Right, but since it's a port of PS2 titles anyway would it really be that difficult to make it available over the PSN for PS3 users?

yes bc PS2 games cant be used on the current PS3s. Putting this up on the PSN store requires no work for Capcom as its already avallable in disc form on the PSP. For them to make it available for the PS3, it would essentially have to be a new title since they cant put the PS2 games up. That would require them to work on emulation for the various games and recompile specifically for the PS3. Theres probably liscensing fees to Sony involved with that as well.

They wouldn't have to port over the PS2 titles. It would require some recompiling, true, but I doubt it would take that time or cost to do so.

probably not but their goal here wasnt to create a new compilation, but rather than make one of their older titles downloadable. I expect them to do the same for their Megaman, SF titles and other PSP games in the upcoming weeks. It would actually be more cost effective for them to make a brand new compilation specifically for the PS3/360. When they post up Megamn Powered Up, will people expect a PS3 version? No, bc its just their PSP game in downloadble form

I haven't heard, I'm sure that at least the first one will be released if Sony ever gets around to releasing PS2 titles over PSN. I don't know when that will be, though. It might be a better bet to get one off eBay or used at GameStop

Bleh, that sucks. My friend recommended it to me but I didn't want to have to buy more PS2 discs. Oh well, I guess I'll have to. Thanks.

Sony has been pretty adamant about not putting ps2 games on the psn so I doubt that'll ever happen

Well, I don't about that, I remember reading once that Sony was planning to eventually put PS2 titles on the PSN. Though it seems they've struggled just to put out a steady stream of PS1 Classics, but I don't know about never

They cant put PS2 games on there right now bc different models of PS3s out there have different levels of backwards compatibility and the current ones in production have none. It would be a mess for them to put a game up there that isnt accesible across all the systems. If and when they update the firmware to allow for software emulation of PS2 titles, it will be most likely be on a game by game basis

Theres also the fact that the PS2 is still selling pretty well, which Im sure puts them in no rush to get BC back into the PS3. Its probably more profitable for them to continue selling that and constantly release those 3 game collections of old PS2 titles

Speaking to G4, Croteam CEO Roman Ribaric said the company originally also wanted to do a PSN version of Serious Sam HD alongside the PC and XBLA releases, but cited time constraints as the major factor holding it back. "[We] couldn't get additional financing to support [the] extra development time needed," said Ribaric. "It was either to do PSN by the same date or forget about it."

Luckily, Croteam hasn't gone with the latter and hasn't completely ruled out releasing a PSN port sometime after the PC and XBLA versions. The Croteam CEO says he's heard from different offices in the industry that consumers are disenchanted with late ports; however, he's still interested in listening to what PS3 owners think. Is it worthwhile for Croteam to pursue? Would you wait for the PSN version? Send Croteam an e-mail or maybe start a petition online -- this might be one of the few times developers will actually listen.

Here's the website for the developers

Honestly, I doubt it'll do any good, but for those interested you may want to send an e-mail. At best it'll be sloppy seconds if anything comes from it but better than nothing

Just read this article and thought it was relevant to this convo.
Maybe this is a sign that they are heading back to BC through software. I don't think it addresses the GS, but this patent was filed in December 08.

That doesn't necessarily mean they'll reinstate backwards compatibility, unfortunately. Doesn't Sony just patent stuff left and right, regardless of whether they'll actually use it?

Hey PlayStation fans, I’m Ryan, Capcom’s newest Bearer of Good News. Today, I’m here to bring you word of our upcoming PlayStation classics, a library of classic games being brought to you on the PlayStation Network. We’ve sorted through our archives and hand-selected the games that rocked the industry. All of these upcoming classics will be released over the PSN, and will be playable on your PSP.

Coming up first is Capcom Classics Collection: Remixed, available tomorrow. The game is a collection of arcade classics from gaming’s glorious past. Pay homage to the best of the arcades, like Final Fight, Bionic Commando, Street Fighter, and Magic Sword. Prove your old-school dominance with twenty full arcade titles. Check out the full list of included games here.

Later this summer, look forward to Fate/Unlimited Codes. Capcom’s fighting game masters have brought one of Japan’s most popular animes exclusively to the PSN, ready for the new PSPgo. High-flying combos and fast-paced versus action show off the game’s gorgeous 3D graphics, and it’s a fighting-game experience you can’t get anywhere else.

Next, keep your eyes out for more gems from Capcom, being brought directly to the PSN. Check out the full list below, including PSone and UMD Legacy titles, and come back often for more info on individual release timing.

