Bale is so versatile though, He could play a suave pretty boy like Bruce Wayne or a rough, tough as nails soldier like snake. Bale has played cowboys, magicians, superheroes, soldiers, yuppies, serial killers, street dancers, princes, gangsters, rock stars, bad guys, good guys and even a guy with anorexia.
And to the general public it won't seem like overkill, because honestly, the part of the world that DOESN'T play videogames (which, believe it or not, is bigger than the part that does) has no idea who Solid Snake is.

Also, think about this: Both Batman and John Connor has been played by multiple actors before Bale. Snake has not been portrayed in a live action film before, so it is a chance for Bale to be the definitive version of the character, which he will never be for either batman of connor.

Lol true, but that film has a cult following only.Hey I am a part of that but it isn't something on a level of Indiana Jones or James Bond, like Solid Snake could be.

I actually used to like the idea of Hugh Jackman as Snake since David Hayter can't be him. He can double up as Liquid and actually use his accent. I love Bale but I say give him room to breathe after T4, 5 and 6 and Batman 3. He needs to recharge his batteries after that.

I would rather a different actor play Liquid. I like the choice of Sean Bean if he could slim down a bit. I would be fine with the same actor playing Solid Snake playing Naked Snake. But I would want a different actor playing the older Big Boss. Yes my casting is confusing but thats how I like it.

while i certainly wouldn't complain if Bale wound up as Snake, i think seeing Bale as Batman, John Conner, THEN Snake would be overkill. Snake and Batman are kinda similar anyway. besides, a Metal Gear movie would be a great chance for Bana to put out a solid (pun intended) blockbuster.

I agree Bana would be a great choice for Solid Snake. I obviously think hey'd both be great but believe me, I wouldn't mind it at all if Bana was cast in the role.

not only that, but Big Boss was still somewhat physically active in the events of Metal Gear 2: SS. Clint would be AWESOME as Big Boss, but he's simply too old.

Yeah Clint Eastwood would be awesome but that is a longshot if I ever heard one unless there is some crazy chance he is a fan of the games...haha.

huh? ever since Shadow Moses, Snake has been kinda mopey/grumpy. in a sense, he's always been an old man because of that. Snake is edgy, but that edge comes from his tactics and dry sense of humor.

as for Matthew Fox as Snake, he's got the chin and low hairline...but i just can't see him as Snake. i doubt he could pull off the voice and you'll be hard pressed to get him to play Liquid.

Yeah, Russel is so hard up for work, why not sucumb to playing a secondary character in a movie that is a blatant rip off of the character he made iconic.

Snake is grumpy in a "Screw the world" way with a wry sense of humour, Bana is more like "It's not fair" type of grumpy, at least to me, i wouldn't hate the casting but i just don't see him as a good of a choice as Bale or Brolin.

Would it really be needed for the actor to play both parts ? I just don't see the studio going for that when you can cast another top thesp opposite whomever is playing Snake. As for the voice i think he can do it but the hair, not sure i see Fox with the longer hair, he is actually more my pick for Sam Fisher.

While Jackman is not my first chice for Snake, I will say that he played two characters in the Prestige one with ane American accent the other with an English accent. The magician and the drunk theater actor.
