Mega Man and Resident Evil publisher Capcom has been rewarded for its success in the digital downloads market with its own branded PlayStation Network storefront.

Coming off the hot releases of Bionic Commando Rearmed and Mega Man 9 this fall, Capcom has easily become one of the most productive publishers in the downloadable content space. In recognition of the company’s hard work, Sony has created a page on the PSN store for the publisher, setting their titles apart from other third-party competitors.

Sony has confirmed talks with other third party publishers, and is hoping to have additional “publisher portals” established in the future.

The Capcom storefront will launch in November, coinciding with the release of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

If Sony is smart they'd go straight for Namco-Bandai to get the next storefront and try and get Pac-Man Championship Edition and Galaga Legions on PSN.

And to add to that^^

Sony recently created a custom storefront for Capcom and someday the PsOne version of Street Fighter Alpha 2 will be on there. The ESRB rated Street Fighter Alpha 2 as a PlayStation 3 / PSP game locking it in as an upcoming PlayStation Classics release. This doesn’t mean we’re going to see Street Fighter Alpha 2 as a downloadable game anytime soon though. Konami’s Castlevania Chronicles, Suikoden have yet to materialize and it took Street Fighter Alpha a full eight months after the ESRB rating to get a proper release. Now that Capcom has a store PsOne classics make trickle in more often or Capcom could hold Street Fighter Alpha 2 as a future surprise to go along with the launch of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Let’s see what comes out first the PsOne game as a digital download or the disappointing Super Nintendo port.



Update: As Yurinka commented (thanks!) Street Fighter Alpha 3 also appears as a PSP / PlayStation 3 game in the ESRB database which means it’s also coming out as a PlayStation Classic. Interesting, but I’ll stick with Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX which Capcom released for the PSP back in 2006.

Hope you’ve been enjoying the beefy updates over the past couple weeks. If you have been a frequent visitor to PlayStation Store, you would have noticed the custom categories we created for Halloween and for the Siren: Blood Curse promotion.

This Thursday, we are releasing a custom category for Capcom. As you may know, Capcom has been a huge supporter of PlayStation Network, so we collaborated on a special storefront to coincide with the release of Age of Booty.

Within this “Capcom Store”, you’ll be able to browse through all Capcom digital content available from PlayStation Network. Once inside the Capcom category, you will notice that all their content is sorted by title. This allows you easy access to view all content related to a particular game. This includes all full game content, demo and promotional items (themes, wallpapers, etc).

Be sure to keep a look out for this new offering dropping this Thursday and some exclusive Capcom content headed to PlayStation Store in the future!
