X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

On the whole Iger and Feige issue, I think a film on the level of the first two X Men films , would be fine in terms of the balance between story, issues, and spectacle.

While they didn't involve Infinity War level threats , they were consequential events, as opposed to Spiderman Homecoming, which really only effected Peter's life and his immediate social, and family life, or a film like the first Antman .

In terms of the team , I think the it should be made up of mostly familiar X Men members , as opposed to a bunch of lesser known characters that only comic fans know of .

I think you've got to at least have Cyclops, Jean, and Storm, while I think Feige will have Beast is apart of the team regardless, even if he's not a must , for this film .

Aside from those 4 , I think they can switch it up with members who weren't fully exploited in the Fox era , or characters who haven't been adapted yet.

Magento doesn't have to be the villain of the first film, and if anything, I'd prefer Mr. Sinister as the baddie .
That's pretty much what I'm expecting. The potential hire of Jake Schreier as director says to me that they're planning on playing safe for the first film at least. Hopefully in any sequels they'd do a deeper dive of the obvious themes that come with the X-Men.

Ignoring box office numbers and even though the movie he directed is a Yelena movie* and not an actual Thunderbolts movie, Jake Schreier is successful in his first MCU movie. I hope the reboot in 2029, also gets a 88% rotten tomatoes score!

[threatens to post the white savior trailer again]

Part of it is looking beyond a character's skin to get a good actor. I challenge anyone to object to Jacob Anderson as Gambit, and not because of his skin color.
I have no issue with racebending characters in general and - in general - agree with your sentiments. However, I have written at length about why it annoys me when people say Gambit and/or Rogue specifically should be black. It definitely is about race, but not the way you are arguing. Just pointing out that people could absolutely object to that casting - or any other you might have - on grounds that are not racist.

I’ve been black 35 years of my life so this is just my opinion, but Rogue and Gambit have always been black coded to me.

Honestly I doubt it.

Worst case scenario, they only release 1 Marvel movie every year. I can't see him quitting until he produced several X-Men movies.
This would honestly suit me just fine. I think the glut of Marvel movies is part of the problem. They need to give people more of a breather and allow anticipation to build.

Is it because one of them is from the streets of NOLA and the other grew up in a southern trailer park?

What does this even mean, though? I have been black for all 38 years of mine as well.

Just like I said, in my opinion, Rogue and Gambit have always felt like black characters to me. They always had way too much flavor and style.

I feel where you're coming from, however they should serve as a starting point for a major storyline down the road. I would like to see Senator Kelly go on journey from being so anti-mutant, running for president (his actions would mimic certain presidents in history) causing so much fear and division, wanting the mutant registration act, concentration camps, forcing mutants to go underground. Then becoming pro mutant after realizing the era of his ways.

Mystique isa anyway the wind blows kind type of character. She starts off with Magneto, then align herself with the likes of Sinister and Apocalypse. She would be infiltrating government agencies, FOH you'll never know when or where she turn up. Eventually she would the perfect character for a spin off Disney+ show telling some of her origin with Azazel and Destiny.

Magneto's role would be similar to s1 of X-Men Evolution. He's in the movie, but not a huge role, he's this intimidating, powerful figure. After his defeat in the first movie he will take a backseat until the 3rd or 4th film.

I chose Sunfire because it will be cool to see his powers and we need more Asian representation.
Sunfire is one of the more underused X-Men in the comics, and he was introduced during the same time as Nightcrawler, Colossus, Storm and the Wolverine.

I really think its important for Marvel Studios to use some obscure X-Men from the comics, especially those who have been in the comics before the new millennium, so they could finally break out and so the X-Men comics won't just revolve around the same main characters everytime there's a new status quo. There are so many underused diversed characters in the comics and I don't like when people dismiss them as random X-Men therefore they shouldn't appear in the movies as one of the X-Men. I'm also not asking for a team with 8 c-listers and just 1 A-lister. They could balance out them out, its not rocket science.

Can you imagine if someone like Cecilia Reyes suddenly becomes an A-lister because she appeared in the biggest X-Men movie to date?

I think there's still too many active characters in the Mcu for just 1 Marvel movie per year. There should be another movie for Dr. Strange, Black Panther, Shang-Chi and at the very least a F4 trilogy. Another Deadpool is also a given at this point.

I think by Secret Wars, its time to phase out characters like Thor. Giving Eternals, Sam Wilson, Thunderbolts and Black Widow (when they already killed her) their own movie just don't seem necessary to me. Phase 4 really should have been a breather especially we knew it was just a matter of time before they get to Fantastic 4 and the X-Men.

Also, maybe, maybe we just found the perfect Gambit actor. Who just happens to be black.

We're likely to have to endure Chambit for many years.

You really think? That’d be terrible. It’s like when the Rock tried to strong-arm his way into shaping the DCEU around Black Adam…

Let Channing Tatum stand next to other Fox X-Men and let that universe go on to live “over there” after Secret Wars. It’s like the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths. We’re not going to kill Earth 1 Superman cause that might upset the fans who have been reading since the 1930s, but he & Lois Lane get their happily ever after up in multiversal heaven while we focus on John Byrne’s Man of Steel reboot.

Let the X-Men and Deadpool, and Gambit, ride off into the sunset. If they must return, restrict them to Exiles movies so the MCU can be uninhibited with their own take on the X-Men/mutants.

I have a feeling if the reception for FoX-Men is very good in Doomsday and they still don't have a director and set of cast members ready to film the reboot by then. Things could change things.

I say no to X-Men Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, except for Olivia Munn reprising her role as Psylocke. That era needs to stay in the 2010s or the 60 to the 90s if we use the timeline of the movies.
