Also, I'd like to remind people of this.

In the Metal Gear Solid 2 Document, it described Solid Snake as looking like a man in his 50's, even though he was only 37-years-old. He looks older than he really is. This is obvious in MGS4, but even in the first two games it's hinted at.
"You haven't aged well." (Gray Fox, MGS)
"You're drowning in time. I know what it's like brother." (Liquid Snake, MGS2).

I don't see anything wrong with picking an actor in his 40's for Snake, given this fact. Besides, they can easily take a few years off his face with a quick makeup job.

Having said that, Viggo Mortensen or Sean Bean.

Or...

I prefer those two because they've got the basic Snake look: hardened, grizzled, worn. That, and they're not pretty boys.

Eastern Promises showed that Viggo is very versatile with his accent, and pulls it off perfectly (enough to get him an Oscar nod, at least).

Russel Crowe is a great actor, no doubt about it, but Snake he is not. Same for Viggo Mortensen.

And definitely not to Sean Bean as Snake or Liquid. He can't even even do a good American accent, and if he can't do that, then there is no way he can mimic Snake's voice. And he's far too old to play Liquid anyway, if the producers are going down the route of using two separate actors for Snake and Liquid.

They are all too old (most are nearing their fifties) and they'd look really silly trying to play younger characters (around their 30s).

And if I hear one more person recommend some pro wrestler for Vulcan Raven, I will seriously cut a *****.

Oh, and let's not forget - Otacon is supposed to be a around Snake's age. Don't cast guys who are much younger or much older. And I'm pretty sure Cillian Murphy can tweak his voice a bit to suit Otacon's; I noticed that his voice tends to sound a bit more high pitched when he has the Amercan accent on, as evidenced by this clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeIVrtLe8Lo

They can be fifty-year-old men playing thirty-year-old characters, because they suffer from accelerated aging.

Yes, I've read all of that, but even still, Snake still looked rather youthful (to me anyway) in the earlier games. The accelerated aging really didn't show until GotP-era.

That sure doesn't look like a guy in his late 40s/early 50s to me, and you can argue "But the graphics weren't as advanced back then," and even still, I just think it's a lot more practical to have a more youthful (but not too young) of an actor to play Snake (and Liquid for that matter). That's why I'd prefer Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman or Eric Bana for Snake.

But I guess I wouldn't complain TOO much if Viggo were cast, even though it looks like his years are starting to show. But I still say "NO" to Sean Bean. His age is really starting to show, and besides, I just don't think he'd be able to play Snake without coming across as cartoonish and and awkward.

i agree with Mistress Kizuna. they need a guy who doesn't look like he's pushing 50 for Snake. both Viggo and Sean Bean are starting to show their age. even with Snake's accelerated aging, he would have looked 40 at the oldest during Shadow Moses (when he was 33) and if they follow the video game stories/timelines then they would need to start the franchise with Shadow Moses at the LATEST. so...Sean Bean and Viggo are automatically out because they both look over 40 and will look even older by the time this film gets made, if it ever does. Russell Crowe is also getting too old for Snake, plus he's starting to get a gut that's very hard to lose and Snake didn't have a gut even in MGS4, hehe.

Bale is the right aage and Bana looks like he's the right age. You also have to cast with a franchise in mind. What actor can be aged to look like Snake the easiest without a crapload (I had dropped the s bomb but caught myself lol) of makeup.

Eric Bana looks a lot like Snake, too bad he his a pussAss.
Hahahaa I'm so violent sometimes, It's obvious I am a Russel Crowe fan.
Anywho, there are really no bad choices on this board, just so many good ones that it's hard to pick.

My list (so far)

1) two way tie: Russel Crowe/Hugh Jackman
2) Sam Worthington
3) Mathew Fox
4) Josh Brolin
5) Guy Pierce

Meryl will be one of the hardest characters to cast. Those jade eyes! ;)

Give Mary elizabeth winstead green contacts, and then she would be perfect...

She looks perfect, only needs some CQC training.

And some short red hair...Oh and a bit OT but that pic of Eva Green got me thinking...Eva's a gorgeous girl obviously but she has some really nice eyes. ;)

There's a character in that Red 5 comic they are adapting that looks just like her......Anyway

If she can do the red hair and it not look crappy like Dunst, then that works.

i can't be sure, but i think she's a natural red-head. even if she isn't...she looks like one.

hmmm...Well I was thinkign along the lines of Scully red but....even if she is not a redhead neither was Gillian Anderson or Gweneth Paltrow and they both looked good. One thing's for sure, she's got the eyes, judging from those two pics.

If you can't tell I am a sucker for redheads.

yeah...Meryl's hair is a 'hotter' red, but i think Scarlette could pull it off just fine. she can pull off all kinds of looks.

lol. if you can't tell, i'm a sucker for ScarJo...hehe. but yeah, i think she has the perfect look for Meryl...and even a great voice. Meryl's voice is kinda raspy and so is Scarlette's.

hahaha...I dug Lost in Translation and Ghost World. She is a good pick as long as she can get the hair right!!!! lol Seriously because she does have the attitude down.

Well for a younger Snake, I'm gonna stick with Karl Urban.

well, really, that's up to the hair and makeup artists. she wouldn't have much say so in the matter.

he has the look, but i'm not sold on his acting. i'll get a better opinion once i see him in Star Trek!

I've got faith in him, but I can understand your skepticism. He really hasn't had a breakout performance yet.

I remember JSpider made a manip of Urban as Snake a long time ago. I always thought that looked cool.

Karl Urban has been a good supporting actor. The jury is still out on him as the lead.

Oh and I know it isn't the actor's responsibility to to get the hair right, unless she puts the acotr puts up an argument about doing it. I forgot Cate Blanchett was also a good redhead in "The Aviator".

Just realized? Haha it looks like you just saw Hulk and were like "ZOMG What an awesome movie, they should all be in an MGS movie even though they really shouldn't" You forgot Edward Norton as Psycho Mantis.

Believe it or not, that wasn't my intention, for Mantis Doug Stone is the obvious choice, for Wolf i'd have Jovovich and the only guy that could convincingly pull off Rave is Michael Clarke Duncan.
