X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

Im X-cited since we have never seen the XMEN animated series roster all together in movie and under a new studio.
Hope Bishop and Nightcrawler are team members as well

I think it's a fine line up for the first movie. It has the heavy-hitters which is good, but I think they could mix it up a bit by swapping Jubilee for Kitty and adding Colossus and Iceman.

I have mixed feelings regarding Jubilee/Kitty.
on one hand, I think Jubilee deserves her moment to shine and for the world to meet and fall in love with her, as a cool new young and asian mutant.
on other hand, we havent seen Kitty since 2014, and even on that movie, she wasnt the Kitty everyone knows and love from the comics and animated shows...... so...... hard choice.

I really feel Iceman should be on the first film, tho. he IS perfect for Marvel Studios tone/style and all, and his powers havent been fully explored on superhero movies to date. They shouldnt wait any longer. (I dont want DC to take advantage and introduce a random villain or something with his powers. No man)

I have a question for the court. In 2024, would jubilee still meet rogue, storm and jean at the shopping centre? It’s a bit dated now. What’s the modern equivalent?

Jubilee meets them while doing a TikTok video?

I mean, people still go the mall. I was just at one in Miami and it was packed.

It makes sense that they would lean into a team that alot of normies know , and go with well known to normies characters like Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm , Beast, etc.

They could always sprinkle in lesser known to the GA characters to build them up, but I'm skeptical they'll go with a team full of lesser known to the GA characters.

They want to start out with their big guns out of the gate, as opposed to relying on less popular characters, and working the way up to more popular characters.

I don't think the villain will be Magneto though, in that sense they won't be predictable.
Its seems inevitable that there'll be some overlap with the 90s series line-up. I'm having a hard time seeing how they avoid using the likes of Cyclops, Jean, Storm, and probably Beast.

Depends on the location.

I don't live in America, but aren't shopping malls in America in decline since online shopping became a thing?

I live right around the corner from a mall and it’s pretty much always packed still, I live right smack dab in the Midwest

If you live in a big city, malls can be packed especially during weekends.

From where I live, retail malls aren't "dying" but malls near to me - there's least 9 malls that are less than 5km away from my home. From I noticed they aren't as in demand compare to 2019.

I'm not thrilled about the roster being similar to X-Men '97.

But at least I got my wish for having 8 to 10 X-Men in the first movie.

And this is IF, the line up of the writer's doesn't get changed later on.

It’ll be fun if they do the whole Storm, rogue and Betsy having a shopping trip scene when they first meet Jubilee. That would be cool to see

Yeah. X-Men Apocalypse wasted so much potential with the daily scenes.

I'm ecstatic that the roster is rumored to look like X-Men '97. That's a lot of characters, but sign me up. Especially looking forward to Morph

I would love to see Christopher McQuarrie direct this. I know it won't happen, especially since he'd want to write it. I feel the studio needs to take a big swing and not go for the status quo, ie, directors already in-house, or up and coming directors who are controllable and cheaper.

I love McQuarrie but I don’t know if he’s right for X-Men; I’d rather him play over in the DCU sand box with Brave and the Bold.

I’m just hoping the director is actually a fan of the source material—from whatever era.

Yeah, I think McQuarrie is great but this project needs a filmmaker with a bit more of an edge. Like more of a counter cultural vibe. A Sterlin Harjo type.

I understand where you are coming from, I just want a new precedent set for Marvel Studios in getting a truly established big name director. They got the unproven film director/TV genius in Whedon, the weird off-beat Gunn with his cult following, the up & coming talent Ryan Coogler, and struck gold with the Community guys the Russos. They have never landed the established star. I understand why, the studio is more producer-driven and the films are beholden to a greater narrative. I just keep hoping that now its been established that the formula and leadership is no longer infallible, they may want to adapt the way they do things a bit.

Henry V and Hamlett, both great adaptations and an inspired choice for Thor. But I wouldn't necessarily call call him a big name, blow your socks off director in 2011. 15 years earlier, late 90's, yes. I remember people really liking the choice though. Still my favorite Thor film.

Basically I'm saying that if a big name star director were going to direct a CBM, its most likely at DC because of what's been established. I just don't want that to be the obvious case moving forward.

Regardless your point was Marvel never got an established and well known director, which is incorrect cuz they did with Branagh.