* Capcom Classics Collection Remixed (UMD Legacy)
* Mega Man Powered Up (UMD Legacy)
* Dino Crisis (PlayStation Legacy)
* Power Stone Collection (UMD Legacy)
* Mega Man Maverick Hunter X (UMD Legacy)
* Resident Evil 2 (PlayStation Legacy)
* Darkstalkers (UMD Legacy)
* Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max (UMD Legacy)
* Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PlayStation Legacy)
* Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded (UMD Legacy)

Well, it's nice to see they're finally bringing RE2 & 3 over here since they've been available forever in JPN. Kind of disappointed to see such a small list of PS1 classics, but I know they're putting the PSP in top priority because of the Go! so can't be helped I suppose

I wonder if they'll update the RE2 and RE3 controls so they're not quite so awkward. I hated having to rotate my character super-slowly in RE2.

DINO CRISIS! I used to LOVE that game when I was a wee nipper. I hope its aged well.

I'll probably buy Dino Crisis. I played it once and liked it, but I never finished it or even got very far.

EU 7/2

Original PSN-only PS3 Games:

* topatoi: The Great Tree Story - a cute looking 3D platform/puzzle combo with split screen and the promise of DLC down the line. Check out the official site here or the developer’s site here. Will definitely appear on the European Store tomorrow, but we don’t yet know the price.
* Punisher: No Mercy - a brand new PSN-exclusive first person shooter, in which the players face off against other players locally and online, in addition to a single player mode. Four maps will be available at launch alongside various game modes. Might only be available in the States tomorrow, but check the official site here.

PlayStation Home Content:

* SOCOM Tactical Operations Centre - it’s been available elsewhere for a while but we’ll definitely get this new Home Space tomorrow. Great news for SOCOM fans, the TOC will feature a central map area so you can play your assaults with Clan members and friends from within Home.
* inFamous: Abandoned Docks Area - a brand new area that will broadcast exclusive Sucker Punch content in addition to a built-in side scrolling minigame called Reaper shock. Excellent news for inFamous fans, this Home Space should be your first port of call when it launches tomorrow.
* Killzone 2 Visari Throne Room - another Home area, the Visari Throne Room (apartment) will be available from the Shopping Centre tomorrow - perfect for Killzone 2 fans (paging the TSA clan!) this brand new space is launching tomorrow so there’s no European delay. Prices: Space: £4, Visari chair £1.59, Visari desk £1.59, Helghan Defense painting £1.59 - Thanks Kevling.

PSP Games:

* Capcom Classics Collection Remixed is the first in a series of Capcom classics that will hit the PSN Store over the next weeks and months. The PSP download will include Capcom favourites like Final Fight, Bionic Commando, Street Fighter, and Magic Sword. Might just be the US Store, sadly, as this is ace.
* Minna No-X - don’t forget that whatever this is, it’ll be out and playable on the Japanese Store later today. Read the full story here, but we still don’t have any idea what the game will be.

PS3 Game Downloadable Content:

* LittleBigPlanet - Sacktue of Liberty Costume. Media Molecule’s cute play on words has resulted in an even cuter costume for everyone’s favourite Sackboy. The Sacktue of Liberty Costume will be available for free tomorrow, and will be available in Europe in addition to the States.
* Guitar Hero: World Tour. NOFX’s Linoleum, Bad Religion’s 21st Century (Digital Boy) and Rancid’s Ruby Soho will be available to download tomorrow, if slightly cheap throwaway ‘punk’ is your thing. It’s not ours, but then I personally haven’t bought a single track for GH:WT from the Store.
* Rock Band: 3 tracks from the Vans Warped World Tour: “Sweet Talk” by Dear and the Headlights, “Hey John, What’s Your Name Again?” by The Devil Wears Prada and “Image of the Invisible” from Thrice appear alongside a Foreigner three pack consisting of “Blue Morning, Blue Day“, “Feels Like the First Time“and “Headknocker“. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s “Weapon of Choice” completes the list.
* Motorstorm: Pacific Rift: Speed Pack. New tracks, new vehicles, new events and new Trophies. This hit Japan today so is highly likely to appear on the European Store too - check here for a full list of the updates, but we’re assuming yesterday’s 600MB patch had something to do with this.

PS3 Game Updates:

* Blast Factor - Trophy Patch. This week the much awaited patch for Blast Factor went live giving players access to Trophies, something that’s been a bone of contention for European gamers since the game went live. To read more about the patch and to see a list of the Trophies, click here.
* Motorstorm - Home Patch. Alongside a few new Trophies, badges and the other tweaks you get from these Motorstorm patches, the latest one (which weighs in at 600MB) also comes with Home game launching. To read more about the patch, click here.

Hope that Punisher game gets good reviews.

BUT: Where are Resident Evil, MGS and Fat Princess eh? EH?

I will never stop finding things to complain about Sony, EVER

I'm curious about the Punisher game. I don't know if an FPS, ironically, is the best place to showcase the Punisher. I've always thought of him as more than just a psychopath who runs around shooting everything in sight. A planning/strategy element would've been nice. But I'll give it a try if there's a demo.
