The Official NPD Monthly Sales Numbers Thread

Not really for GTA V. If you look at the annual sales, it sold better on the PS4, which tells me the bulk of the Dec sales came from the bundle which had TLoUR, which of course wasnt included in the monthly counts. Higher counts in Dec overall dont seem that surprising considering the X1 had the highest sales in Nov and Dec. You'd have to imagine all those new owners bought games for their console

well i'm sure worldwide all of these games sold better on Ps4. xbone's marketing for christmas was just really effective.

January NPD: Ps4 was the best selling console

Software:

1.) Dying Light (PS4, Xbox One, PC; Warner Bros.)
2.) Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Xbox One ,PS4, 360, PS3, PC; Activision Blizzard)
3.) Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3; Take-Two Interactive)
4.) Minecraft (360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4; Microsoft)
5.) NBA 2K15 (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC; Take-Two Interactive)
6.) Super Smash Bros. (Wii U, 3DS; Nintendo)

9.) Destiny (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3; Activision Blizzard)
10.) FIFA 15 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, Wii, Vita, 3DS; Electronic Arts)

Notes:
In January 2015, Dying Light had the highest first month of sales for new IP in the survival-horror genre, exceeding the previous record, The Evil Within, which launched in October 2014,” said NPD analyst Liam Callahan.
-Smash Wii U - 90K, 1.4 million LTD (digital + retail)
-Smash 3DS - 90K, 2.1 million LTD (digital + retail)
-Pokemon ORAS - 150K, 2.7 million LTD (digital + retail)
-Wii U software is up nearly 45% year over year.
-The Xbox One had more game sales per console than any other platform.

xbone sold more than 140k
Wii U sold ~63K

presume Ps4 is red and xbone is blue. dunno about the rest.

which means,

Ps4 was ~190k
Xbone was ~150k
if Wii U was ~60K which is the green

Where did you get that graph from? It's a good idea to actually get a solid idea of what represents what before you actually post a graph.

my bad, I got it from the same thread on that forum. do you have an account there as well?

At NeoGAF? No, I just lurk. I feel like maybe I requested an account once, but I either didn't get it or have forgotten what it was.

word. well apparently, hardware sales are down. in 2008, the hardware numbers were as follows:

Code:
Wii X360 PS3 PS2 NDS PSP
274,000 230,000 269,000 264,000 251,000 230,000

but their price points were also

Wii: $250
X360: $280-$350-$450
PS3: $400
PS2: $129
NDS: $129
PSP: $199

even if the PS4 beat the X1 in Jan, I have a feeling it wasn't by the big margins like last year.

another change in trend is that the PS4 isn't consistently the top console for individual titles. now there's a mixture of X1 and PS4 being in the top spot for titles.

Ps4 won by about 40K units, X. That's what the pie chart represents. But yeah since this wasn't the full month with the price cut in effect, I expect everything to be more xbox centric from here on out unless sony also cuts the price

and where did the pie chart get its numbers?

also, I think MS would be a fool to raise the X1 back up to $400. maybe we need to wait one more month for the Feb #s to see another full month of the X1 at the lower price.

but I have the feeling that even if PS4 keeps beating the X1 in hardware sales month over month, it won't be by the big amounts that we saw for most of last year. the #s will probably be much more even, and we may even see the 2 consoles switch places from month to month.

if anything, I think this will represent a much more "normal" picture instead of the lopsided PS4 victory we had last year. cuz that was more due to what MS did wrong with announcing and launching the X1 moreso than anything that Sony did right with the PS4.

pie chart came from an insider from gaf, someone who works in the gaming industry

the xbone price is not going back up. i don't work for mS but I promise you that's not happening.

we'll see............:o

Hopefully they're not stupid enought to put it back up.

Why do these extremely highly paid suits need to be stupid in the 1st place? :csad: I thought they would have figured out that stupid hurts sales after their crazy launch attempt.

mark my words bro.

i've been seeing lots of ads for evolve in particular and the ad ends with "now $349"

in december it said something like "$349 for a limited time"

some ads I've seen still say for a limited time. while others say "now $349."

I hope it does stay at $349, cuz I'm gonna try to hold out for a bit longer.........

im pretty sure they're selling at a loss at the $50 price cut and didn't wanna keep doing it.

You've been seeing ads this month saying $349 is a limited time?

-sigh- X, I highly doubt they're gonna raise it. but if you want one, why don't you just get one since the price is effective now?

I highly doubt they're going to raise the price, too. but until they come out and officially say the lower price is permanent, I'm going to assume it's a temp cut until...........whenever.

and I'm very tempted to give the X1 another chance. but, ideally, I want to wait for a few more pieces to fall into place, so to speak.

if I don't get it this weekend, then most likely I'll wait to hear what else MS announces throughout the year.

but I don't want to turn this thread into an X1 discussion.

so......back to those NPD #s...........

MS said this price drop was only temporary. Of course that can all change, but that was their stance after it happened

so far this thread's been active only when it's bumped every month for the new NPDs.
