In the comics he dresses like that now because he is acting more agressive and angry right? Sort of him becoming more serious, and serious looking right?
As far as J'onn is concerned, I think there can be a lot more freedom with the costume design than the other characters. He is less iconic than Superman or Batman or really any of them. As long as he has the red crossing straps on his chest, I would be happy.
I almost don't want him to look like his classic look. It would most likely look horrible in a live action movie.
a big green guy
(no shirt, no pants)
blue underwear and
red straps.
I think it just would end up looking silly unless they do something to make it work
(like with my idea for the gray and black costume streched over the armor.)
Maybe if they mixed the new costume and the old, maybe making it mostly like the original with more covering or something.
I think that was already posted, maybe a different thread.
But that is a major problem with the new design (or his alien design).
People would definately make the comparison.
Ron Perlman could play a good Martian Manhunter - with a bit of prosthetic make up like in Hellboy - in which he spends a lot of time bare-chested to.
Big guy, with a deep voice... just what J'ohn needs.
