The Official Jimmy Olsen Casting & Discussion Thread

That isn't a franchise flick. But a one and done studio film.

Dare I say I half-buy this rumor...

But why replace Superman's Pal with a women? More ethnicities represented perhaps. Is she Indian?

Thought about him, but honestly... he's too good of an actor to bog himself down to a franchise.
and Amy Adams isn't?

or Morgan freeman in tdk trilogy

i would love man of steel supporting characters to be very good actors if tdk trilogy got freeman, caine, jgl, eckhart

i want the same here and we are already on a good start with adams, fishburne, costner, lane, etc.

:shock Jenny Olsen? So pre-op Jimmy?

It'd be post-op. Jimmy's a crossdresser, makes sense.

Maybe one of the several Jimmy crossdressing stories is the only story Goyer and Snyder read with him and they were fooled.

But Alison Pill as Jenny Olsen or just make it Jimmy dang it!

Or keep Jenny. Whatever.

I don't give a monkeys if they make Jimmy a girl but if she s this universe version if .jimmy it seems like change for change sakes not for a good reason. I suppose she coud end up like Fimmy from Smallville.

Oh dear lord, that guy couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. Horribly annoying too.

I'm fine with Jenny Olsen. Superman has been done so many times over 70 years that at this point, changing Jimmy into Jenny is not a big deal. Heck , on Elementary Watson is a woman ,and no one seems to complain. This is the 21st century , and while it could be argued that Olsen being a boy/young man is an important aspect of the character , the aspects of the character aside from being a male can still work with a young woman.

Who knows , they may have her looking up to Lois more as a role model and have her still see Clark as a big brother type...or even have a crush on him. Those would be kinda cliqued routes to go but that could be what Synder and Goyer have in mind. Then again, the whole rumor could be BS.

Making the character an Indian female named "Jenny" is really one of the only ways to include the character at all and not feel cheap or cartoonish. Jimmy's character is wholly unnecessary, so they can and should make any adjustments that will make it feel less of a gag.

Well imo the Olsen character is the only one of the Superman family who really still seems to be stuck in the 1930's , at least in live action interations . Even in Smallville he seemed to have a "Golly Gee wiz" kinda attitude , even when they made him an addict.

To be fair, I think he was portrayed more modern in the first season of Lois and Clark , but then when they went younger, he kinda drifted back to a guy from the 50's. Having a young woman certainly makes things more interesting and gets us away from the "Paper Boy" architype from the 30's and 40's.

I agree

I cant believe that we're actually entertaining the idea that Jimmy has been made into a Jenny.

Wow, I'm a little surprised there doesn't seem to be more backlash behind the potential "Jenny Olsen" idea. We're talking about a core member of the Superman mythos, a character so drenched into DC Comics history that he had his own comic book (which had major contributions for Jack Kirby). And if we're following the more modern books, Jimmy is not only the young hotshot photographer, but he's Clark's roommate, too. And in terms of the "young cub reporter" not being believable, I've got one word: intern.

There's a lot they're doing right in MOS, but changing a character for the sake of changing a character? Not acceptable. There are no good reasons for it.

Men and women can share apartments.

Eh, I can't think of any good reason why he has to stay a guy either.

I'm 99.99% sure it's just a rumor since the source is IMDb. But as long as the character acts like Jimmy, I don't care what's between their legs.

But it's also a character that could use a revamp, just look at Nolan's Batman trilogy, John Blake was Robin not Dick Grayson, that's a major change and that worked.

Also we have to say we don't even know if she is playing Jenny Olsen it's only on IMDB bad also even if she is it doesn't mean we don't ever get Jimmy Olsen he could end up been her brother or cousin. On the roommate thing just cause they have been in the comics at times doesn't mean they will be in the film.

I don't see how making Jimmy female (if she is supposed to be a female version of him) solves any "problems" people may have with the character.

If you go to the actress' IMDb resume profile, it's listed there. Only she (or her people) can have access to such things.

Clark "Good ol' boy from a Kansas farm" doesn't strike me as the type that would.
Women can be interns.
Yes, they can. But they don't need to be Jimmy Olsen.

So why not just keep him as the character he is? What's the point of changing him? If you can't think of a good reason why he should stay a guy, then there isn't a very good reason for him to be a woman, either.

I think Blake worked as a character, but not really as an interpretation of Robin (any of them). I'm okay with revamping Jimmy a bit, but how does changing his sex do that?

Well that I agree with, I said above if she is Jenny Olsen a replacement for Jimmy then it does seem like change for change sakes. It just reeks if political correctness but tbh I'm OK with it if she is a replacement.

PC or not , it really doesn't matter to me . I find it to be an interesting change , and adds a new dynamic to the whole Daily Planet cast. I'm glad that if true, Nolan and co aren't just doing the same thing that's been redone in tv and movies for the past 70 odd years. At least they're adding something new and interesting imo.

She can still be Superman's friend and biggest supporter while looking up to Perry, Lois, and Clark . Changing Jimmy into Jenny doesn't really change that. I can understand people having an issue with it because Jimmy was created as a man and has always been portrayed as such , but, from my stand point changing Jimmy into Jenny isn't something that's unreasonable or an outrage.

Just because its always been done one way , doesn't mean it always has to be done one way imo. Imo gonna give Synder, Nolan, and Goyer so leeway and see how or if this potential change works out .

I'm pretty sure if the film makes a shed load with is will end up as a franchise. Also don't forget WBs are looking for writers for a sequel, which I know depends on the box office but they obviously see it as a franchise.

Jimmy Olsen is hardly a "core" character. He's the very definition of a secondary character.
