What about Rex Mundi? I flicked through the first trade in the comic shop a year or so ago, it looked interesting enough. Anyone got an opinion on it?

I like it. It took me a while to warm up to it, since I first heard of it after The Da Vinci Code was published, and I had grown tired of "quests for a grail". The clincher for me was the setting since I'm a sucker for alternate history stories.

Just read Pride of Baghdad. Very tragic, but a nice change to your average graphic novel. Chilling in a way. Had a barnes and noble gift card and they didn't have ex machina or transmet, so went for pride.

just read teh last issue of Rex Mundi, it's superb... I LOVE the ending due to the specificity of the art, you wont' get the ending otherwise, loved it.

I also read Young Liars the last issue and if anyone can please explain to me wtf is going on in the ending that would be hugely helpful, I had no idea what was going on with that

One I've found that I really really really like is THE UNWRITTEN, another amazing comic by Vertigo, seriously it's only been 5 issues out so far and I think it's superbly sublime, very well worth checking out...

How are the Hellboy comics? My Comic shop owner likes them alot and told me how it has Nazi scientists, Folklore creatures and demons and whatnot, and i've seen the two first movies (yes i know the 2nd movie is more of Toro's own story rather then taking something fromthe comic) and i liked them abit, so hey, how are the comics?!

As a big Hellboy fan, I really can't say that they're the most moving or emotionally complex comics ever, but really they're all just full of awesome stuff and cool characters. Seed of Destruction is the first graphic novel, and while it's not the best Hellboy it's a great starting place. I'd recommend Hellboy to anyone.

Agreed, if you're a fan of mythology then you must at least try Hellboy. Though, in my opinion, some of the characters are very...one-note and each trade is $18-.

What kinda monsters does it have? The shop owner said theres' no Angels at all, which i kinda found weird but like... Trolls and Ogres i guess? What about Vampires or Were-wolves?

In seriousness, most of the monsters are non-Christian mythology based. A lot of stuff pulled from various obscure legends. And there are definitely vampires and werewolves.

Okay thanks lads! *thumbs up* Once i'm done with my exams and finished with some other comics i haven't finished reading. I'll buy the 1st two graphical novels and see how it goes from there.

Yea Hellboy is great. There is a non canon GN can't remember what it's called where Mignola takes these obscure mythical tales from places like Ireland and Japan and puts the Hellboy twist to them. Really great reads.

Finally bought and read Hellboy: Seeds of Destruction & Hellboy: Wake the Devil.

Man i really like dit, the folklolore, the characters, the art style, the whole black+red coloring scheme going on was just greatness. I surely hope it doesn't go downhill from here....

Anyone here read The Fell? I'm a fan of Templesmith and Ellis.

It was OK, but I found myself not getting that into the stories. It's my least favorite thing I've read from Ellis. I'm kind of so-so on Templesmith, so that didn't help.

Fell never finished, by the way. They made enough issues for the first trade, went on a "hiatus," and then they made only one more issue before forgetting about it.

That's Warren Ellis for you. Still waiting on that last issue of Planetary, that was supposedly finished and all drawn up last year.

Ellis finished writing it in late 2007. Cassaday finished drawing it March this year. For some effing reason, nobody feels like releasing it.

I don't think it's been recommended but I may be wrong, so don't scold me if this has been brought up already. But


The Incredible Hercules - which is actually post The Incredible Hulk and I believe begins with issue #112

A very entertaining series with much more plot and interwoven story lines that I had anticipated. I have not finished it just yet but I am close and so far it is great. I highly recommend it if you enjoy comics with more comedy and yet still plenty of action and story to carry you along the entire journey.

I would say if you enjoy Invincible you may like this book. If had to grade it on a scale say 1-10.

I give it a solid 7. 1 being complete trash 10 being the best comic ever written and 5 being just average run of the mill nothing special.

Oh sir, you're in for a surprise! Wait until you get to volume 9, The Wild Hunt. The Wild Hunt was one of the few instances where I literally yelled "HOLY ****!" out of pure excitement. The implications it has for Hellboy are enormous and of incredibly epic proportions. It brings alot of loose ends together, and will be concluded by probably the middle of next year in a 3 issue mini called The Fury. The Fury is the second half of a 6 issue series called The Storm and The Fury, which will conclude the story seen in Darkness Calls and The Wild Hunt.

The Storm finished up in September, and was really exciting. The downside is, we won't get a trade until atleast the end of next year.

Yep. I got 10 volumes of Hellboy, 8 volumes of B.P.R.D and the Hellboy: Masks and Monsters volume. I was really bummed by Mask and Monsters since it really lacked Batman. Wild Hunt arc has been epic! Waiting for Storm and Fury!
