Although I would prefer Hugo W., Mark Strong seems like a good choice. I could see him as Sinestro. Solid cast so far.

I can swing that. Now there's a choice. Slap a thin 'stache on that man.

I like this choice a lot. Strong has a great physicality about him. Plus he can easily be seen as a mentor figure to Reynolds GL.

I like it. He seems really well suited. Still... Jason Isaacs would've been ideal.

WB is just using their own people at this point. Honestly.
Looks like it.

Personally I like what we have so far but mostly because I like Reynolds so much.

My impression of all the cast so far:

Ryan Reynolds:

Yay! It's not a shocking choice but he was great in The Nines, good in Smoking Aces and even the that dumb horror movie about the haunted house. I'm on board.

Peter Sarsgard:

I remember really liking him in Shattered Glass and a few other things. I'm not throwing a party but he is a solid actor. So he's a win but not with honors.

Blake Lively:

Huh? I'm going to give you a shot but hopefully you don't pull a Katie Holmes and almost ruin a movie and hopefully you aren't terribly miscast ala Kate Bosworth. She's on shakey ground.

Mark Strong:

If he is cast I'm just bleh towards him. It's probably unfair but his boring performance/character in Holmes has left a bad impression on me. He's on shakey ground.

Thats just my general impression of the cast. I'm still very much looking forward to the film.

I thought he was so f**king boring in Sherlock Holmes but I suppose I have to blame the writing for that one. I certainly hope he's better in GL than he was in Holmes.

He's more fun to watch as Septimus in Stardust. Rent that and see for yourself if you agree.

If this is in the bag now, they better give him the 'tache.

He's not Sinestro without the black 'tache of doom...

He's great in Body of Lies. Pretty unrecognizeable and intimidating.

We already had a Sinestro casting thread where we could have discussed Strong. Actually we re discussing it there simultaneously. Do we need 5 Sinestro threads in here?

I think that this movie needs an A-list actor to bring some weight to it. Begins had Michael Caine, Freeman, Neeson and Oldman. Superman Returns had Spacey, Spiderman had Daffoe and Molina, etc.
So far the cast isnt of that calibre.

I just have to say it:

I thought Spacey was terrible in Superman Returns and I wasn't happy about him being cast as Lex Luthor.

And was Molina really A-list, in any sense of the word, before Spider-Man 2?

He would have been good if he wasn't doing a Gene Hackman impression. The whole film was pretty much an impression of the first film.

But Molina did Frita which I haven't seen. But he did appear in films before although I don't know how acclaimed he was in them.

But if he wasn't, he brought his A game to SM2.

they have Ryan Reynolds who is a VERY big name

People are talking like the entire cast has been anounced... There are still LOADS of roles to be filled!

kilowog, Tomar-re, Tom, Abin Sur, The Jordans, the Guardians etc.

We're only just gettin' started here...

The casting to date seems to be erring on the side of caution, it's almost like the folks in charge are playing it safe, although Peter Sarsgard is a good find, but you're right the cast is currently missing that certain caliber of actor.

I'm not saying that he wasn't talented or didn't give better performances than he gave in SM2, I'm just saying that I think SM2 is the thing that really put him on the map in a huge way.

I think RR has alot of heat on him after The Proposal so thats fine enough for me. I've never been one of those posters who gave a s**t about rather A-listers were cast or not and I don't see a reason to start caring now.

Morgan Freeman has played in s**t and so has Liam Nesson and alot of other A-lister's who have played in comicbook movies. I only care about the performance, script and director.

Think we can get a Mark Strong/Sinestro Manip? :cwink:

He was awesome in Rock N Rolla and the only good thing in Body of Lies. Blackwood was kinda..meh but he did the best he could do with the role you know?

I think what I See Spidey is really getting at is that some actors who are good in small dramas aren't necessarily good when it comes to blockbusters. Liam Neeson and Alfred Molina can do both, but someone like Charlize Theron can't.

None of these guys besides Reynolds, who's never been in a good one, has shown to be good at blockbuster movies.

I say Mo-cap Michael Madson as Kilowog. He was dead on voice in the First Flight animated movie.

honestly, this is probably the strongest cast choice made thus far, besides Sargaard.
