the official late night with conan o'brien thread

Tom Brokaw (sp?) on NBC nightly news just said Jay Leno in 2009 will give up his position to Conan O'Brien since his contract runs out. Tonight I believe he said was the tonight shows 50th anniversary or something. Jay says he would like to take out his wife for duinner before he turns 60 and in 2009 he will be 59.

YAY conan.

Oh, my bad. I didn't read the previous messages.. all the excitement.

He better take Max Weinberg with him... I hate Kevin

Yeah I doubt we'll see Joel in anything sexual. 4.5 more years of Late Night :(
Plus Consie would probably move to LA :( And no more Leno gets all the glory jokes :(
But perhaps all the Little Jay Leno we can get :)
And maybe Andy could return :)

Damn why couldn't CBS just make a gold statue of him and assure him Letterman is out on his senille ass when his contract is up.

Is it official or is this like Letterman going to ABC... pure bull****?

I love Conan, and thats why I feel this is a mistake. I think Conan should hold on to Late Night with an iron grip. I really don't think his type of humor would work in the Tonight Show time slot.

it won't...

conan has more control on Late night anyway.

He won't have as much on the tonight show.

Anyone watching Leno right now for the whole Conan thing which will be coming up after this commercial break and ofcourse 50 years of the Tonight show?

Conan's taking over!!!....in 5 years...but he's taking over!!

Appreciate Leno for his straightfoward honesty.

You're right his comedy will be too watered down on the Tonight Show, but who knows what's gonna happen 5 yrs from now.

Well i'm happy for Conan. Sure things are going to probably change but its going to happen and I have every little bit of faith Conan will make it great and enjoyable he makes sure he never disappoints and he never will. He'll put back the pizazz the Tonight Show lost when Leno took it over. Conan reminds me of a 'todays' version of Carson for some reason, he'll make the show the best it could be and may even do things Leno would never do, yank some balls. I'm not worried at all.. Consie knows what he's doing. He'll bring the Tonight show to it's all time height.

Yeah I was surprised when he mentioned the animosity between himself and Letterman it was very noble of him.

Why were you suprized, Leno has always been honest and noble. And he never had any animosity towards Letterman. Letterman's the one who became bitter and blamed Jay even though he did nothing wrong.

Classic Dave on Trio is something to watch if you can. I've seen Leno as a guest three times and they got along great. One day it would be great to see Letterman make an appearence on the Tonight Show. He was a guest host.

It seems to me that a good portion of Leno fans aren't Conan fans. Mostly that has to do with age and I guess people watching his show and being turned off. They'd rather read typos and listen to Kevin laugh then watch Triumph and read new state quarters. I've been looking and most polls show that Consie isn't that much of a favourite. But thats still another five years and his fanbase of younger people will only grow.

Now the question is who will be the new Late Night host to follow in the footsetps of 80s Letterman and Conan? Watching NBC on a Friday night at midnight (cst) just won't feel right in five years. Or I could just move to the east and then his show would come on to a time I'm used too.

i think everything will be alright. he wont lose his edge and become watered down. the censors let up on things as the years pass(unless something happens at superbowls) and i have no doubt conan can carry on. it might take him a little bit to get the feel of it;as he did with late night. i had worries when andy left, that was a big change i thought, and i feared the worst, but it just got better. he will prevail!! :bomb:

5 years? Better hope Conan doesn't get into an accident before he's on the Tonight Show. NBC must be hurting for ratings if they're going to spend 5 years telling Leno goodbye
