Lucinda looks too similar to Marth. Using up a character slot for what could amount to a clone character seems like a waste. They still need to announce the old guard of Ness (or Lucas) and Jigglypuff and other favorites like Falco and Ganondorf.

Nintendo surprisingly revealed three new characters for the new Super Smash Bros. with Lucina, Robin, and the return of Captain Falcon. Director Masahiro Sakurai gives us a closer look at Lucina, along with her comparison to Marth on his latest Miiverse post.
While Lucina’s abilities are identical to Marth’s, as it must be in her DNA, Sakurai explains that Marth’s power is concentrated at the tip of his sword, while Lucina’s attack strength is balanced throughout her weapon, making her easier to control. She’s also a bit shorter than Marth.
“With the Wii Fit Trainers, the male and female Robins, the Villagers, and Little Mac, varying their appearances and voices works just like selecting alternate color variations,” wrote Sakura. “However, whenever there is even a small difference in abilities, that character gets an actual roster slot. That is why you can select Lucina individually.”
He also added the following close-up look at Lucina, along with an interesting little tidbit:
“By the way…there’s probably no chance you’ll be able to see this in the game, but Lucina has the mark of Naga in her left eye.”
Super Smash Bros. will be available this October for Nintendo 3DS, with the Wii U version following sometime this holiday season.

GI's Our Take
I'm not personally interested in splitting hairs about slight differences between characters. If characters are fun to play and have movesets I enjoy, I'll use them. However, it is interesting to see how much thought goes into whether a character earns a separate slot on the roster or is relegated to a variation of an existing fighter.
Two Fire Emblem characters is a little boring to me. But oh well.

During the recent Super Smash Bros. trailer that revealed Lucina and Robin as playable characters in the game, it was revealed that Robin can fight using both magic tomes as well as the Levin Sword from Fire Emblem: Awakening.
In a post on Miiverse, director Masahiro Sakurai explained how the switch happens.
The Levin sword and tomes are Robins life lines, Sakurai wrote. The Levin sword can be activated by using smash attacksyou can even activate these moves in midair!
However, just like in the original game, the Levin sword can be used only a limited number of times before it breaks, at which point it takes some time to regenerate. When the Levin sword is unavailable, Robin fights using the bronze sword.
In a follow-up comment, Sakurai added: The way Robin launches Arcfire is kind of crazyhe or she calls down a bolt of flame from above, then launches a pillar of fire! By the way, Robins tome changes with each special attack.
Super Smash Bros. will be released for Nintendo 3DS this October. The games Wii U release will follow later this holiday.

Fire Emblem: Awakening’s Robin will have the first ability in Super Smash Bros. that lets you dish out damage while recovering health, director Masahiro Sakurai says.
On Miiverse, Sakurai posted: “Robin’s Nosferatu is the first ability in the Smash Bros. series that recovers your damage as it gives damage to others. The attack becomes even stronger if you strike from behind!”
He added: “Robin doesn’t actually use this ability in the original game, but we added that element to make the character unique. Who knows—the ideas we use in this game may contribute to the original series.”
Super Smash Bros. will be released for Nintendo 3DS this October and on Wii U sometime this holiday season.

Super Smash Bros. will feature different stages on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, but some stages will be common to both versions of the game. One of these stages is the Wily Castle stage, based on Mega Man II.
Director Masahiro Sakurai stated on Miiverse: “In general, there are completely different stages in the 3DS and Wii U version, but we made Wily Castle and the special boxing ring available for both versions!”
“We didn’t forget the Yellow Devil either,” he added. “There may be some small differences in the stages, such as the 3DS stage appearing to be during daylight hours.”

is it worth buying a wii u for this game?
Depends on how much you like Smash Bros. Also depends on how much you like Nintendo. The Wii U is a dedicated Nintendo console. You won't find third party AAA titles on it. I love the Wii U. I think it's the best console on the market right now. It's got a ton of great features and great games. In between big Nintendo releases, there's a great selection of Virtual Console and Indie Games to choose from.
If you don't give a **** about Nintendo, I don't get why you'd bother with a Nintendo machine. Unless you really feel it's worth owning a machine for literally a single game.
