It's only for PS3 right now. But still, I thought that game was doomed to eBay.

I really hope Sony is going to let us play PSN games on the PS4 one of these days.

I have a feeling Sony is going to announce a price drop to $350 for the current model, and a $400 deal for the 1tb model in time for the holidays. It makes no sense that they would release this in the next month in Europe but will hold off on any news for North America.

why not? They generally dont do worldwide releases for new revisions of consoles, primarily bc of limited production. They'll announce a NA release when they have the supply to ship out. If they wont have enough to start selling until October, for example, there is no point in announcing it now

Considering the size of games 1 TB is not much of an upgrade IMO. Storage is relatively cheap, so why not use a 2 TB drive? Even though the PS4 still uses 2.5" drives, there a some quality 2 TB drives that size.

Even at that size heat shouldn't be an issue because they would probably use a 5400 rpm drive as they do now.

I have no plans to upgrade my PS4 to the new model as I can just upgrade my drive on my own if needed, but for someone not going that route I think 2 TB would have been better.

Same goes for the Xbox One.

and therein lies another advantage the PS4 has over the X1.

if us PS4 owners ever want to upgrade our hdd to a larger size down the road, we can just open up the console and replace the hdd instead of having to buy a whole new console.

What I'm saying is, in terms of marketing, there's a greater draw to do release in North America during the holidays because that's a time when more people are willing to spend more money. I think it's safe to say that if they released a newer model in April, it wouldn't sell as much and there wouldn't be a simmediate returns as there would be in November or December.

You're right though, it could also be an issue about production. Maybe the de3mand in Europe is not that much as it's easier to supply at the moment.

Yeah, I'm still waiting until the end of the year to get a PS4, but the storage space was something I heard was an isuse from the start. My thing is, and I know it's been discussed here before, I'm worried that I would end up installing the wrong type of Hard Drive and will end up hurting my system in the long haul. If there's a bigger HD already installed, and the price remains fairly the same as it is now, meaning a 1TB PS4 would go for the current market price, I'd much prefer that.

If the 1 TB drive in the new console is a HGST (Hitachi), the price difference between 500 GB and 1 TB is probably around 20-25 dollars.

A problem I see now is that HGST doesn't make a 2 TB 2.5" SATA hard drive, so they would have to use maybe a Samsung which has a 2 TB drive for around $100-110. The difference between the 500 GB and 2 TB would be about 60 dollars or so. Sony may be exclusive with HGST, so that might not have been an option. There may also be some compatibility issues as well.

You're right though, they wanted to save money, but 2 TB is a better value since you're doubling your storage (1 to 2 TB) for an additional 30 dollars or so compared from the 500 GB to 1 TB.

How to Replace a PS4 Hard Drive

You can backup the Saved Game data, but not sure Theme is backed up. You would have to check around.

This is a good 2 TB upgrade drive.

Maybe like $40 (or even less), which may not be much for you as a consumer but it is for a company that is mass producing these by the millions. Lets say it costs them $20 more to go from 500gb to 2tb; Thats like $20 million spent per million made. Thats alot of money especially for a company that hasnt done so well in recent years. Now imagine if they had gone with 2tb from launch as some people said they should have. That would have been at least $400M per the 20M sold. All theoretical numbers but you get the jist

Going with 500 GB at launch was the best decision.

I think 1TB should be more than adequate.

the nice thing about the PS4 is that, for disc games at least, it's easy to delete the games you don't actively play then reinstall them later if you need them - since the PS4 installs from disc super fast.

the fact that SSD are so much more expensive per gb, makes them not a feasible option. If one gets a SSD, its primarily going to be for speed, not extra space (which IMO, is more important). Ive seen comparisons and the performance improvement seems negligible and not worth the extra costs

that would be the best one to get. The other option is The Last of Us Bundle but that game can be bought for ~$15 digitally
