I thought there would be someone with bigger star power in the villain role, kind of surprised at this choice.

Actually i looked through his filmography again and I found 2 films I liked him alot in. Boys Dont Cry and Jarhead. Solid choice

I thought they were gonna go with a bigger name, not that I care. Maybe THR took it down cause they werent supposed to run with it. If Dc is supposed to have some sort of announcement this month, with these casting choices coming out now I dont think they'll have much left to report on.

Very solid choice.

Great choice! I like Sarsgaard, he's a good actor.

THR's article is back up, and confirms his role will be Hector Hammond (originally it had said he was in negotiations for 'a role' in Green Lantern)

Peter Sarsgaard is in negotiations to play the villain in "Green Lantern," Warner Bros.' big-budget, Martin Campbell-directed tentpole based on the DC Comics super hero.

Ryan Reynolds is starring as Hal Jordan, the test pilot who finds a downed spacecraft with a dying alien who passes him a powerful ring, introducing Jordan to a interstellar police force known as the Green Lanterns.

Sarsgaard will play Dr. Hector Hammond, the pathologist son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father's eyes. He becomes infused with psychic powers when he discovers a meteor.

The character was created by John Broome and Gil Kane in the early 1960s.

Blake Lively has already cast as Reynolds' love interest, Carol Ferris.

The movie is prepping for a March start in New Orleans. Donald De Line and Greg Berlanti are producing.

Sarsgaard, who starred opposite Carey Mulligan in "An Education," recently wrapped "Knight and Day" with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. The actor, repped by CAA and Authentic Talent and Literary Management, is currently shooting the indie thriller "The Ledge" with Terrence Howard and Evan Rachel Wood.

Great choice! He's a terrific actor. He's played in Sam Mendes' Jarhead and Zach Braff's Garden State. Funny thing is he is married to Maggie Gyllenhaal who played Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight and now he's been in cast in another DC property on film. We keep it in the family. :cwink:

This works, this works.

Anyone have concept art of what hector hammond might look like in the movie?

Brings back my faith in this movie. I cast him months ago for the role!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!

Oh, great choice! He just oozes Hammond in the script, but it can only get better. I can't believe none of us thought of him.

Wow, perhaps in a matter of days we'll hear Sinestro casting?

People have thought of him before. He's been a choice of mine for a while, I originally wanted Paul Giamatti but he was one of my choices. I believe Jake Cassidy first suggested him

Do you think he'll have the oversized head like in the comics? And be pink like sinestro?

I weren't a big fan when Changeling suggested him a couple of months back, but, looking at some pictures, I realized he looks very much like comics Hector while oozing that sleazyness that the character requires. I dig.

Is he a good actor, tough?

Dude's a great actor and does sleazy, creepy very well, but with charisma.

Great choice indeed.

Ha yeah definitely. This guy really is great. He captures the ****in' essence of Hammond SO WELL. When reading the script it's hard not to think of him

I've only seen him in Jarhead. He was great in that. What else has he been in in?
