This is the Sony TGS thread. The fact that you're looking forward to the PS3 is on topic, not off-topic. :p

IGN:

Rag Doll Kung Fu Vets Craft PS3 Title
Fresh fun is brewing from an upstart UK studio.
by David Adams
September 21, 2006 - New independent game developer Media Molecule announced today that it is creating an "original and innovative" title for the PlayStation 3. The UK-based studio, whose team members worked on titles such as Fable, Dungeon Keeper, Black & White, and Rag Doll Kung Fu, is working with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe on the new game.

"SCEE have proven to be the perfect partner for us," said Media Molecule Technical Director Alex Evans. "They immediately understood both our ambition for the game as well as our development style. I think it is fantastic that a massive company like Sony has the vision to see that a smaller outfit can create a world class game. Even after 6 months of working together, we're beginning to create something very special for PS3."

While the studio isn't announcing details of the game just yet, it is confident that a relatively small developer can still make exciting games.

"Working together on Rag Doll convinced us that a focussed and efficient team had the ability to deliver exciting and innovative content," said Mark Healey, the studio's Creative Director. "The ambition for Media Molecule is to take that a step further and prove that a small (20 plus) and passionate team can deliver a world class, triple A, next generation product. Sometimes the very unwieldiness of a massive team renders it much less efficient."

Is anyone really surprised or shocked that Sony has more Games at the TGS then 360 ? Japan & the like will always be the ultimate Sony ****es. If anyone really is surprised then they need to I dunno get out more or something

Eh, I think Japan is favoring the Wii this generation, at least the polls there say that.

Ummmm.... anyone else catch the SONY confrence?????

Its was worse than the E3 showing :(

I really thought SONY would pull out all the stops to bring this one home so close to launch... I guess they seem happy to try their best to loose :down

Simply pathetic.

Sweet thread.

Sony is OWNING tgs before it even started.:D

Yeah right... Watch the SONY confrence and tell me thats still what you believe :o

The e3 showing was hysterically bad. This showing was awful and boring. This entire show was like the part of e3 where Sony played all 4 demo tracks of GT HD in a row, completely.

For those that still give a damn...

-The conference talks about GMS - aka GLOBAL MAPPING SYSTEM - which helps developers gather information from their games without having to make a trip, apparently. Needs lots of participation to "work", says Kutaragi.
- Sony announces that PS3 will host small videos and large videos, some sort of youtube-esque setup for users. Uhm, I guess.
- Sony announces that MEGADRIVE and PC ENGINE games will be available for download on PS3.
- Trailer reel of E3 FFXIII footage, Virtua Fighter 5, Afrika, Gundam and Ridge Racer 7.
- That's... basically it. Dead serious. :o

Krazy Ken is going to stand out the front yelling 'LOL! You're Poor!!!11' to the Xbox people :o

Man, Microsoft could have just shown Lost Odyssey and their conference would have been better than that. I'm most likely getting a PS3 (Wii first - cheaper and it comes out 2 days after PS3) but as for the conference itself, on Sony's home turf, it wasn't really that special. I think Sony is looking forward to the gaming floor to show what they're capable of so they didn't do much with the conference (although having certain games in the spotlight would have helped immensely - at least they had a popular game mentioned and with a video - FFXIII).

Conference was supposed to be just about the network. Not the games.

They did call the talk "PS3 - Creating the next generation of computer entertainment"

And he barley talked about the network. The few things he did mention were stupid statements like this...

Now he's talking about the concept of the Network Computer - proposed by Oracle a decade ago, but the network was too slow, and computers weren't powerful enough. Under this system, much of the computing power is on the other side of a network connection - he believes that this is now possible due to the development of powerful computers and servers, and internet infrastructure.
OH MY GOD! NETWORKS ARE FASTER NOW THAN THEY WERE A DECADE AGO!!!!111!!?????1?! HOLY **** DUDE! :o

He's talked a lot about networks, but he says he's not happy yet with the quality of network services that are on offer. The reality is still that services are unreliable.

Even using the fastest speed connections, network services haven't reached the internal bus speed of the original PlayStation of 12 years ago. It will still take time to realise the dream of real-time video and so on - perhaps in ten years time, this will be real.

Therefore, while the gaming hardware in PS3 may be called overkill, this hardware is necessary.
Its necessary? he just said that its not needed.

Alot of talk about other networks and what Ken thinks of Networking but very little on the actual SONY NETWORK. Announcing video downloads on the Network (something that was announced months ago) is hardly big news for an important confrence like this.

Sony cuts PS3 price in Japan
Friday 22-Sep-2006 10:20 AM PlayStation boss Kutaragi announces 20% slash for Sony's next-gen console in Japan

Sony announced today that it will slash the price of its forthcoming PlayStation 3 by 20% in Japan, heating up competition against next-gen rivals Microsoft and Nintendo.

Sony will cut the Japanese price of its basic PlayStation 3 model from 59,800 yen (£270) down to 47,600 yen (£215), putting the console in the same price range as an Xbox 360 with HD-DVD add-on, which Microsoft recently announced will be hitting The Land of the Rising Sun on November 17 for 19,800 (£89).

Speaking at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi said that the price cut was in response to customer complaints that the PlayStation 3 was too expensive. However, according to Sony spokeswoman Nanako Kato, there are no plans to lower the price of the PS3 in the US or Europe, and SCEE were unfortunately unavailable for comment when contacted.

Advertisement:In further good news for Sony fans, the company also announced that both models of the PS3 will now ship with HDMI cables, which the company previously said would not be included with either the basic or pricier 60GB model.

The price-cut announcement comes hot on the heels of Microsoft's own TGS revelations, that it will update the Xbox 360 firmware to enable 1080p output, and of course launch the much-touted HD-DVD add-on, matching Sony's console in the tech-department.

The price-cut news could bring some much-needed positive buzz for the PlayStation 3, which had a lacklustre showing at this year's E3 show and recently saw a delay in Europe to March next year.

We'll let you know if Sony decide to spread their price-cut over to this side of the world

Oh... good for Japan. Nice to think about the rest of us Sony, ass holes.

Look on the bright side. If you live in Europe, Sony still has several months to consider a price drop for you.

sheesh how come everything costs nearly twice as much in england. i mean at those prices they'd fly of the shelves. i surpose VAT would take it back up. 215 +21.5 + 10.75 +5.36 = 252.61 the premium 360 costs more than that.

If the price cut is a Japan only thing then there still wont be that much positive buzz. In fact if it stays Japan only it will just bring more negative buzz from the rest of the world. Come on Sony I dare you to keep the price cut a Japan exclusive :woot: The likes of Zenien & Topdawg would have to be really insane if it did notannoy them that only Japan gets a price cut

At £215, the PS3 would completely obliterate any competition here in the UK. The other consoles wouldn't even be in with a chance.

Instead, we launch at £425!
