So the new rumour says Iger is saying no to explore social drama through the X-Men.

That explains their supposed choice for a director.

I still had hope for at least Coogler, since they seem to be keeping it in the house. But not even that seems to be happening.

It didn't flat out say Iger is saying no to explore social drama. Ideological issues would carry on and it would be less important. Its still there, but they would focus more on the action, and what would appeal, box office wise. To be honest, I'm not surprised.

Yeah, a rumor that is trying to place the blame on Iger, not Feige. Make no mistake, Feige is very, very much on the side of killing "political" themes if he thinks its going to affect his bonus or job.

So the question becomes, how many "X-fans" are still on board if they gut the core message of the X-Men.

I've already accepted the fact that we're basically going to get live action Wolverine & The X-Men. AGAIN, but with accurate costumes this time.

Prepare yourselves.

you guys would believe anything you read on twitter

that source has a very bad track record. There is a whole Redit post about his old tweets and.... yeah.

Yeah, I don't believe Feige needs to be told by Iger to lower the social message. Feige would do it on his own.

The BTS controversy aside, the fact that Feige publicly said NOTHING about '97 Season 1 when it got Emmy nominations and consistently trended at #1 on Twitter last year on multiple occasions and all the acclaim it got from the fans and critics just goes to show how he'll handle X-Men.

Obviously he didn't say too much about X-Men 97, because of all the DeMayo mess.

And its a cartoon. I doubt he had the same involvement to that show, compare to the movies he's producing.

the reality is Feige/Disney signed Beau deMayo and accepted his pitch for the show..... and it payed off.

instead of doing a revival just for the kids. So..... yeah, I guess is cooler to bring negativity to the X-Men film too, because thats the trend of the latest years.

I'll wait for the actual film to judge if they have what it takes to do X-Men movies or not.

I am just not gonna expect the same enthusiasm Kevin Feige has for the films, to the Disney+ shows. Also Brad Winderbaum is the head of Marvel Animation and Marvel Television, who we see a lot in interviews about these Disney+ Marvel shows.

Anyway, as long as we get a good mixture of X-Men themes and action in reboot and the X-Men doesn't revolve around 4 characters, I'm sold. The thing about the X-Men movies from the past, was the level of spectacle/action wasn't on par with the other blockbusters during those times, its why none of the X-Men movies hit $300 million in North America and got close to a billion mark. The best it could do was $234 million (X3) and $746 million globally (DOFP), and Fox couldn't maintain those numbers for Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

Since the writers strike, Brad Winderbaum has been at the forefront of all TV stuff while Feige has taken a backseat. If you look at all the shows that have come out since then, Feige really hasn't been part of any promotion or interviews for them.

I really don't see the Wolverine taking centerstage in X-Men movies, while Cyclops and Storm merely act as supporting characters.

I'm more concerned about Magneto getting lots of screentime again and again.

You know, I could swear we'd have race changed characters. Cyclops, Xavier and Erik, but also Jean, Rogue, Gambit and a few others possibly too. I felt there was no way the Avengers would be more diverse than the X-Men.

When I look at the rumoured cast now... 👀

But yay, comic accuracy!
I don't know why you'd expect them to racebend those characters. Everybody who has been exposed to the X-Men comics, videogames, cartoons, toys/action fiures and movies are aware that Xavier, Cyclops, Jean, Gambit, Rogue and Magneto are caucasians. There's nothing wrong about staying true to their visual identity from the comics which have been adapted across many platforms. You wouldn't have a Cyclops profile picture, in the first place if you are so against about Cyclops' visual identity.

Instead of racebending those characters (which is just going to attract negative buzz, it definitely will), just use characters like Cecilia Reyes, Jubilee, Sunfire, Bishop, Storm, Forge (to name a few) in the reboot or later on... three of those are rumoured for the movie reboot.

[threatens to post the white savior trailer again]

Part of it is looking beyond a character's skin to get a good actor. I challenge anyone to object to Jacob Anderson as Gambit, and not because of his skin color. And there is importance to look at the character, their origins, and their story in the movie, and determine if a change could help improve that. You have to understand, that "white" is such a basic starting line, such a standard, that being white is rarely important to these characters, especially when they were created. And it does work in the other way. If you have Beast with his comic accurate powers and appearance, you cannot cast a black man for the role if he isn't always blue. There is a historical reason you cannot have a black Hank McCoy with his pre-blue powers.

Ironically, you will be arguing for asian Betsy Braddock, though luckily, Marvel has indicated that is never going to happen again.

A good X-men, an X-men true to the core metaphor, would upset those people anyway. So you know what, **** them.

As for negativity around the MCU X-men, well, hard to be positive at a time when the X-Men metaphor is as relevant as ever, the parent company is caving to the bigots. It was bad enough when I just had to worry about CCP approval.

