The Official Jimmy Olsen Casting & Discussion Thread

Jenny Olsen was created as a member of Daily Planet an sister of Jimmy Olsen.

She is going to die to give some sense of danger and consequence as result of Zod attack on Earth, and open the door for Jimmy on sequel.

There, i said it. :)

I hope the hell you're right

Maybe she's Jimmy's twin, and hopefully they'll get the Olsen twins in the next one.

It would be so hilarious if the big Goyer twist at the end of the movie is Jenny Olsen removes her wig and it's been Jimmy dressed in drag the whole movie.

Well it's better than Smallville introducing Jimmy for 2 seasons and THEN deciding to pretend it was just his brother Henry James Olsen so they could kill him off

I would rise and applaud in the theater if that happened.

That would make sense, but makes Jimmy's entrance into the story in MOS 2 a bit dark for his character.

Probably save us from what we've had previously...which is good.

If this turns out to be true then that's probably why they are doing it... but it just seems kind of over the top. There are plenty of ways to portray Jimmy in a way we haven't see on the big screen before, that aren't as extreme as changing the gender (even if it does turn out that she's a relative).

I'm sure the character will have very minimal screen time and is more of an easter egg than anything.

Maybe we won't even find out her name until the end when someone asks her 'Why don't you use you're maiden name, Olsen?'

:p

People can't tell Superman is Clark Kent just because he wears glasses, what chance do they have to notice Jimmy's not a woman there...

I don't even think its an issue for this version if she is a woman, I mean why the heck not?

I doubt the GA who see's this film, many of them kids who will come to the Superman story with a no knowledge of the other versions, gonna have an issue with it. Its basically those who have know Jimmy to be a man for 70 odd years who will have a cow. Even then , the reaction i've seen from non die hard fans has been excepting of it .

If they turned Clark into Clara Kent then they're be a bigger WFT reaction but , its Jimmy to Jenny Olsen so there aren't gonna be riots in the streets. Watson is now played by an Asain American actress on Elementary , and Watson is a much bigger supporting character relative to Sherlock Holmes Mythos than Olsen is to Superman Mythos. So the idea of changing Jimmy into a girl isn't a big idea to me.

I just don't get that, if they were determined to make the role a woman, why not just use a different character? Cat Grant wasn't available?

But isn’t Cat Grant a more aggressive/obnoxious version of Lois Lane? So if you used the name but had her act more like a young, newbie cub reporter (i.e., Jimmy Olsen-ish), there’d be complaints that the characterization was wrong.

I have never liked the Jimmy Olsen character. If they changed it to a woman whocares? If they didn't whocares? As long as the character doesn't make the film worse.

Jimmy Olsen is one of the best supporting characters in comics and anyone who disagrees can follow Ice-T's suggestion to Aimee Mann.

Exactly my feelings on it but I do like Jimmy Olsen I just don't care if they have changed his character into a female the most important aspect is that they get Superman right.
