The Official Tom Welling Thread - Part 1

Full Disclaimer: I posses no skills at reading lips...but I could have sworn as they tuned in the music for the commercial outro, Tom said, "it's not gonna happen." And they both share a laugh before the cut-away.

I have no idea what Fallon asked him, but the lip pattern for Tom fits perfectly with saying "it's not gonna happen".

Someone else can rewind and replay. I also don't want to turn this into a KGB level inquiry on what someone could have said, or not said - but I'm getting that distinct feeling there will be allusions to Tom in suit as opposed to Tom in actual suit.

Yeah I'm starting to doubt more and more that we will get what we were hoping for. Oh well, it's been a fun ride and I'm just going to enjoy the episodes we have left.

Well, Fallon could have asked "Are you going to tell me?" in which Tom replied no, he won't tell him.

But yeah, I've had this feeling for a while that we won't see things like Tom in the suit, or flight similar to Crusade as opposed to the one from Collateral, or even a marriage. Everyone can say I'm wrong or whatever, but personally, I'm going into the Finale thinking we won't get this stuff, but I will be more than pleasantly surprised and excited if we do.

^ YES I was hoping for this, I hope Rosenbaum and Durance make some talk show appearances as well.

Tom looked so gorgeous in that suit!! He's such an awesome funny guy, it really sucks that he doesn't do interviews more often.

Anyways, I'm going to be optimistic here and say that he is going to fly and put on the suit. The way I see it, Tom and WB wouldn't be making such a fuss about not spoiling it and causing such hype if we were going to be left disappointed. Plus, all the promos have been hinting at it so much, especially the most recent one.

Tom Welling is trending worldwide on Twitter.

Also, interesting to note that Tom's been on Regis and Kelly twice before, and considering how he doesn't give many interviews or appearances, that's saying something.

The WB may have told TW not to reveal anything regarding the suit and flight. I'd be very disappointed if he didn't fly throughout the finale. If Clark doesn't fly and wear the suit, then I have to ask - What's the point of his journey? :super:

Well Tom has said all along the show is about Clark Kent, not Superman.

Now as a fan, I totally agree with you - I really want to see him in a Superman suit, onscreen for a decent amount of time - I've watched the show for 10 years and that's the climatic ending I've been waiting for.

But from Tom's point of view, it's obvious he considers the 'Superman' character to be another show entirely, and this one is solely about Clark Kent. So whilst I don't like the thought, it is entirely possible we'll get nothing more than an allusion to the suit - maybe Tom ripping the shirt open. It would be a bit of an anti-climax for most fans, but I wouldn't put it past them.

Let's not forget the hype and expectation before the Doomsday fight ...................... and yet they delivered us nothing more than a grapple really. Never underestimate how wrong they can get it.

If he wears the suit, I don't expect it to be more than a few minutes. I'm more concern about flight as he needs to master that before he wears the suit. I want to see him fly throughout the finale. The finale would have to see Clark's transformation into Superman, not just the wedding. There are lots of other factors as well such as Lex's return. :super:

Everytime I see that stupid tag line I think back to comicalliance's Booster review (commenting on how umpteen other characters have flown already):

"You will believe...some other dude can fly" :woot:

...But from Tom's point of view, it's obvious he considers the 'Superman' character to be another show entirely, and this one is solely about Clark Kent...

But what about that precludes Clark from flying as he is? Does he usually not fly until after donning the suit?

Just watched them Youtube videos of Welling signing autographs after Fallon ..................... with the lighting and angles on Smallville, and the fact that a lot of recurring cast members are quite tall themselves (Hartley is also 6"3 I think), you sometimes forget how big and broad a guy he is. He looks massive compared to everyone else in that room.

But what about that precludes Clark from flying as he is? Does he usually not fly until after donning the suit?

I'm not disagreeing with you man. He should fly already, I'm just saying it's painfully obvious that Welling considers this a Clark Kent show and he doesn't seem to equate flying or the suit with that. Whereas us fans just want the money shots, we've been waiting a long time to see them.

For sure. Wasn't questioning your statement, just TW's logic. More and more I think, "Dude, why'd you take the gig? You're anti-flight, anti-glasses, anti-Clark not always being in barrel-chested hero mode, no matter who he's confronting or how inappropriate it is..." (suddenly recalls how much TW must've gotten paid upon signing and how rare a steady job is for fledgling actors.) Never mind :)

He didn't want the gig initially for fear of being typecast, and only took it when he found out the "no tights / no flights" rule which meant he wouldn't spend much of every episode in a blue and red suit.

Nonetheless, I don't think it's too much to ask that he did some flying and suit-action for even 5 or 10 mins - it's been a decade after all! I've a gut feeling that Welling may simply feel silly in the suit and that's why he's been putting it off.

As far as being typecast goes, to be honest Welling will be known as Clark Kent now anyway after playing the role for so long - at least, until he gets involved in a new or bigger show. He's taking the right approach to counter that anyway, by getting himself involved in producing and directing, and aiming to get into films.

He took it when they actually let him read the script.

I think it has more to do with the way Hollywood and the audience looked at superheroes back then. Now, it's so common, the thought of being type cast or not liking the idea of having the role for almost 10 years, is not really looked down upon.

So, when he was first told about the show, he was under impression that he would be Superboy/young Superman. But, after checking out the script, he understood what it was all about.

You could describe the whole show as one big tease, so not seeing the suit or hardly seeing it (same with flying), would be fitting with the show.

watched fallon after coming home from thor(which was a good film by the way). The fallon interview was nice. Even though tom didnt really reveal anything. Which we know is due to wb wanting to keep things under wraps. But it was still nice to see tom promoting the show, and the little finale clip we got. Zing i am sure tom is going to wear the suit, its been talked about before he did. Whats the bloody point on having a suit which we know was on set during filming and not wearing it in the finale.