Some folks just don’t get it and won’t get it.

See, I didn't even mention Psylocke in the other post... and I most especially not advocating to cast a black actor for Beast.

If race bending famous X-Men is really that of a deal breaker after 6 to 7 decades of X-Men content, then you, @Lip and @Shinobi Shaw shouldn't be bothering about the X-Men in the first place.

People want to see the X-Men look like their comic book counterparts and you shouldn't crucify people for that preference. Folks like me don't need to be told to get it. The X-Men's metaphor ranges from different marginalized groups.

It amazes me how hard people will fight to preserve the whiteness of a character as opposed to the character's soul.

If the rumor is true about Feige/Igor clashing over the first X-Men movie being a event film, I think the best route is to go with the Ultimate X-Men vol 1 The Tomorrow People.
  • Introduce the important human characters that will have a multi film storyline, Trask, Gyrich, Sen. Kelly, the President.
  • In a small cameo have Reed, give a small lecture on mutation (to show how the new MCU is all connected).
  • The movie can open up with MRD attacking/capturing mutants, from there we get a brief news montage about fear of the mutant menace (think XMEvo s3 premier).
  • Next we are introduce to the X-Men having a danger room training session led by Xavier overlooking (in this scene we get a small glimpse of their powers and teamwork skills).
  • Their training session is interrupted by Moira or Beast with news of the MRD raids, this leads Xavier/Scott going to DC to hear about a supposed Mutant Registration Act.
  • Iceman/Jubilee/Kitty/Magma can be the new POV character
  • The team is dispatched to recruit the teen mutant they also encounter the Brotherhood (looking to recruit as well) and enter a proto type Sentinel!
  • Xavier thinks Magneto is behind the Brotherhood and he briefly touches on their friendship and how dreamed of a "brotherhood" for mutant kind.
  • The team discovers a secret MRD base (think Night of the sentinels from XTAS) and find plans about the sentinels
  • meanwhile Magneto dispatches the brotherhood to attack landmarks and MRD camps. Magneto makes his grand debut on everyone's TV threatening war on America if they do not cease their mutant manhunt.
  • this angers Sen Kelly who convinces the president to give the okay for Trask/Gyrich to mass produce sentinels.
  • however an insider tips Mags on the what Sen Kelly just did, he then dispatches the BOM to kidnap the senator's children.
  • the BOM launch an attack on a US landmark, the X-Men go to help/rescue while the BOM kidnaps Sen Kelly's twins.
  • the MRD in contact with the oval office are able to locate Magneto's base.
  • while in captivity one of the Kelly's twins secretly displays her latent telekinetic powers. Mags is shocked but will use his daughter as an example.
  • Cerebro detects her using her powers and he sends the X-Men to Mags base/island.
  • The sentinels attack Mags base. Some of the brotherhood are injured or killed. Mags takes the opportunity to reprogram the sentinels and heads to DC w/the twins
  • the X jet are caught in the fleet of sentinels, it crash lands, Cyclops pleads with Blink to teleport them to DC to stop Magneto.
  • Mags and the sentinels lay waste to DC, the MRD and the army.
  • the X-Men show up destroys the sentinels. Mags has Sen Kelly in his sight and before he kills him, he reveals that the daughter is a mutant and now they both will suffer the same fate.
  • Xavier shows up, the X-Men managed to get Mags helmet off, Xavier telepathically tries to get Mags to stop his assault but Mags is imploded with all of the sentinels.
  • Cyclops question what Xavier did by "killing" Magneto.
  • Sen Kelly's twin reveals to him she is a mutant, which forces him to changes his views now that his child will face the same discrimination.
  • the movie ends with the public views on mutants undecisive. Sam makes a cameo saying how the X-men should be considered heroes and to give them a chance, however the Avengers will keep an eye on them and other mutant threats.
  • the movie ends with a Xavier montage (opposite of the fox movies)
  • Mystique is revealed to be impersonating as the vice president who tipped Magneto off.
  • in a post credit scene Sinister is revealed to be watching Scott and Jean in the battle with a sly smile on his face.
ok so that was a lot. I took some of the story bits from The Tomorrow People. I omitted the scenes where Jean recruited Storm, and Colossus instead we get are main introduction to the team in the Danger Room. Some personal developments will be Storm/Colossus adjusting to life in the US, the team figuring out their dynamic, Scott debating if he can lead the team, Jean discovering how truly powerful she can be, this version of Xavier is more secretive, maybe his morals should be questioned.

The real villains in this first film are the humans with Magneto and the Brotherhood as secondary villains. Mags doesn't have a huge role, he's mostly in the background while the Brotherhood does most of the work. Mystique will be back in a later movie. NO WOLVERINE (maybe in the sequel).
