaric Hawkman, that Carter Hall was a facade and Hawkman IS truly how he is suppose to be all the time.

It depends on who draws Hawkman's mask that determines if it looks silly or not. I like the way Rags draws Hawkman's eyes, and when he draws Hawkman's helmet without the open beak. Joe Bennett draws an awesome Hawkman as well.

Ah, I see what you meant about his personality now. Okay.
So does Thor's.
Aw, did I offend you? :oldrazz:

Seriously, why does Hawkman's mask have gigantic eyes? I realize it's basically about 2/3rds of a hawk's head built to human proportions, but he couldn't just leave himself normal-sized eyeholes? I always feel like I'm looking at someone's myopic grandfather when I look at Carter in his mask.

I guess just because it's freakier in the whole "Batman-scare-villains" way.

Helps him see like a hawk as well. Which would be really well. Like five carrots a day well.

Just won the 9 uncollected issues of the Graymiotti run on eBay.I'll see how these are before picking up Golden Eagle.

Johns and Rags' run is something that would be hard to follow.

Rags is always hard to follow. That's probably why DC seemingly refuses to give him work. :(

It's a shame the Hawkgirl title bombed so bad. Now there is no title specifically featuring lots of panels of Hawkman.

I personally, while John's run was the best, loved every issue of the Hawkman title. That series made me become a fan of him, when before I didn't care.

That was awesome in "Identity Crisis" when Hawkman was able to see Wally West in the room doing his "vibrate my molecules so fast no one can see him" trick.

Wait, the helmet really amplifies his vision? Because I thought that part of Identity Crisis was really stupid.

Eh, it'll just remain in the pile with the rest of the stupid moments in Identity Crisis, like Deathstroke breaking Kyle Rayner's hands and beating the Ray with a laser pointer. :o

His mask has nothing to do with enhancing his vision.

Don't you guys remember in the beginning of the John's run how all these different things were introduced as a result of the Nth metal Hawkman wears on his harness?

The "vision like a Hawk" thing was strangely one of those things.

I never read Johns' Hawkman run. I think Hawkman kind of sucks.

I also hate how Nth metal became a do-everything artifact. Slap some Nth metal on Superman and he'd become God.

You should,it's loads better than his some of his Flash and Teen Titans work.

The difference is that I like the Flash and the Titans. :oldrazz: I've got too much other stuff to read before I bother with Hawkman.

Bump!

I was just re-reading the Johns/Robinson/Graymioitti run and was reminded of how awesome this 40+ issue run was.

Goddamn,I would do anything to be reading kickass ongoings of Hawkman and Green Arrow right now.

It was a great run. I especially like Rags doing the pencils. I thought Johns did a great job fixing Hawkman's continuity. I only hope he doesn't die in Final Crisis, even though I haven't seen him in FC, although he has been seen often in JSA. I wasn't a fan of Jim Starlin's Hawkman Special.

From the Final Crisis advertisement about one of the big superheroes possibly not surviving, I think Hawkman may be the one. He is the only one that could die and just be reincarnated. If they go that route, I hope they keep Johns Hawkman series in mind in terms of Hawkman's contiuity.
