X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

It’s interesting Sunspot is popping up in video game promo. A clue to the movie roster?

I think Joey King could make a good Rogue.

I hope we see the sentinel spider thing from X-Men 97. That thing would be absolutely lethal in the MCU with the three heads.
You mean this?

It debuted in X-Men Legends (2004).

I prefer Rogue to be taller in the reboot. Rogue is 5'8 in the comics.

They could always just put her in heels for when Rogue is just stood around and when Rogue is flying, the height is less noticeable. Joey King is 5'4 which isn't too far off Rogue's height and heels would minimise the difference.

no shade to her, but from all the talented, awarded and interesting actresses out there.... there is no way in hell Marvel Studios would choose Joey King for the X-Men reboot and Rogue, nonetheless.
this is not a netflix movie, sorry.

She's been nominated for several awards, had varied roles over her career and isn't a bad actress.

Who would you recommend?

the actual rumored actress for the role, Margaret Qualley sounds 100 times better choice for Rogue, imo. Charismatic, talented, taller, and is a fresh choice too, being a name on the rise and not overused on mainstream movies.

She just doesn't have that look that says Rogue in my opinion. It's hard to describe but it's that certain something where you look at an actor or actress and just think "they could totally play that character".

Qualley gives more Kitty Pryde vibes (if KItty is not a teenager in the MCU).

most actors from the MCU didnt give the vibe of the character when announced back in the day... but movie magic turned them into great choices.

its all about good characterization

I wholeheartedly understand what you're saying. The actor has to give off a certain look or dimensions of said character. For Rogue can you give us that tough southern belle and then show that sweet side of her. If this was back in the day then Eliza Dushku would have a made a great Rogue. She was so charming as Faith, beautiful, tough, snarky kicked butt and eventually we saw her soft side.

talking about potential Rogue choice.... Im curious about shh opinions:

Between these two up and coming actresses, which one gives Rogue vibe the most?
  • Maya Hawke or
  • Sidney Sweeney?

Agreed about Eliza Dushku.

I'd quite like it if the MCU showed adults gaining mutant powers rather than just relegating the emergence of powers to the teenage years and have the adult characters be all experienced. I think it would be more interesting to see how adults react to their life changing overnight and all the issues that come with that rather than just the teen angst/ coming of age angle.

With that line of thought, and this may be controversial, but I think it would make sense for an adult Rogue's powers to emerge as a defence mechanism against an attempted sexual assault . You then have Rogue dealing with the rammifications of that, you have the whole fear of touch issue which works for both directions (Rogue not wanting to be touched then being worried that she'll harm someone by touching them so she doesn't want to be touched, basically a vicious cycle that re-enforces itself), you have that where she wants to be physical with people yet subconciously holding back (which plays into the lack of control over her powers) and then eventually you'll have her using her powers for good and coming to terms with what happened, overcoming her trauma and gaining control of her powers.

Neither really in my opinion, however if I had to choose one of them, I'd say Maya Hawke.

It's funny, I've never would have thought of her as Rogue, but she would have been great in the 1990s and early 00s, come to think of it .

We're about the same age , and I always thought she was pretty cool.

She could definitely pull off that sultry Southern accent, in addition to the toughness.

This!!!! Also they should go the Ultimate X-Men route and have her and Gambit's powers cancel each other out allowing for physical touch. This way it would be different from the Fox movies, and imagine Gambit pursuing her and she's reluctant because of her past sexual trauma. Her fear of not being able to touch Remy, but trusting a man with her body, her innocence, the fear of loving another man after being violated. Also they should her relationship with her father, and how abusive he was, and a drunk and one night in a drunken rage he touches her and since she doesn't know what is happening she accidently kills him. This would make for excellent character development as Rogue learns how to trust men, starting with Xavier and him becoming the father figure she never had. Cyclops being the big brother, who is overprotective, then of course Kurt she finds peace in having an actual brother. Then theirs Gambit the charming cajun who warms her cold heart making her want to feel love and wanted not only on the outside but on the inside as well.

yes!!! and just think of her interacting with Channing Tatum back then if they utilized Gambit in the OT. Their chemistry would have been fire!!!!!

The actress from The Substance looks the part. But this reboot isn't happening very soon.

Aw maya as goth rogue would be so fun. I would love that

well, its the new MCU movie in more advanced stage, so.... from all the potential upcoming projects, X-Men would likely be first in line.
